The real face of the Tory Party

TWO RECENT events have served to illustrate the true nature of the Tory Party.

Forget David Cameron’s talk of a ‘touchy-feely’ compassionate Conservative Party. All his talk of being an ‘ordinary bloke’ and feeling ‘your pain’ is absolute rubbish. At heart the Tories are still completely out-of-touch with the ordinary British people – and indeed they hold most of us in absolute contempt.

Lord Young

First of all, Lord Young, Cameron’s enterprise adviser – in an interview with the Daily Telegraph – queried the “so-called recession”.

He also dismissed the 100,000 job cuts expected each year in the public sector as being “within the margin of error” in the context of a 30 million-strong workforce and said that complaints about spending cuts came from “people who think they have a right for the state to support them”.

Howard Flight

This is all fine and dandy for Lord Young. He has no employment or money worries as he’s a multi-millionaire. Let him explain his view that Britons had “never had it so good” to the thousands of workers who’ll be loosing their jobs because of Con-Dem spending cuts!

No sooner had Lord Young resigned his position than another Tory put his foot in it!

Here, new Conservative peer Howard Flight attacked Government welfare cuts which he suggested would encourage the poor to ‘breed’ and have more children. Thus – in his interview with the London Evening Standard – he reduced most Britons to the status of cattle or sheep.

His use of such contemptible language says much more about him – and the real core views and values of the Tory Party – than poorer folks who do have children.

This then is the real face of the Tory Party. Let’s hope that ordinary British working folks remind them of this the next time they come around asking for votes!

Shop Locally This Christmas!

shoplocal

YES it’s that time of year again – Christmas is coming! But in your haste to do the shopping, don’t forget the local shops and businesses in your area. Give them an early Christmas present by shopping locally today.

The National Liberal Party knows that times are hard and price considerations are obviously very important, but many small shops depend on their Christmas trade to see them through much of the following year. At present, many shopkeepers are hit hard by the recession – caused by the credit crunch – high interest rates and the criminal bank debt-system.

The shopkeeper, as a self-employed businessman or woman, plays a vital role in the local economy. (And don’t forget that these small shops collectively employ hundreds of thousands of workers throughout the length and breadth of Britain). Local shops are not only important for the elderly and young mothers, but are part of the glue that helps to maintain community spirit – a place to bump into friends, neighbours and relatives.

If we don’t support our local shops and businesses today, we may loose them forever. Then people will have no other choice to travel directly into the nearest city or town centre for the smallest of items. This may be ok if you have your own transport and are fit and healthy. However, the elderly or young mothers wouldn’t really look forward to beating a path through the massive Saturday shopping crowds found in our large towns and cities.

The message is clear. For the community spirit to survive and prosper, we must give local shops as much trade as possible. The National Liberal Party says support your local shops, shopkeepers and shop workers. Shop locally this Christmas!

Small Is Beautiful

HUNDREDS of residents in Milton Keynes – in Buckinghamshire – want to put the idea of ‘small is beautiful’ into practice. To do this they wish to break away from a giant parish to form their own parish and run it as a smaller rural community.

The residents live in around 400 homes – based in Woughton on the Green, Woughton Park and Passmore. At the moment they are part of the massive Woughton parish (which also includes Netherfield, Coffee Hall, Tinkers Bridge and Beanhill) but 98% of them wish to decentralize.

Explaining the idea behind the move, Small Is Beautiful campaigner John Baker noted:

“Those of us living in Woughton and Passmore get left out.

“We have a village green that’s hardly used for community events, a village hall that’s under-used and an allotment society that would like to be part of the community.

“We would like to run our own parish and our own affairs as a small rural community.

“The current parish boundary is too big. For us it is a case of small would be beautiful.”

To build their case for decentalisation, Small Is Beautiful campaigners knocked on every single door in Woughton on the Green, Woughton Park and Passmore. They discovered that 98 per cent of people wanted a separate parish.

A carefully-prepared a detailed submission was then drawn up and put before Milton Keynes Council Parish Council Review Group. Earlier this month the request was put to the vote at a full council meeting on Tuesday. It was flatly refused.

Small Is Beautiful campaigners have claimed that this refusal was due to Labour and Lib Dem internal politics.

However, they have refused to give up on their desire to form a smaller parish. They have vowed to keep on campaigning to promote the democratic wish of the residents. Watch this space!

‘Student Fees’ – National Liberal Party Petition

BROKEN PROMISES!

Some of us remember Nick Cleggs election broadcast May 2010 bemoaning politicians long list of broken promises and promising (sic) to be different!

Indeed the first frame on the broadcast was Labour’s broken promise of ‘No Student Tuition Fees’. He said “It’s time for them to be kept”. The Liberal Democrat’s made lots of promises but on student fees Clegg and many other MPs of his party actually signed a pledge, presumably because it might guarantee them even more student votes. How stupid those voters must feel now and how ashamed should Nick Clegg be!

