Issue 3 of Liberty & Nation Just Around The Corner!

The first e-poster produced by Liberty & Nation. Issue 3 of the ‘Voice of the National Liberal Party’ will be out soon!

WE KNOW that it’s been a long time coming, but issue 3 of Liberty & NationL&N – is just around the corner!

We’d originally intended to kick off this year with our new issue, but planning for the forthcoming General Election has taken much of our time up. This is particularly so of the NLPs Manifesto. Here many activists worked tirelessly behind the scenes debating and producing this exciting publication – which will be available here in ‘bite size’ pieces fairly soon.

The content of L&N has also changed. Originally we anticipated looking at the constitutional crisis which has been provoked across the United Kingdom by the Scottish independence referendum.

However, it was thought that the NLPs forthcoming General Election Manifesto had dealt with this subject fairly neatly when it notes:

Devolution: We will work to create a federal United Kingdom with constituent parliaments for each nation (including England). We will support decentralisation to the most local practical level.

We are decentralists and believe in equality, popular sovereignty and national self-determination. We are very much in support of the individual against the might of the state. Thus we oppose centralism – which can be dogmatic, undemocratic and totalitarian in nature.”

With this is mind it was decided that L&N3 should focus on what makes the National Liberal Party different from the other parties. This includes the fact that we’re not interested in macho–posturing and gesture politics. It also stresses that “our

politics go way beyond ‘left’, ‘right’, capitalism, socialism, unionism and republicanism.”

Thus issue 3 of L&N acts as an introduction to National Liberalism and the NLP. The front page article – For National Freedom & Social Justice! – looks at National Liberal ideals such as Liberty, Democracy, Independence and Ecology. The back page looks at the NLP itself, providing a brief overview of the party.

This will be the first issue of Liberty & Nation that’ll be available in both pdf format and hard copy.

Thanks to a generous donation from a Scottish supporter, we have enough money to print around 5000 copies. However, we’d like to print many, many more. Can you help us spread the message of National Liberalism by making a donation? If so, here’s how:

• Make a direct donation to our bank account: Bank of Scotland – National Liberal Party – 12-11-03 – 06186181

• Pay via our web-site: http://nationalliberal.org/the-party-organisation/donate

NLP General Election Manifesto Launched!
.
The National Liberal Party, is the only political party that backs worldwide liberation with no ulterior agenda. They are truly free agents.

Jonathan H. Levy,
Chief Administrative Officer, Organization of Emerging African States (OEAS)
.
.
WITH the General Election just a matter of weeks away, the National Liberal Party launched its Manifesto at a fundraising lunch on Saturday March 21.

The Manifesto was launched in front of nearly 100 guests – many of them youths – at a venue in outer North West London.

Both of the NLPs candidates attended. Sockalingam ‘Yogi’ Yogalingam will be standing in the constituency of Ruislip, Northwood & Pinner and Jagdeesh Singh is standing in Southall, West London. Other members of the NLPs National Council were also in attendance.

The main thrust of the Manifesto centres around the universal principle of Self-Determination, which we believe will become an attractive holistic ideology. The NLP Manifesto itself highlights both National and Political Self-Determination.

For National Self-Determination, we call for decentralisation – a truly federal United Kingdom, instead of a centralised government where everything is decided at Westminster and a parliament for England.

Alligned to this is our intention to devolve appropriate power to the constituent nations of the United Kingdom and to work for the preservation of the United Kingdom’s independence within Europe.

As National Self-Determination is universal, we will naturally support the right of independence for all of the world’s stateless nations.

For Political Self-Determination, the NLP would introduce Direct Democracy via the use of Referendums, Proportional Representation, Voter Recall of elected politicians and a “None of the Above” (NOTA) box on the ballot papers.

We also advocate the decentralisation of all decision-making to the most local practical level.

The Manifesto also covers subjects such as Constitution & Political Reform, Foreign Policy, the Environment, the Economy, Immigration and much, much more.

We will be reproducing our General Election manifesto in ‘bite size’ pieces exclusively on this web-site in the very near future.

Shop Local This Easter! (2)

To get hold of a FREE pdf of the NLPs Shop Local This Easter leaflet, simply e-mail natliberal@aol.com

THE National Liberal Party is calling for everyone to Shop Local this Easter!

As we have noted many times, it is absolutely vital that local shops, small businesses and the self-employed not only survive, but actually prosper.

