National Liberal Debate 15 – What Action Should National Liberals Take At The Polling Stations?

The NLP is standing two candidates – in Ruislip, Northwood & Pinner and Southall - in the forthcoming General Election. Not everyone will be able to vote for them. So what should National Liberals do on polling day?

THE MANY problems faced by Britain – whether economic or social – are not going to be solved by screaming and shouting. Thus, the National Liberal Party is not interested in ‘hitting the headlines’ using the tired formula of macho–posturing and gesture politics. These problems will only be overcome by a combination of careful thought and action.

This means that we favour informed and reasoned debate. Here we concentrate on arguments, points of view and facts. We are not interested in personalities, prejudice or promoting self-interest.

The National Liberal Party seeks to build an organisation that encourages free speech and debate. To do this, we also attempt to take into consideration as many views as is possible in open debate. Thus, members and supporters are always encouraged to have their say.

We’re also interested in encouraging people to develop their debating skills. That’s why the NLP has introduced a new series of articles called Have Your Say! Whilst each subject will be announced on this web-site, they’ll be conducted in full on the National Liberals Facebook site, which can be found here:

https://www.facebook.com/groups/52739504313/

Before we start this debate we’d like to remind folks of our ground rules:

  • First of all, say what you think – but think what you say.

  • Secondly, just debate the issue(s) raised. There should be no personal attacks.

  • As previously noted, we’re simply not interested in personalities.

  • Please note that we may ask selected members and supporters to play ‘devil’s advocate’. Hopefully, this’ll help sharpen the debating skills of all involved!

  • Finally, it should be remembered that all of the views expressed in Have Your Say! are personal and should not be taken to be the official view of the NLP itself.

As everyone will know by now, the General Election will be held early next month. Here the entire British electorate – currently nearly 46,000,000 – can vote for 650 Memebers of Parliament who will represent them (potentially) for the next five years.

This year the National Liberal Party has two candidates. Sockalingam ‘Yogi’ Yogalingam will be standing in the constituency of Ruislip, Northwood & Pinner, which is situated in outer North West London.  And Jagdeesh Singh is standing in Southall, West London.

If you’re lucky enough to live in either one of these areas, you can vote for them. But that still leaves 648 constituencies where you can’t vote for NLP candidates who’re standing for National Freedom and Social Justice.

Therefore, our question is simple – what action should National Liberals take at the polling stations?

National Liberal Party 2015 General Election Manifesto – Section 3 – Foreign Policy

Unlike Labour and the Tories, we have no interest in supporting the US war machine. Britain shouldn’t be used as Washington's unsinkable US aircraft carrier.

WELCOME to the third in our series of ‘bite size’ articles looking at the National Liberal Party’s 2015 General Election Manifesto.

As National Liberals and Self-Determinists, it goes without saying that we’re completely opposed to all forms of imperialism. Thus, we have no interest in running around on the coat-tails of the US war machine. Indeed, we believe that many of the world’s problems can be traced to the globalist adventures of the self-appointed ‘world’s police force’ – the US – and its Deputy Dawg – the UK. Instead, we will adopt a position of armed neutrality.

As always, the NLP wishes to encourage debate and feedback – good, bad or indifferent. To let us know what you think of our ideas relating to Political Self-Determination, simply go to our Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/groups/52739504313/ and look out for this article – simply post your views in the comments section.

.

Foreign Policy

Self-Determination

• We support self-determination for all nations and cultures across the world.

We consider it our duty to support oppressed minorities throughout the world. This would be done via economic, cultural and political means.

Economic Sanctions

• We will apply sanctions against those states that routinely oppress dissent, especially of self-determinists.

Sanctions may range in scale from travel restrictions being placed on senior politicians of oppressive regimes to a total trade block.

European Union

• We will renegotiate a meaningful reform of our membershipin the EU, and thereafter conduct a referendum on membership. While we remain in the EU, we will fight for UK interests within the EU parliament.

We oppose the way the EU seems to be heading – effectively a strong centralised state controlling all of human behaviour, social, political, economic. We prefer a ‘looser’ arrangement whereby nation states can ‘opt in’ or ‘opt out’ of various Europe-wide schemes.

Military Stance

• We will adopt a position of armed neutrality, and resist becoming embroiled in external wars.

We have already wasted too many lives fighting in wars that are not our concern. Our armed forces should be protecting our country’s borders, not crossing over into another’s.

Nuclear Deterrent

• We will conduct a referendum on whether to renew or replaceTrident, our nuclear deterrent.

We recognise that Trident relies on the tacit agreement of the USA for it to function.

There is considerable disagreement over what form our nuclear deterrent, if any, should take. We would put this forward for a national debate and referendum.

Overseas Aid

• We will re-focus overseas aid to developing small businessesand co-ops to reduce welfare dependency and poverty and demand government reforms.

