From The Liberty Wall – Nations without States – Fight For Freedom!

THE ORGANISING COMMITTEE of Nations without States – NwS – hopes to produce new issues of both Freedom and Nation in the very near future. Freedom is the Street Paper of Nations without States – whilst Nation is the Newsletter of Nations without States. Both are aimed at totally different markets. We’ll examine the role of Nation in a future article. Here we just wish to concentrate on Freedom.

Freedom acts as our ‘Red Top’ paper. Essentially it’s a populist agitprop street paper, which’ll be used as a regular leaflet. It’s aimed at those who read the Star, Mirror and Sun. It features screaming – and sometimes provocative – headlines, graphics, photographs and straightforward reporting. The idea behind Freedom is to provide a simple introduction to the concept of self-determination.

It’s our intention that Freedom – with its no-nonsense and straight-to-the-point style – will initially grab the attention of its target audience. It then has to wean its target audience away from the X Factor, Hello! and various soaps. Then the long process of education must begin.

With this in mind, NwS invites supporters to read the Fight For Freedom! article below. This is the shorter of two versions that have been used as a simple introduction to NwS and the idea of Self-Determination in Freedom.

The NwS Organising Committee wishes to know if there are any ways that it can be improved? Remember the idea behind Freedom is to alert people to the idea of Self-Determination. NwS can then educate and recruit these people. The idea here is to produce quality from quantity and not vice-versa. NwS must first have a large quantity base from which to pluck its quality personnel.

To submit your ideas simply look out for this article when it appears on the Nations without States Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/184919468292372/ and have your say in the comments section.

Fight For Freedom!

Issue 1 – 4 of Freedom, the Street paper of Nations without States. Issue 5 will be out soon. Aimed at readers of the Sun, Star and Mirror, the idea behind Freedom is to provide a simple introduction to the concept of Self-Determination.

FREEDOM is the street paper of Nations without States. Nations without States – NwS – is a Facebook group formed in March 2012. It is sponsored by the National Liberal Party.

NwS has supporters from all over the world. All are different. And all are proud of their heritage, history and culture. But we are all able to come together and work to help each other achieve self-determination and freedom.

Freedom has two aims:

Firstly, it wants to highlight the fight for self-determination and freedom we face here.

Secondly, it wants to tell ordinary working people based in the British Isles about the different nations around the world who are fighting for self-determination and freedom.

We think that these people deserve our support.

They are all like us. They all want self-determination and freedom.

They just want to have the right to run their countries for themselves. They don’t want any outside interference. Like those of us who are opposed to the EU, they are fed up with Politically Correct outsiders telling them what they can and cannot do.

In fact, we all want the same thing.

We all want a real say in the way our countries are run. And we want the right to make our own laws, rules and regulations.

We all want to keep our traditions, customs and way of life. And we want the right to say how we work, who we trade with and who can come to live and work in our countries.

Freedom thinks that it is right for the different peoples and countries of the world to work together for these aims.

Above all, we all just want to live in peace and freedom.

From The Liberty Wall – National Liberal Trade Unionists – Give Us Some Government Action!

Issue 1 of Liberal Worker - the Voice of National Liberal Trade Unionists – is as opposed to socialism as it is to capitalism. It would be of great interest available to all those who take a particular interest in the economy, employment and general Trade Union issues. To get hold of your copy, simply e-mail natliberal@aol.com and ask for your FREE pdf copy of issue 1 of Liberal Worker.

WE KICKED off 2015 with a social and economic article which looked at the devastating news that nearly 1000 jobs will be lost when the JTI Gallagher tobacco factory in Ballymena closes. This will come as a real hammer blow to the Co. Antrim town. The factory is a major employer and it’s believed that it contributes £60m in wages to the local economy.”

Our article was naturally very sympatheic to the position the workers at Gallaghers now find themselves in. (Northern Ireland is one of the UKs main economic blackspots. And with nearly one-in-four youngsters out of work, it faces the prospect of having a lost economic generation.) However, we also sought to explain that the job losses are a symptom of the madness of globalism and capitalism. We also looked at the useless nature of government. (1)

Like many of our articles it sought to inform and to provoke thought and debate. In doing so, it posed some vital questions for National Liberal Trade Unionists.

For instance, is it ok for one nation to go it alone – to ‘secede’ – from the rest of the United Kingdom purely on economic grounds? To date, Scottish and Welsh calls for self-determination have predominantly been made on ‘national’ and not ‘economic’ grounds.

There have also been calls for Ulster independence, but these also have been on ‘national’ grounds, calling for a loyalty to Ulster only. Our divided people have been prisoners of their traditional loyalties for far too long. We want to give Ulsterfolk something to struggle for – rather than the endless die-in-the-last-ditch rearguard action to defend an already lost cause. We want to encourage the reawakening of Ulster’s national identity.” (2)

Our article also effectively posed another question to all National Liberal Trade Unionists: When should the government act to save companies?

