From The Liberty Wall – 4WR – The Importance Of Free Speech
FREEDOM OF SPEECH is a subject close to the heart of every National Liberal. We regard it as a fundamental right for everyone. In many respects it puts National Liberalism on a completely different ideological level from both ‘left’ and ‘right’ which (at heart) are dogmatic, undemocratic and totalitarian in nature.

With this in mind, it should come as no surprise that the National Liberal Party has been helping to promote issue 1 of Free Speech. This has been produced by a new Facebook group called Free Speech: How do we protect it?

However, we’re not the only supporters of the concept of ‘Civil & Religious Liberties For All’. The following review of Free Speech recently appeared on the Facebook page of Fourth World Review – 4WR. We understand that it will also appear in next issue (issue 156) of 4WR. In the meantime check out their Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/288486767860011/

4WR is a passionate supporter of total free speech. It’s an essential element of our ideology – encapsulated in our slogan Small is Beautiful! We’ve also supported the right to free speech in practical terms as well. We’ve interviewed folks from right across the political spectrum. Some we agree with – some we disagree with. However, we’re prepared to let everyone have their say. Indeed, 4WR feels that debate is a vital element of true democracy. Indeed, how else are we going to come to rational decisions?

With this in mind we were intrigued to hear of a new Facebook group called Free Speech: How do we protect it? https://www.facebook.com/groups/ 1607711629485795/1660336304223327/ which exists to “promote, protect and preserve civil and religious liberties for all”.

Formed earlier this year to mark the 800th Anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta on June 15, the group have just produced issue 1 of their broadsheet, Free Speech. The lead article appears to take its cue from Mick Hume’s new book Trigger Warning: Is the Fear of Being Offensive Killing Free Speech?

The choice of author and book is probably not surprising. For Mick Hume is a well-known advocate of total free speech. He is also Editor-At-Large of Spiked – check out his articles here: http://www.spiked-online.com/newsite/author/Mick%20Hume Spiked also has a Facebook site here https://www.facebook.com/spikedonline/?fref=ts and a Twitter feed here https://twitter.com/spikedonline

Here Liam Clarke reviews issue 1 of Free Speech for 4WR.

I HAVE to say that I am thoroughly impressed with a brand new publication called Free Speech. It strikes at the very heart of what I – as a true liberal – believe in: namely that you cannot pick and choose which forms of speech are acceptable and which are not. Unfortunately that includes some particularly vile messages. But for me the importance of free speech is far too great for it to be allowed to be put into some sort of ‘pick and mix’ stand. Hume is not saying anything that I would determine as radical or revolutionary. He’s merely echoing what true liberals have been saying for years.

I recently saw a video on Facebook of an ISIS terrorist beheading a prisoner. It sickened me so much that I intended to abandon my liberal principles in order to pursue a more ‘hard line’ approach to fundamentalism. I was beginning to feel that liberalism (which, for many people, is a ‘wishy washy” ideology) couldn’t deal with the increasing threats in our world. Essentially, I became convinced that liberalism was fine in a perfectly nice well functioning society. However, the world we live in is not that, and I felt that being a liberal merely meant that I was ‘absent’ from the real world. I was beginning to think that I lived in a sort of unreal utopia.

However, after more reflection I realised that the one thing that animals like ISIS despise the most is freedom of speech and thought. Indeed, I believe that it’s not just this band of barbarians that despise the idea of free speech – but every government, every ‘leftie’ and those on the far ‘right’. They loathe the idea of true liberalism because they object to being upset by total free speech! Ironically, they will be the first to defend the right to free speech of someone they agree with. However, they will be the first to complain when the likes of Jeremy Clarkson or Frankie Boyle says something that offends them.

This hypocrisy seems to bypass many people. I find it particularly fascinating what Hume says about students (I’m a student myself) and I can see very clearly that students “…often fight for freedom from speech”. Indeed recently Cardiff University was petitioned to prevent Germaine Greer speaking at the university due to her views on the transgender community. With this in mind I always recall Voltaire’s attitude – ‘I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it’. (And Greer is definitely in this category for me).