Allegations that some foreign aid doesn’t reach its intended targets concerns us. We favour working directly with those aid workers ‘on the ground’ so that money could be spent where it is needed most.

Campaign Report No. 1

.

The following text was our Rusilip, Northwood & Pinner candidate Sockalingam Yogalingam’s statement to the local press. He has also taken part in an Election husting’s meeting with other candidates, spoken at various local temples and given interviews to a number of Community medias. ‘Team Yogi’ has also been busy distributing flyers throughout the area. Good luck Yogi!

.

You too can help his campaign by making a donation today via http://nationalliberal.org/the-party-organisation/donate (note General Election Campaign as a reference), or by cheque to NLP, c/o PO Box 4217, Hornchurch RM12 4PY

.

Five reasons Sockalingam Yogalingam wants your vote in Ruislip, Northwood and Pinner for the National Liberal Party

1) My name is Sockalingam Yogalingam but everyone calls me Yogi. I am 47, married with children and an estate agent. I originally came from Sri Lanka thirty years ago to escape persecution and I am eternally grateful for Britain for giving me a refuge in my time of need. I am now standing to be an MP to help give something back to my adopted country.

2) Many of you will be fed up with career politicians claiming to act in our best interests but really acting for themselves. It is not surprising that many people do not even bother to vote. Instead, we need MPs who actually listen to us and then act on our behalf rather than someone else’s.

3) Furthermore, for too long politicians have been out of touch with the views of the people. In contrast, the National Liberal Party (NOT the Liberal Democrats) believes in the principle of self-determination, whereby the people, not politicians, should decide their own future. Ideally our country’s most important issues, such as the EU, nuclear power, or an English parliament, should be decided by a national vote in a referendum.

4) In fact, many changes are required to make our country a safe and pleasant place in which to live. For example, no more overseas military adventures, a massive investment in the construction industry using local apprenticeships, a proper living wage, electoral reform, and a state bank offering interest-free loans.

5) I am aware this is a safe Conservative seat and that is not likely to change after May 7. However, you still have an opportunity to send Westminster a message for change. By voting for me that message says you don’t want to be listened to just at election time but ALL of the time! Vote for that change.

National Liberal Party 2015 General Election Manifesto – Section 2 – Constitution & Political Reform

WITH THE General Election in full swing, the National Liberal Party continues to promote its ideals of National and Political Self-Determination.

This is the second in a mini-series of ‘bite size’ articles looking at our Manifesto. It looks at Political Self-Determination. Here real political power will be taken away from vested interests – such as massive corporations, the media and the financial elite – and handed back to the people.

Given that a nation is a ‘family of families’ it follows that those who make up the family – the people themselves – have a real say in the running of the nation.

CONSTITUTION & POLITICAL REFORM

.

Political Self-Determination will take power away from massive corporations, the media and the financial elite and handed back to the people.

NOTA (“none of the above”)

• We will implement a NOTA option on election ballots.

NOTA (“none of the above”) is the idea that a voter can cast their vote to reject all candidates, potentially triggering a by-election at a later date if NOTA votes beat the leading “live” candidate. This will organically send a message to candidates that they need to respond to voter interests rather than party interests (or worse, lobbyist interests). It will result, over time, in a higher-quality selection of candidates. Having candidates who have a vested interest in responding to voter interests can only be good for representative democracy!

Government by Referendum

• Major national decisions will be decided by public debate and referendum.

We plan to make consultations with the public about major decisions a routine part of the governmental process. Popular and ongoing participation is essential to a healthy democracy.

Proportional Representation

• We are committed to establishing Proportional Representation.

The current “First Past The Post” system of voting is totally undemocratic. It is possible for a party to get elected with a minority of the overall votes cast! This disenfranchises the majority of voters.

Proportional Representation (PR) is more democratic in that it actually reflects real voting patterns. Voters are able to elect representatives in proportion to their number. Under PR, all votes count, thus giving voters greater motivation to become involved in the decision making process.

Voter Recall

• We are committed to establishing a means by which the people of a constituency can initiate the recall of their representatives in Parliament (“Voter Recall”).

We want a “strong” voter recall that is initiated and confirmed exclusively by the public. The voters should be able to remove their MP for any reason, or for no reason. It should not be possible for MPs, who merely represent the voters, to veto a valid voter recall petition.

Devolution

• We will work to create a federal United Kingdom withconstituent parliaments for each nation (including England). We will support decentralisation to the most local practical level.

We are decentralists and believe in equality, popular sovereignty and national self-determination. We are very much in support of the individual against the might of the state. Thus we oppose centralism – which can be dogmatic, undemocratic and totalitarian in nature.

Rights and Constitution

• The National Liberal Party will institute a formal constitution and bill of rights.

There will be a civil rights watchdog to protect the people’s ability to make use of those rights.

Jagdeesh Says … This Is Blatant Institutionalised Discrimination!

