From The Liberty Wall – English Green Debate (1) – How Do We Square The Circle?

Duke of Buccleuch is Britain's biggest landowner.

THREE YEARS ago the Daily Mail carried an article (see here: http://www.facebook.com/l.php?u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.dailymail.co.uk) which looked at a report by Country Life Magazine.

The findings of Who Owns Britain?– thought to be based on the most extensive research since 1872 – were startling.

Amazingly, just 36,000 people – only 0.6 per cent of the population – own 50 per cent of Britain’s rural land.  Those who own massive swathes of land include the Duke of Buccleuch, Prince Charles, the Duke of Westminster and the Duke of Northumberland.

These figures relate to Britain as a whole, but much of their land is in England.
English Green would like to reduce England’s reliance on imported goods – especially food.   Indeed, we would like to see England as self-sufficient as possible.   However, is this feasible when so much land is in private hands?
The question for English Green is how do we square this circle?
The debate will be held on the English Green facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/167522623276444/

From The Liberty Wall – Nations without States – What Must Be Done (5)
WHAT MUST BE DONE (5): Welcome to issue 5 of What Must Be Done, the publically-available organising bulletin of Nations without States. NwS supporters are asked to read – and more importantly – act upon the instructions detailed below:

FOURTH WORLD REVIEW – ISSUE 155 – PDF COPY. The latest issue of Fourth World Review (4WR) is now out. It includes fairly extensive coverage of Nations without States. The five-page article – Tradition & Revolution – opens by posing the question “So what then, is NwS? Why is it so different from any other group promoting self-determination? And what strategy will it employ to achieve its aims?”

(The cover of this issue also relates to “the self-determinist pressure group, Nations without States.” Its artwork “prominently features a black flag, a symbol which NwS has used previously to represent those activists and innocent civilians who have been – and who still are being – killed, ‘disappeared’ or tortured by various oppressive regimes around the world. Like NwS, we use this artwork as a mark of respect to both honour their memory and mourn their loss.”)

Like ourselves, 4WR is opposed to Empires and Superstates and calls for the establishment of small, rooted nations – something that can be summed by the 4WR slogan, ‘Small is Beautiful!’

4WR also appears to be impressed with our determination, work rate and activism. It is also very enthuastic about our “strategy of building counter-power (‘Revolution’)” and our willingness to engage “with elements of the establishment (‘Tradition’) in an effort to advance self-determination for all nations and peoples.” However, what really excites 4WR is our focus on building different forms of counterpower, something which it has long advocated.

What Must Be Done urges all NwS supporters to get hold of issue 155 of 4WR. A FREE pdf copy is available from papworthjohn@yahoo.co.uk

NATION – ISSUE 2. There are a few copies of issue 1 of Nation – the Newsletter of Nations without States – still available. However stocks are very low and are moving fast. This issue urges self-determinists to unite and displays the flags of 30 nations who feel that they are being oppressed in one way or another.

We would encourage everyone to get hold of these remaining copies and distribute them out to fellow self-determinists either privately or publically at various demonstrations and meetings. To get hold of your copy/copies simply send a Private Message to Graham Williamson via Facebook or e-mail Nations without States: nationswstates@aol.co.uk

NATIONAL FLAGS. Would everyone send their national flag to Nations without States, c/o PO Box 4217, Hornchurch, Essex RM12 4PJ, England, UK. We wish to display them at various demonstrations and meetings. Let the rest of the world know that you exist! Ideally they should be around 5′ x 3′ (152cm x 91cm) and made out of material. Send to Nations without States, c/o PO Box 4217, Hornchurch, Essex RM12 4PJ, England, United Kingdom.

From The Liberty Wall – St. George’s Committee Debate (1) – How Do We Promote English History, Heritage, Traditions, Identity & Culture?
HARDLY a day goes by without coming across a debate that revolves around the subject of England and what it means to be English.

There still seems to be a lot of confusion between England/Britain and English/British. Additionally, many English have the tendency – in defining themselves – to compare themselves to folks from other nations. Sadly, they tend to describe their culture by referring, condescendingly, to other cultures.

For the St. George’s Committee to achieve its aims we believe that we must educate Englishmen and women. But given the confusion over English identity (not to mention the continual copying of popular cultural norms whereby ‘celebs’ who shout the loudest think that they’ve ‘won’ an argument) how do go about this process of education? Indeed, how do we promote English history, heritage, traditions, identity & Culture?

The debate will be held on the St. George’s Committee facebook page https://www.facebook.com/stgeorgescommittee?fref=ts

From The Liberty Wall – 4WR – Issue 155 Out Now!
IN MARCH 1984 John Papworth, Lord Beaumont of Whitley, Professor Leopold Kolir, John Seymour and Edward Goldsmith issued The General Declaration Of The Fourth World. It was a radical and pioneering “attempt to define the basic causes of the global crisis of the Twentieth Century, and with some positive proposals indicating what may be done to resolve it.”

1984 also saw the production of the first issue of Fourth World Review (4WR) which sought to highlight the dangers of gigantism in all spheres of human activity. As its alternative 4WR believed in the ideal summed up in the slogan, ‘Small is Beautiful!’