Years ago students – particularly during the Thatcher era – would have been fighting with all their might to get ‘controversial’ figures to speak at their university. Here they would held great debates about everything from politics to environmentalism and so on. How times have changed!

Today I’m subjected to fellow students handing out leaflets protesting against someone speaking at the university, or opposing what some politician has said. By doing this, I feel that they sacrifice the sanctity of free speech in favour of defending the ideal of human rights for some minority community. To me, whilst their intentions are sometimes good, they forget that the most basic human right is the freedom to offend (‘free speech’). Rather than debate they develop a pack mentality and vilify those who disagree with them. As a liberal this sickens me to the core. Indeed, it makes me even more militant in my desire to protect free speech – a fundamental human right.

The author and journalist Peter Hitchens echoes Hume’s idea of “Illiberal liberals” however the former calls them the “Liberal bigots.” Both of these terms aptly suit what I see in this so called ‘liberal’ society of ours. People with ‘far right’ opinions in particular are hounded and attacked purely because of them. As a true liberal I don’t condone ‘Illiberal liberalism’ or ‘liberal bigotry’ – indeed, I counter both with true liberalism. To me, defending everyone’s right to free speech is a fight which every liberal needs to join. We need to take up the flag and wave it proudly in every corner of the nation. Free speech for all isn’t a concept of promoting argument for arguments sake – it is what separates us from those who have an uncivilised and barbaric history.

The issue of free speech for all should be considered sacrosanct by all liberals and all true liberals should read Free Speech. It should also be read by those fake liberals who occupy powerful positions within the big three parties. They should pay heed to its message – as should every student and political activist throughout the country. This first issue of Free Speech should take pride of place among liberal literature as it serves to point out that the voice of true liberalism has not disappeared from the political arena – although I’m sure that many would think – and indeed hope – that it had.

From The Liberty Wall – English Green – How Long Can The English Countryside Survive?
.
.
“ENGLISH GREEN is a group interested in ecology and its relationship with all aspects of human activity. How we co-exist with the flora and fauna and how we conduct ourselves in an ecologically healthy manner and how we achieve a spiritual and material well-being are of particular interest.”

ENGLISH GREEN has just produced a new e-poster. The artwork was put up a week or so ago on its Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/167522623276444/ We’ve reproduced it above and as can be seen, it effectively asks what represents the greatest danger(s) to the English countryside and wildlife.

It’s probably true to say that humans are responsible for virtually all cases of environmental destruction. As much of ‘civilised’ society is based on greed we live completely out of sync with nature. Our cities and towns appear to expand on a never ending basis. And agribusiness seeks to saturate the land with chemicals and seems happy to consign animals to a living hell in factory farms.

Greed also entends to both the sea and air. Many environmentalists believe that the sea is over fished and is polluted – especially with plastics. And some smaller towns are now having issues with air quality, the result of people using the car for the smallest of journeys and getting stuck in traffic jams as a result!

Another threat to the English countryside is the way private banks control the supply of money. This means that there’s never any ‘money’ to improve the environment. Also worth pondering is how many politicians and journalists are in the pay of – or at least influenced by – those who effectively have an interest in exploiting the environment and animals?

From The Liberty Wall – Nations without States – What Must Be Done (9)

Are you dedicated enough to produce artwork like this on a weekly basis? If so e-mail nationswstates@aol.com

WELCOME to issue 9 of What Must Be Done, the publically-available organising bulletin of Nations without States. NwS supporters are asked to read – and more importantly – act upon the instructions detailed below:

• ARTWORK. We want to to issue dedicated NwS e-posters on a regular basis.  Therefore, we’re looking for volunteers who can produce artwork – such as that pictured here – using the likes of photoshop.  This will represent a considerable step up in terms of production so we’re looking for those who can turn out at least one item a week – sometimes at very short notice.  Do you think that you fil the bill?  If so, e-mail nationswstates@aol.com

• ELECTIONS. We are following our twin stategy – dubbed ‘Tradition and Revolution’ – of promoting Self-Determination both in the corridors of power and on the streets. By ‘Tradition,’ NwS holds meetings with elements of the establishment – MPs, MEPs and so on to promote our position.  And by ‘Revolution,’ NwS intends to build various forms of ‘counter-power’ in an effort to advance self-determination for all nations and peoples.