We believe that local shops are vital to the community. They provide good choice, reasonable prices and excellent customer services. They are the ‘glue’ that binds various communities together.

In our previous Shop Local This Easter! article, we suggested that “local shoppers” should stand in solidarity with their local shops, small businesses and the self-employed. Simply forget the multi-nationals and just spend an extra fiver in your local shop!”

We know that times are tough but we feel that everyone can put a fiver in the direction of their local shops. All you have to do is keep a fiver over from your ‘big shop’ and spend it locally.

Activists handing our 'Shop local at Easter' flyers to shops and shoppers whilst campaigning in Pinner

If you can’t afford £5, why not spend just £1 in your local shop? This can work two ways. Firstly, if you already use your local shop, just spend an extra £1 in it. Secondly, if you don’t usually do any shopping in your local shop, just drop in and buy something for £1.

We know that a couple of people doing this won’t make much of a difference, but imagine if 100 people spent £1 each in their local shop. That really would start to make an impact!

As we’ve said before in respect of local shops – use them or lose them!

You can also support your local shops, small businesses and the self-employed by simply following these four simple steps:

1. E-mail natliberal@aol.com and ask for FREE pdf copies of our This Easter … Put Local Shops FIRST! leaflet. Print a few out and distribute them around your area – and don’t forget to give your local shopkeeper a copy. Also, send the pdf of the leaflet to your friends, realtives and work colleagues and ask them to do the same.

2. Copy this article and put it on your Facebook page. Ask all of your Facebook friends to like and share it!

3. Copy the link to this article and put it on your Twitter account. Ask your followers to RT it.

4. Do exactly the same with our This Easter … Put Local Shops FIRST! e-poster which featured in our previous article here: http://nationalliberal.org/shop-local-this-easter-1

Shop Local This Easter! (1)

.

FOR OBVIOUS REASONS the National Liberal Party is putting a huge effort into its General Election campaign.  Indeed, regular readers will have already noticed an increased empthasis on the subjects of National and Political Self-Determination.

However, we’re still intent on promoting another of our core messages – and that is supporting local shops, small businesses and the self-employed.

So with Easter just around the corner, we’d like to remind everyone that they should Shop Local This Easter!

With this in mind, we’d like all members and supporters to help promote out the above Shop Local This Easter! e-poster.  To do this, simply copy the link to this brief article and viral it out via Social Media like Facebook and Twitter.

This is vitally important as all local shops are under threat.  High business rates, the recession, excessive red-tape and the growth of out-of-town superstores have forced many local shops to close down.

The NLP believes that local shops and facilities are really important – especially for the elderly, young mothers and those without cars.  For instance, they provide the setting for meeting neighbours and friends – thus providing the ‘glue’ that helps to maintain any community.

This Easter we’re asking local shoppers to stand in solidarity with their local shops, small businesses and the self-employed.  Simply forget the multi-nationals and just spend an extra fiver in your local shop!

A fiver less will never be noticed by the multi-nationals – but it’ll make all the difference to a corner shop.  Shop Local This Easter!

• KEEP your eyes peeled for our next Shop Local This Easter! article which’ll be coming soon.

Building English Voice

A WEEK or so ago we published an article Building Our Media Infrastructure which noted that the National Liberal Party has several key strategies. Our article – http://nationalliberal.org/building-our-media-infrastructure – looked at one of these objectives: building the infrastructure of an alternative mass media of news, information and entertainment.

We know that all of our publications generate enthusiasm and a positive response. However, we want to build a much larger audience for our media – therefore, we announced that we’d be featuring the lead articles from each of our publications to date. The idea is that when these articles appear, NLP members and supporters would viral them out via social media.

We also stated that (although the articles will be dated to some extent) we’d appreciate any comments, observations or suggestions – good bad or indifferent.

As we’re rapidly approaching St. George’s Day we thought that it would be appropriate to kick off with the lead article from issue 1 of English Voice. This is voice of the NLP in England.

We’re aware of two reviews of EV1 here http://nationalliberal.org/review-of-english-voice and here http://countercultureuk.com/tag/national-liberal-party/ However, we’d like to hear from any other folks who’d be willing to produce a review of it or who’d be able to produce articles for future issues. Similarly, we want to hear from anyone who can suggest subjects for future EV e-posters. Our first one was produced in support of the NHS – http://nationalliberal.org/english-voice-says-defend-the-nhs – but what else should EV be highlighting?