As Trade Unionists we hate Cameron and Clegg’s Austerity Agenda which has seen workers thrown on the scrapheap. We think that it is the height of madness for a government to give out dole money for people who’re not working – whilst they they refuse to pay those who do work!

We fully support the stance taken by Ulster National Liberals who argued that – to save 1000 jobs – Gallagher’s should have been immediately nationalised:

This would keep the factory open and secure jobs. After all, what’s the point of having skilled tradesmen and workers rotting on the dole?

Nationalisation will also stabilise the immediate Ballymena area. It would stop this part of Co. Antrim from becoming yet another economic blackspot.

Once the situation had settled, Gallagher’s could have been handed back to the workforce and run as a cooperative. Ultimately, this would mean that Ulster workers would own – and Ulster owners would work!”

However, is it feasible for government to step in and nationalise any business that may be going under? Should there be a ‘ceiling’ on the number of jobs that can be saved this way? Saving 1000 jobs – and keeping £60m in the local economy – is understandable. But would it be even possible for a government to step in and nationalise a shop that employs, say, a dozen people?

With nationalisation in mind, another question is what industries should come under state control?

Our Liberalism dictates that we want as little state ‘interference’ in our lives as possible. However, we have to balance this against national security, national sovereignty and national preference. Surely, what could be termed ‘vital’ industries should come under national control?

From The Liberty Wall – Nations without States – What Must Be Done (8)
.
WHAT MUST BE DONE (8): Welcome to issue 8 of What Must Be Done, the publically-available organising bulletin of Nations without States.  NwS supporters are asked to read – and more importantly – act upon the instructions detailed below:

• ELECTIONS. Nations without States will be supporting the National Liberal Party’s forthcoming campaign in the British General Election, scheduled for this coming May.  This gives us five months to raise funds for deposits and literature and canvass and leaflet the areas where the NLP will be standing.

To date, one candidate has been selected. Sockalingam ‘Yogi’ Yogalingam is a member of the National Liberal Party’s National Council and the Organising Committee of Nations without States.  He will be standing in Ruislip, Northwood & Pinner, situated in outer North West London.

As with last year’s European Elections, a major thrust of the NLPs General Election campaign will focus on the issue of Self–Determination.

As Self-Determinists, we are simply asking for ordinary people to have a real say – and genuine stake – in the way that their respective countries are run.  And we want the right to make our own laws, rules and regulations.  We all want to keep our traditions, customs and way of life. And we want the right to say how we work, who we trade with and who can come to live and work in our countries.

Will you help Yogi – and his dedicated team of front line activists – bring the message of National Freedom and Social Justice to the electorate?  Can you help him promote both National and Political Self-Determination?

To help kick off his campaign, we’re asking supporters to send a donation – no matter how big or small – donating via http://nationalliberal.org/the-party-organisation/donate (note SY as a reference), by cheque to NLP, c/o PO Box 4217, Hornchurch RM12 4PY, or pledge via natliberal@aol.com

• FACEBOOK. As a result of a technical glitch Nations without States lost a lot of its members from its Facebook group.  At the time of the glitch our Facebook group had well over 3000 supporters.  It’s now been relaunched.  If you were a member – or know someone who was – please re-join now!  You can find our Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/184919468292372/

Our Facebook page plays an important part in our educatal and outreach efforts.  It allows Nations without States to promote both the general concept of Self-Determination and also highlight specific causes the world over.

Another reason to get on our Facebook page is that you’ll be the first to hear about important demonstrations, pickets, meetings and when our various publications are available.  Our Facebook page also hosts wide-ranging and lively debates.

As we noted earlier, our Facebook page can be found here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/184919468292372/ Just take a ouple of seconds out to check it out and join us.  Do it today!

From The Liberty Wall – Nations without States Debate (2) – How Can Self-Determinists Force Governments To Give Us Our Freedom?
.

Catalan nationalists demonstrate in support of independence

NATIONS WITHOUT STATES seeks to highlight the plight of peoples who aspire to nationhood.  These might be based on peoples or tribes based within a state or even across borders that may or may not have been independently organised in the past.  They might have a linguistic or historical separateness from their neighbours or fellow citizens. All will aspire to recognition, autonomy or independence.

And as self-determinists we support the right of all such peoples to determine their future whatever they wish that to be.  This includes for example the Kurds, Flemish, Sikhs and Tamils.

However, when it comes to obtaining any form of self-determination, the reaction of the ‘powers that be’ can be wildly different.  One only has to take a look at three cases in Europe to see this.

The first example is that of Czechoslovakia.  On 1 January 1993, this artificial state (created after World War I) split into the Czech Republic and Slovakia.  This act of self-determination became known as the Velvet Divorce, and it also saw the end of the rule of the centralist and unionist Communist Party of Czechoslovakia – CPC.

Czechoslovakia remains an example of where the authorities bowed to ‘people power.’  Here popular demonstrations and strikes – staged by students, dissident activists and ordinary working folks – forced the leadership of the Communist Party to resign.  The authority of the CPC had been ursurped and they were forced to accept the reality of situation.