As part of our strategy, NwS wishes to support more and more candidates who fight elections on a position of Self-Determination. However, before doing this we need to conduct relentless and intensive door-to-door leafletting sessions in various target wards.  Here we will be ‘preparing the ground’ by making electors aware of – and receptive to – the idea of Self-Determination.

During the recent British General Election, dozens of youths were on the streets supporting Self-Determinist candidates.  NwS particularly wants to harness the energy of youth – therefore, we’re initially looking for expressions of interest from those who would be willing to help us raise funds, write, produce and distribute material in support of Self-Determination.

If you’re interested simply e-mail nationswstates@aol.com and let us know in which capacity you can help out.

FACEBOOK. All those who support Self-Determination are urged to check out the Nations without States Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/184919468292372/

Our Facebook page is particularly important for those who are arranging meetings, pickets, demonstrations and leafletting.  Let us know if you’re holding such activities so that we can help support it in terms of both publicity and a physical presence.

• PUBLICATIONS. Issue 3 of Liberty & Nation is now available.  Whilst not a NwS publication we feel it’s vital that all Self-Determionists read it.  Its front page calls for “National Freedom and Social Justice!” and highlights ideals such as Liberalism – Liberty, Democracy, Independence and Ecology.  It could be argued that these are essential elements for any free nation.

The Organising Committee of NwS would encourage everyone to get hold of issue 3 of L&N and debate its ideas with fellow Self-Determinists.  You can get 25 copies for only £3 (including post and packing) by following this link http://nationalliberal.org/the-party-organisation/donate and clicking on the Donate button. Then e-mail natliberal@aol.com and say that your donation is for 25 copies of issue 3 of Liberty & Nation – the National Freedom & Social Justice issue.

Self-Determinists can also get hold of this publication by sending a cheque (made payable to the NLP) to NLP, c/o PO Box 4217, Hornchurch RM12 4PY.  Don’t forget to say that your donation is for 25 copies of issue 3 of Liberty & Nation – the National Freedom & Social Justice issue.

We can also announce that we’re starting work on issue 5 of Freedom – the ‘Street Paper of Nations without States.’ Look out for further announcements in due course.

From The Liberty Wall – St. George’s Committee Debate (3) – Is Anglophobia A Form Of Racism?

A section of the Bayeux Tapestry depicting the Battle of Hastings and the death of Harold II – the last King of the Anglo-Saxons. Today sections of the British media appear to be as Anglophobic as William the Conqueror!

THE ST. GEORGE’S COMMITTEE wishes to congratulate the organisers of, and those who took part in, the Stone Cross St. George’s Day celebrations – https://www.facebook.com
/stgeorge.day/timeline

This year, England’s largest St. George’s Day parade attracted around 10,000 people – http://www.expressandstar.com/
news/2015/04/20/watch-thousands
-show-national-pride-in-west
-bromwich-st-georges-day-parade
/parade19dh8/ – who walked from Stone Cross to Dartmouth Park in West Bromwich. Here they enjoyed a family fun day, complete with re-enactment groups, Archery a Fun Fair and various stalls.

Other St. George’s Day celebrations included those in Nottingham, where England’s largest St George’s flag was put on display – http://www.itv.com/news/
central/update/2013-04-23/englands-largest-st-georges-flag-put-up-in-nottingham/ Hampshire and London.

Despite the growing public interest in England’s national day, different elements of the British establishment (including the media and Westminster politicians) either refuse to acknowledge St. George’s Day or vote to make it a public holiday.

As a cultural organisation, the St. George’s Committee would love to see April 23 become a national holiday for England.

However, to some extent, we feel that this will only come about when sections of the British media stop working to – what many of us believe is – an anti-English agenda.

And we’re not the only English advocates who feel that it’s virtually obligitory for sections of the media to attack anyone who promotes Anglo-centric interests or views. These interests and views can range from simply promoting English history, heritage, identity and culture (like ourselves) to advocating English patriotism.