To submit your ideas, simply e-mail us natliberal@aol.com or look out for this article on the National Liberals Facebook site https://www.facebook.com/groups/52739504313/?fref=nf and have your say in the comments section.

Devo-Max For The English!

To get your FREE pdf copy of issue 1 of English Voice simply e-mail natliberal@aol.com

DISCRIMINATION! That’s the only way to describe the way the Westminster establishment treats England and the English people.

One of the main reasons England is discriminated against is because every other nation in Britain has some form of self-government. But England has none!

The Scottish Parliament sits at Holyrood, Ulster has Stormont and the Welsh have the National Assembly for Wales. The only people who don’t have a say in the running of their own country are the English!

The English are also discriminated against in Westminster itself!

This discrimination takes the form of the West Lothian Question. Here, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish MPs at Westminster can vote on policies that only affect England. Additionally, if non-English MPs become UK ministers they can push through controversial England-only measures, even as their devolved government rejects them.

This is an absolute outrage. It’s also blatant discrimination. The English are not asking to be treated differently – we just want to have the same democratic rights they do in Scotland, Ulster and Wales.

That’s why the National Liberal Party supports the idea of Devo-Max for the English.

Devo-Max is a form of ‘unity through diversity’. It acknowledges the various ties – historical, social, economic and family – between the different nations of Britain. Yet it allows each nation the freedom to run its own affairs. For instance, under Devo-Max, the English will be able to establish a parliament and government for England. This will have the power to raise and spend its own money.

Never again will the English be discriminated against via the Barnett Formula. This is a mechanism used by Her Majesty’s Treasury to automatically adjust the amounts of public expenditure allocated to Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales, to reflect changes in spending levels allocated to public services in England, or Great Britain.

In layman’s terms the Barnett Formula ensures that England gets a raw deal when it comes to the money spent on public services.

The National Liberal Party’s idea of Devo-Max means that Westminster will only look after ‘UK wide’ services like defence and foreign affairs. Devo-Max also means that we can redress the balance in the UK and in doing so transform Britain into a federation of free and equal nations.

The English are not asking to be treated as a special case. All we’re asking for is to be treated the same as the rest of Britain – in fact it’s looking likely that people will actually be able to vote for Devo-Max in the forthcoming Scottish referendum. That’s why English Voice says:

Devo-Max for the English!

General Election Update (2)

Both Jagdeesh Singh (left) and Sockalingam Yogalingam (right) stood for the NLP in last year’s European Election. On 7 May they will be asking for you vote in the General Election.

THE NATIONAL LIBERAL PARTY now has two confirmed candidates representing the party in the forthcoming General Election.

Sockalingam ‘Yogi’ Yogalingam will be standing in the constituency of Ruislip, Northwood & Pinner, which is situated in outer North West London.  And Jagdeesh Singh is standing in Southall, West London.

Both candidates will be promoting the issue of national and political self-determination.

Yogi and his front-line activists have already been out with a ‘warm up’ leaflet.  You can follow their progress via the NLPs Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/52739504313/?fref=nf

Although great progress has been made with door-to-door leafletting, more volunteers are needed to promote our message of SELF-DETERMINATION which is about daily life as UK citizens, deciding and participating in direct self-governance – RIGHTS, RESPONSIBILITY & DIRECT REPRESENTATION! Yogi also needs as many people as possible to donate to his campaign.

In Southall Jadeesh’s campaign will start in the very near future.  ‘Jag’ is a well-known campaigner for freedom.  He is especially calling for those members of various ‘captive nations’ who now live and work in Southall – ‘Sikhs, Tamils, Dalits, Kashmiris, Kurds, South Indians and more’ – to support him.

Again volunteers and donations for our Southall campaign will be much appreciated.  Keep your eyes peeled for more news about this soon! You can still help their campaigns by donating via http://nationalliberal.org/the-party-organisation/donate and note SY or JS as a reference, a cheque to the NLP, PO Box 4217, Hornchurch, Essex RM12 4PJ or pledge via natliberal@aol.com.

The NLPs Manifesto for the General Election is nearly ready and will be unveiled soon.  We’d like to extend our thanks to those activists who have worked behind the scenes to write the Manifesto.

As with our European Election Manifesto (which was published in April 2014) we will be reproducing our General Election manifesto in ‘bite size’ pieces.  We hope that this will encourage debate and feedback – good, bad or indifferent – on our ideas.