Jagdeesh Singh believes that the Establishment has a policy of institutionalised discrimination against Sikhs.

JAGDEESH SINGH – the National Liberal Party candidate for Ealing Southall – has condemned a recent statement and proposal by Conservative Home Secretary, Theresa May.

May suggested that anti- Muslim hate crimes would be given their own category, as is currently the way with anti-Semitic attacks. However, Mr Singh believes her statement and proposal represent a blatant form of institutionalised discrimination.

Jagdeesh was reacting to Home Secretary Teresa May’s speech at a Foundation for Peace event held earlier this month in London. Here, and with one eye on the forthcoming general election, she said: “A Conservative government would require the police to be recording Muslim hate crime, anti-Muslim incidents, as well as anti-Semitic incidents.”

The National Liberal Party echoes Mr. Singh’s views. We believe that either we all have rights – or none of have rights.

As a proud Sikh, Mr Singh has expressed revulsion at the British government not recognising “hate crimes against Sikhs.”

Although hate crimes against Muslims will be given special importance on a par with hate crimes against Jews, “there’s absolutely no recognition for hate crimes against Sikhs!”

Jagdeesh continued:

“Sikhs have suffered serious to intermittent hate crimes following 9-11. A Sikh was severely attacked in Noth Wales in January 2015. It received zero mainstream media attention and no response from the Tory/Lib-Dem coalition government, nor Labour.”

Mr Singh, 44, also speaks from bitter personal experience. In September 2004 – in Coventry – he was the victim of a vicious attack.

Jagdeesh believes that this non-recognition of attacks on Sikhs is a form of “enduring discrimination, from top down” and is “morally criminal.”

“Attacking a Sikh is clearly not as serious as attacking a Jew or Muslim.”

We believe that Jagdeesh is right here. We are opposed to any ‘hierarchy of suffering.’ If we are to collect information relating to various attacks, this information must include everything that – statistically – can be of use. This includes race, ethnicity, nationality, sexual orientation and religion.

Jagdeesh correctly points out that Sikhs will now effectively become ‘Third-Class Victims.

“Both Labour and Tories have ignored and neglected Sikhs who are one of Britain’s most positively contributing and enhancing communities. It is a powerful demonstration to Sikhs how unrecognised and undervalued they are by these two politically domineering parties, who like to pick and choose rather than be equal and consistent.”

We also note that Teresa May doesn’t seem to be bothered about attacks on Christians, Pagans or Athesits. Why not? Are they merely viewed as ‘Fourth, Fifth and Sixth-Class Victims?’

By only ‘recognising’ attacks on Jews and Muslims, the Establishment is guilty of promoting a blatent policy of institutional discrimination. No single faith or group should be given special treatment. ALL hate crimes against ALL faiths and groups should be recorded.

May’s proposal is blatent discrimination in favour of one group.

National Liberal Party 2015 General Election Manifesto – Section 1
THE NATIONAL LIBERAL PARTY launched its 2015 General Election Manifesto towards the end of last month. A packed meeting – attended by our candidates Sockalingam ‘Yogi’ Yogalingam and Jagdeesh Singh – heard various speakers outline the NLPs ideals of National Freedom and Social Justice.

At the core of our Manifesto is a call for Self-Determination. Our view is that Self-Determination should be both a simple basic human right for everyone and a building block for every nation. Thus the NLP argues in favour of both National and Political Self-Determination.

Our Manifesto consists of an introduction – which gives an overview of the concept of Self-Determination – followed by sections on the likes of Constitution & Political Reform, Foreign Policy, the Environment, Economy and so on.

In order to encourage debate and feedback – good, bad or indifferent – on our General Election Manifesto, we’re also reproducing it in ‘bite size’ pieces. You can find the first section below. If you wish to join the debate itself, simply go to our Facebook page here https://www.facebook.com/groups/52739504313/ and look out for this article – simply post your views in the comments section.

.

The NLPs General Election Manifesto calls for National and Political Self- Determination.

The National Liberal Party believes in the universal principle of Self-Determination, both National and Political, which is essentially about giving people control of their affairs – locally, regionally and nationally.  Government for the benefit of the people, by the people!

Firstly, National Self-Determination.  This includes the following key points:

• We will work to make a truly federal United Kingdom, instead of a centralised government where everything is decided at Westminster.

• We will create a parliament for England.

• We will support the right of independence for all the world’s stateless nations.

• We will work for the preservation of the United Kingdom’s independence within Europe.

• We will devolve appropriate power to the constituent nations of the United Kingdom.

Secondly, Poltical Self-Determination.  This includes the following key points:

• Direct Democracy through the use of Referendums.

• Proportional Representation.

• Voter Recall of elected politicians.

• A “None of the Above” (NOTA) box on the ballot papers.

• Decentralise all decision-making to the most practical level.