Describing the Fourth World, it noted:

The Fourth World is the world of the human scale. It is a world in which authority for all decisions stems from the , base unit of society the village. We now know that the presumed authority of the individual voter to exercise effective control over giant centralised governments is far too small in relation to the whole. It is the local neighbourhood, , whether urban or rural, which is the true locus of citizen concern and which is the true locus of citizen power. There must be some large structures in society, but these need to be \ controlled and ordained by village councils, otherwise the giant central government rides roughshod over the liberties of private citizens, and envelops them in an overmighty bureaucratic complex.

All power to the Village!”

Nearly 30 years on from that first issue we’re glad to say that 4WR is still going strong – indeed, issue 155 has just been issued! And this latest issue looks at both Libertarianism and Self-Determination.

The subject of Libertarianism is covered in two interviews conducted by 4WR joint-Editor, Wayne John Sturgeon. Those interviewed are Sean Gabb, Director of the London-based Libertarian Alliance (LA) and Professor Hillel Steiner of the University of Manchester. It’s probably no exaggeration to say that Mr. Gabb is Britain’s most high-profile (and thus well-known) ‘orthodox’ libertarian. Professor Steiner, on the other hand, is one of the leading advocates of ‘Left-Libertarianism.’

Self-Determination is the subject of a major feature in 4WR. It looks at the new self-determinist pressure group, Nations without States. 4WR appears to be very impressed with their determination, work rate, activism and dual strategy of working on the streets and in the corridors of power. Indeed, it describes this dual strategy as one of Tradition & Revolution.

Issue 155 of 4WR also includes editorials and some excellent reviews. If you’re a free thinker and political non-conformist you’ll want to read this copy. To get hold of it, simply e-mail papworthjohn@yahoo.co.uk and ask for your FREE pdf and July Supporters Bulletin.

From The Liberty Wall – Total Democracy – NOTA Progress!

THE NATIONAL LIBERAL PARTY has always supported the concept of cross-party co-operation. For centrist parties (whether of the left or right), that which unites us is stronger than those (policies) which divide us. Since we do not believe that any single party can unite the ‘opposition’ to our political system or the ruling three parties, a ‘broad church’ cooperative alliance (not a merger but cross-party campaigning), that appeals across the political (centrist) and social spectrum, just might.
Four founding parties (Democratic Reform Party, People’s Democratic Party, Popular Alliance and the NLP) came together at the end of 2012 to launch Total Democracy, a campaigning body that seeks to maximise our collective strength to the benefit of its members. As the opening press release said, ”We are a co-operation of interested groups who work together on specific campaigns, you opt into the ones that match your values and ignore the ones that don’t.’
Total Democracy hopes to add similar parties, groups and Independents in due course. Indeed it would welcome any and all suggestions of who to include in its ‘broad church’ cooperative alliance.

The first campaign to be run by TD is known as None of the Above (NOTA). NOTA is an attempt (in light of the low turn-outs for the November 2012 police commissioner elections and numerous by-elections since) to have a ‘None of the Above’ option included on the ballot paper. Hopefully, this’ll encourage more people to engage with the political process – even if it’s only to be able register their lack of trust and faith in none of main parties!
In the meantime, the None Of The Above (NOTA) campaign has made some progress. TD has identified some other group(s) who are promoting the issue. For instance, see https://www.facebook.com/groups/164424433706365/ This particular group has been contacted with a view to working together. We hope to bring you further news in due course.
There is also a (non-governmental) petition that – as this article is being written – is close to breaking the 1,000 barrier. TD would ask that as many people as possible sign and promote it at http://you.38degrees.org.uk/petitions/inclusion-of-an-official-none-of-the-above-option-for-all-uk-elections-2

Additionally, the Electoral Reform Society has also invited the public to discuss the merit’s of introducing NOTA into our electoral system. Check it out at and express your support at http://www.electoral-reform.org.uk/blog/would-you-back-none-of-the-above

As we noted earlier, the NLP was one of TDs founding parties. We feel that the foundation of Total Democracy is just the start of cooperative politics and the beginning of a ‘long march’ to change the face of British politics. In reality it is the only alternative strategy in town.

From The Liberty Wall – Nations without States Debate (1) – Why Do Our Oppressors Hate The Concept Of Self-Determination?

A typical Tamil protest calling for the boycott of the Sri Lankan cricket team.

TOWARDS the middle of June, Sinhalese supporters of the Sri Lankan cricket team attacked Tamils outside the Oval Cricket Ground in South London. Why?

The Tamils in London were peacefully protesting against the atrocities committed by the Sri Lankan military against their fellow Tamils. They were simply distributing leaflets, flying their flags and displaying banners.

Yet they faced intimidation and were both verbally and physically attacked. One of those attacked was Sockalingam Yogalingam, a member of the Nations without States (NwS) Organising Committee.

All self-determinists want is (literally) a small place on this earth to call their own. They simply want to live peacefully with their own folk – and others – in accordance with their customs, traditions and way of life.

However, as we’ve noted above, the opponents of self-determination can’t even debate in a civil and rational manner. They can only resort to violence.

With this in mind, this first NwS debate asks why do our oppressors hate the concept of self-determination? Following on from this, what is the mind set of these people and just what makes them tick? Are they natural-born bullies or are they secretly very insecure – and have to hide this insecurity by oppressing others? Or is there something deep within their psyche that makes them act this way?

The debate will be held on the Nations without States facebook page https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/184919468292372/