The second example is that of Scotland.  Here a referendum on Scottish independence was held earlier this year on 18 September.  Here 2,001,926 (55.3%) voted against independence with 1,617,989 (44.7%) voting in favour.  This was on a massive turnout of 84.6%.

Although UK Prime Minister David Cameron likes to portray himself as a ‘cool dude’ who’s in favour of referendums (after all he keeps promising one on Britain’s EU membership!) many self-determinists feel that he wouldn’t have sanctioned the referendum if it wasn’t for the existence of a devolved Scottish Parliament based at Holyrood.  The parliament itself is controlled by the Scottish National Party, which has advocated independence since its formation in 1934.  It could be argued that without these factors, Cameron would have had to been dragged kicking and screaming to negotiating table.

The last example is that of Catalonia.  On 9 November more than 80% of the electorate voted for independence.  Here, more than two million people – out of an estimated 5.4 million eligible voters – took part in the ballot.

However, the referendum (or “non-referendum consultation” as it was termed) had no legal basis as Spain’s constitutional court had ruled that out.  Indeed, Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy has said that the vote was illegal and Justice Minister Rafael Catala dismissed the vote as “fruitless and useless”.

It seems that Catalonia’s position is very similar to that of other captive nations, whereby various ‘super states and Empires simply sit in denial.  With this – and our three examples – in mind, our question for this debate is: How can self-determinists force governments to give us our freedom?

This debate will be held on the Nations without States facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/184919468292372/

From The Liberty Wall – English Green Debate (2) – Are We Truly Against The Modern World?
ENGLISH GREEN views itself as a unique environmental group.  We are neither left nor right wing in the traditional sense – indeed we feel that we transcend these out-of-date political positions.  Neither do we see ourselves in the mould of the uber-Politically Correct Green Party.

We wish to build a whole world green movement of land and people.  And we look forward to the day when we are working and co-operating with ‘other nation’ greens.  We feel that to succeed we must adopt both a principled and pragmatic approach to life.

As such we shouldn’t be frightened to ask serious questions of both ourselves and other green organisations.  Such questions must include why so many greens support mass immigration whilst ignoring the effect it has on the environment and/or refuse to address world population growth? Also why do so many ‘green’ folks who care about animals turn a blind eye to the horror of ritual slaughter?

Bad housing is one aspect of the modern world that we can do without

However, one question we have to ask ourselves is: are we truly against the modern world?

On the surface, the answer seems obvious.  For much of what we oppose – urbanisation, the wholescale destruction of our land and the constant abuse of animals – are indeed manifestations of the modern world.

We would also view the American influence on global culture as very damaging (to England and the English too).  One look at our high streets, which seem to be stuffed to bursting point with fast-food outlets such as KFC and McDonald’s – with the seemingly attendant rise in obesity – are other examples of what we dislike about the modern world.

It’s fair to say that English Green is opposed to crass materialism.  We favour a move back to the land, organic growth and believe in a spiritual relationship between Mankind and environment. But we’re not advocating ‘turning back the clock’. Perhaps we have a different view of what the ‘modern world’ could be!

Indeed, is everything about the modern world absolutely rotten?  For instance, we support non-polluting – and renewable – methods of generating energy.  To achieve this dream we accept that modern technology has a part to play in the production and construction of solar panels, sleek wind turbines and wave power electrical generators.

Additionally, we wouldn’t be able to hold this debate on-line if it wasn’t for ‘modern world’ developments!

Therefore, our question for this debate is: Are We Truly Against The Modern World?

The debate will be held on the English Green facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/167522623276444/

Issue 156 of Fourth World Review On Its Way!
.
THE JOINT EDITORS of Fourth World Review – Wayne John Sturgeon and Graham Williamson – hope to produce issue 156 in the very near future.

Fourth World Review4WR – has been in production for over 50 years and John Papworth (4WRs founder, former Editor and now Editorial Board member) has dedicated his life to fighting ‘gigantism’ everywhere!  The magazine still remains true to his ideals – and promotes a worldview that values the individual amongst the mass, the ‘little man’ against the big machines, and the small business against Corporate greed.

Indeed, John Papworth has stated that 4WRs purpose is to promote the “argument first put forward by Professor Leopold Kohr over half a century ago in his epochal Breakdown of Nations, later popularised in Fritz Schumacher’s Small Is Beautiful. They were simply arguing that the origins of the modern crisis lay in the fact that governments and institutions (including industries), had become so large as to be uncontrollable under any political label, and that the genuine democratic target lay in making them smaller so people could control them”.

This aim is reflected in the magazine’s long-standing slogan: ‘For Small Nations, Small Communities, Small Farms, Small Industries, Small Banks, Small Fisheries and the Inalienable Sovereignty of the Human Spirit.’

Issue 156 will contain another article on Nations without States, interviews, reviews and a look at the life of economic and monetary reformer James Gibb Stuart who sadly died late late last year.  Mr Gibb Stuart is probably best known for his book, The Money Bomb.