Indeed, how many times have you seen an English avocate simply described as ‘right wing,’ no matter what that person’s own political stance may be?

No doubt early English radical patrots like William Cobbett and William Morris would also be called ‘right wing!’ And God forbid it if anyone advocates some form of English identity politics! They are way beyond the pale – and are automatically branded a ‘racist,’ ‘fascist’ and any other ‘ist’ that comes to mind! Why equate the behavior of a minority of ‘right-wing’ racists who might fly the flag with the majority of English folk who are no such thing?

The St. George’s Committee believes that Celtic nationalists – or the idea of Celtic nationalism – wouldn’t get this treatment.

We can’t recall the last time the media automatically described Celtic nationalism as ‘right wing’. Yet sections of the media seem to adopt this knee-jerk reaction virtually every time when dealing with English patriotism let alone English nationalism.

Are the English not allowed to love their people and their nation? Are the English not allowed to be nationalists? We have nothing against Celtic nationalists – indeed we feel that we can learn lessons from their many years of resistance to Westminster rule. But it’s strange that Celts appear to be allowed their nationalism whereas English nationalism is automatically branded as ‘racist’ and ‘fascist’ by the powers that be.

Why shouldn’t the descendants of the Angels, Saxons, Jutes, Danes and Frisians assert their identity? If nationalism is ok for Celts, then what’s the problem with English nationalism? Where’s our parity of esteem?

With all this in mind, the St. George’s Committee simply asks: Is Anglophobia A Form Of Racism?

The debate will be held on the St. George’s Committee facebook page https://www.facebook.com/stgeorgescommittee?fref=ts

From The Liberty Wall – English Green Debate (3) – What Would Our Strategy & Policies Be?

What strategy and policies should greens promote in any election?

ENGLISH GREEN is not a political party. We are a group that is interested in ecology and its relationship with all aspects of human activity. How we co-exist with the flora and fauna and how we conduct ourselves in an ecologically healthy manner and how we achieve a spiritual and material well-being are of particular interest.

We would also describe ourselves as a pressure group, in that we would seek to persuade all political parties to put green issues first.

Theoretically, there’s nothing to stop a pressure group like English Green from standing in any election. If this were ever to be the case (and obviously with the forthcoming General Election in mind) what would our strategy be?

Additionally, what would be the main thrust of our campaign – and why? We would suggest that, in no particular order, any genuine green election campaign would revolve around issues like the redistribution of land, localism, the treatment of animals, population and immigration, climate change and renewables

This debate will be held on the English Green facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/167522623276444

From The Liberty Wall – St George’s Committee – Building For The Big Day!

Scenes from previous St. George’s Day parades at Stone Cross, West Bromwich.

THE ST.GEORGE’S COMMITTEE is a cultural body promoting an inclusive ‘Englishness’ through a celebration of history and cultural events.

Whilst the St. George’s Committee is Anglo-centric it firmly believes that it’s the absolute right of all people to celebrate their respective national days, identity, heritage, history and culture. It views such celebrations of a nation’s culture as positive and a unifying force for all those who live within the nation.

With this in mind, the Committee is still mystified as to why England’s national day – St. George’s Day, which this year falls on Thursday 23 April – is not officially celebrated. Indeed, is there anywhere else on this planet where the authorities almost seem to be scared to recognise their national day?

Fortunately, many local groups throughout England have become fed up with the almost Anglophobic attitude of the authorities. This means that come St. George’s Day, thousands of Englishmen and women will be celebrating across the nation.

However, the largest demonstration of English pride will no doubt again be in Stone Cross, West Bromwich. Here between 15000 – 25000 people are expected to turn up for the celebrations – which consist of a parade, wreath laying ceromony and a giant fête in Dartmouth Park.

To avoid any confusion, the Organisers plainly state that St. George’s Day is ‘a family friendly event with strictly no politics’ and that ‘everyone is welcome whatever your nationality, gender, religion etc.’

This year the celebrations will be on 19 April – the closest Sunday to the ‘Big Day’ itself. Those wanting to help out with any aspect of the Stone Cross St. George’s day are encouraged to contact the organisers via their Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/stgeorge.day