The MP scandal damaged their reputation to the core. Clegg’s broken promise to put up student fees will also damage his party’s reputation to the core. That wouldn’t be too bad but all those who regard themselves as ‘liberals’ may be justifiably outraged by the smear he puts on them all.

His excuse, that being in a coalition requires compromise in the interests of proposed cuts in general, evaporates when his ‘partner in crime’ PM David Cameron announced in China that such an increase for English students will keep fees lower for foreign students!

It is a shame the promised (sic) law on recalling MPs who have broken promises is not yet in place. Guess who would be the first one in a long queue of shame!

Sign the petition calling on Nick Clegg to honour his promise against any increase in student fees. It is still not too late! (his coalition partners were allowed to vote against the AV Referendum so why not a similar vote of conscience?).

People’s Alliance

PEOPLE’S ALLIANCE (UK) – TIME FOR ‘LIBERAL’ PATRIOTS TO WORK TOGETHER!

Two small but ambitious political parties in the United Kingdom have launched on Armistice Day (11th November) a voluntary organisation known as the People’s Alliance (UK) to help co-ordinate joint campaigning initiatives. Remembrance Day honours the sacrifice countless thousands of Britons made in the name of both Country & the liberty of small nations. They pay homage to that noble sacrifice.

Both founding parties – The National Liberal Party and the United People’s Party – believe in fusing liberal and patriotic ideas in the best interests of all those in Britain. Their first joint national campaign will be announced shortly. Other parties and Independents will be invited to join in due course. Below is a statement on behalf of both organisations.

“The People’s Alliance (UK) is an co-operative body which aims to encourage all ‘centrist’ and ‘inclusive’ minor parties in Britain, who strongly believe that some real change is needed in this country, to work together on common issues. We are open to all those that fit this criteria.

The parties involved may not agree on all issues and solutions but are united in a common cause – the promotion of the nation’s values and the use of common sense politics and rational debate to solve the many issues that have struck Britain and the British economy.

Members of the PA (UK) coalition are not surrendering their values or identities, but agree to promote those values referred to above in a spirit of co-operation. We are determined to put our best foot forward and work together for a cause that we all stand firmly in favour of.

United, we can, and will, break the mainstream parties grip on this country and be one step closer to creating a government of the people, for the people.”

National Liberal Party (NLP) www.nationalliberal.org
The National Liberals are a (national) Liberal party in the UK that believes that the personal liberty of a nation’s citizens is paramount whilst accepting that this freedom is best preserved within the framework of a democratic nation state. A National Liberal therefore views democracy and patriotism as two sides of the same coin. They call this ‘National Liberalism’. It presently believes that personal liberties are under threat from a Big Brother state and Independence by interfering bureaucracies like the EU.

United Peoples Party (UPP) www.unitedpeoplesparty.org.uk
The United People’s Party is a political party in the UK that works to combine the ideals of nationalism with those of equality and tolerance, fighting for the freedoms of the individual and promoting national unity. This is a party for all the people of Britain, regardless of faith, colour, sexuality, disability or origin. Together, united under one banner, we will change this country for the better.

Join the NLP’s Facebook Page

LEADING National Liberal Party member Graham Williamson has called for people with a particular interest in national and personal freedom to become a friend of the NLP on its Facebook Page(s).

He said that as a social networking site, Facebook represented a great way for members and supporters to keep in touch both with the NLP itself and each other.

“Facebook Friends of the National Liberal Party can post messages on our Wall, look at our Photos page or take part in various discussions.”

The Facebook Pages are a very new addition to the main web-site, so not many people are aware of them. Although we prefer quality over quantity, we do want to increase the number of people following us. So why not check out our pages. There is a fan page for the NLP and a FB Group (the National Liberals) to discuss the philosophy of National Liberalism too.

Mr. Williamson also commentated on the formation of the new national People’s Alliance (UK):

“These are exciting times for those of us who believe in fusing liberal and patriotic ideas in the best interests of all those in Britain. Indeed, this Armistice Day (11th November) will see the launch of the People’s Alliance (UK) – a voluntary organisation that will help Liberal Patriots co-ordinate joint campaigning initiatives.

The launch date is very fitting indeed, as Remembrance Day honours the sacrifice countless thousands of Britons made in the name of both country and the liberty of small nations. The People’s Alliance (UK) will pay homage to that noble sacrifice.

The founding parties – the National Liberal Party and the United People’s Party – will invite other sensible and inclusive parties plus Independents to join the PA (UK) in due course.”

He concluded by noting that the PA (UK) would promote the nation’s values and the use of common sense politics and rational debate to solve the many issues that have struck Britain and the British economy.
