Look out for KV1

ISSUE 1 of Kent Voice will be out soon! And as we noted in a previous article (Issue 1 of Kent Voice coming soon! of 07/11/12) it will examine the subject of animal cruelty.

Taking the style of an interview with John Botting – the National Liberal Party’s Kent Representative and National Coordinator of the National Liberal Supporters Club – Kent Voice looks at four specific types of animal cruelty. They are:

“ … testing on animals, ritual slaughter, factory farming and the disgusting practice of exporting live animals.”

The interview reveals that John has been a long-standing opponent of ‘the sick practice’ of using Beagles being forced to inhale cigarette smoke. He was also actively involved in opposing the cosmetics company Revlon having their products tested on rabbits. Here Draize tests were used – these involved putting a substance in the eye or on the skin of an immobilised rabbit, and then observing and recording the results.

Of ritual slaughter, John supports the view of Marianne Thieme, head of the Dutch Animal Rights Party, who has noted:

“This way of killing causes unnecessary pain to animals. Religious freedom cannot be unlimited. For us religious freedom stops where human or animal suffering begins.”

The Kent NLP man also slated modern intensive farming methods – especially battery farming, which he describes as a barbaric system.” He also attacked the “the cruel and unnecessary trade” of exporting animals for slaughter.

As we noted earlier, Kent Voice will be out fairly soon. To pre-order your copy of KV1, simply e-mail natliberal@aol.com This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it and ask for your FREE pdf copy to be sent to you as soon as it’s available!

Total Democracy
The new co-operative campaign group Total Democracy held it’s first meeting on the 2nd February. Foundered by four centrist parties, including the National Liberal Party, it unveiled its first campaign press release calling for an additional box on all ballot papers ‘None of the above’. This will show whether the declining turnouts at elections is due to voter apathy as the main parties suggest, or due to disillusionment with those parties and the system, as we say!
Representatives of the parties unveiled their new banner outside Parliament and explained what Total Democracy is all about at a meeting. Jean Eveleigh on behalf of the Democratic Reform Party explained why we needed to work together against an uncaring coalition. Lee Holmes of the Peoples Democratic Party highlighted the difference between the professional politicians of the main parties and ordinary people such as ourselves. The National Liberal Party’s Graham Williamson, gave a speech explaining what Total Democracy is all about. We reproduce the speech below.

What is Total Democracy? Officially we describe it as A Coalition of parties, pressure groups, individuals and anyone else with an interest in politics and democracy?

So we know it’s a political group but who is it for?

The first strapline (slogan) is, Ordinary people reclaiming politics. So we know it’s not for professional politicians! All of us here are part-time, CONVICTION politicians. We do it because we would like to see CHANGE.

The second strapline is, A body of like minded small parties, groups and Independents co-operating together to reclaim democracy for the nation. Thus the change we would like to see is bringing politics back to the people i.e. greater democracy. This phrase, so often misused, originates from the Greek word (dēmokratía) “rule of the people”. Clearly, under that definition our political system is very far from democratic. Our political masters say we live in a so-called ‘representative democracy’. This not the rule of the people but by a professional political class.

Nor are these professional politicians representative since, whatever the issue, be it in war or in peace, there is usually a gaping chasm between what these politicians believe and what the ordinary public believes.

Party representatives unveiling first campaign (NOTA)

For the National Liberal Party, we might highlight the gulf between the rhetoric of self-determination and the practice, for Democratic Reform Party it might be the gulf between calls for political reform and the resistance of Parliament to heed those calls, for the Peoples Democratic Party it might be the gulf between what politicians say and what they actually do, for the Popular Alliance it might be Parliament’s failure to have worked in the real world compared to the rest of us.

If we all agree there is a democratic deficit how will TD function and plan to change things?

Firstly, let me explain what TD is not. It is not a political party. The founders are existing political parties; there is no need for another. It is not a merger into one either. It is also not an electoral coalition or accommodation, although it may ultimately facilitate that between some or all of its members.
In short it is a group to co-ordinate campaigns of mutual interest. This is quite unique in British politics. Even the present coalition is composed of unwilling partners and exists due to an arithmetical accident. TD is composed of willing partners.

Its’ campaigns will be on matters of common interest as decided upon by the group’s members. If a majority agree, a campaign will be launched. All will be opt-in rather than opt-out; so that no-one is obliged to promote something they may have reservations with. How all this will work will be covered by a constitution in due course.
NOTA

The first campaign will be NOTA (None of the above). We are told that falling votes at elections is due to apathy. We say this is actually due to disillusionment; with the parties, with the politicians, with the system. We know this from the proliferation of new parties and from our own experience. Our political betters may or may not know the reality but they are certainly spinning us a yarn. We believe that by putting a ‘None of the above’ box on each ballot paper we will increase turnout as voters will have an opportunity to exercise their democratic right without having to vote for parties they dislike! There is so much more that can be done but this would be a good start.
The future of Total Democracy

Party representatives unveiling TD banner outside Parliament.

Presently, there are four small centrist parties, the founders, involved but we hope to expand, including independents and pressure groups, once a constitution is in place.

In the long run I see this as the only realistic strategy to changing the system and the way we are ruled, and the way we rules ourselves. The alternative is an all-encompassing single party that can somehow sweep to power in a blaze of glory, whilst overcoming the powerful obstacles, such as the First Past The Post, costly elections and media blackouts, all designed to prevent such a fantasy ever occurring.

Furthermore, I don’t believe that any one party can appeal to all social classes, ethnic groups or political persuasions. The present three party system exists because it taps into and attempts to articulate the three great political traditions in the UK; Conservatism, Socialism and Liberalism.
Three Traditions

One of our councillors David Durant articulated a theory of the ‘Three Traditions’ and postulated that there were alternative versions of those ideas. For example, a patriotic version of the Tories might be UKIP, a similar version of the liberals would be the NLP, and a constitutional, and reformist version of the liberals is perhaps the DRP etc. In other words there are ‘alternative’ images of the establishment parties that can tap into the ‘Three Traditions’. Total Democracy’s aim then must be to get the sensible, centrist versions i.e. those parties more composed of and in tune with ordinary people, working and pulling together in a common direction.
This alternative will be a body that can reach out to all sections of society, individually and collectively, to represent them, and that body is Total Democracy.

The Algerian Massacre – and a British Engineer called “Smiler”

Our resident poet’s sad reflection upon what motivates those who massacre in cold blood….

Dear Friends

My latest offering is a poem as a response to the massacre in Algeria. All our religions preach (as I understand) love, morality and spirituality. Yet it is beyond my small mind to gate-crash into a gas plant and massacre 62 people in the name of God.

One of the saddest part of this episode was that there was a British engineer nick named “Smiler” (like me, Kiru, Aru perhaps) full of life; and as he was called to the fore to be shot, he walked with the usual smile, apparently saying to his Algerian work-mate a final good bye.

It is this man’s smile which was in the back of my mind as I wrote the poem. His smile I compare to the humanity’s spirit of endurance amid extreme provocation. That is why I conclude the response to this massacre too must be by law, justice and truth and not to the standards of the crazed few.

Jason

The Gun Blazing God’s Servants

(Amenas Gas Plant, Algeria Massacre – 16 Jan 2013)

Oh what a burden humanity to suffer
When a few claiming to be God’s servants
Unleash death on to the innocent,
While invoking God to witness their terror –
Oh what a burden for humanity to endure.
Faiths, we’re preached, for spiritual well being!
Wonder one, then why, the breath of many
For the merriment of a few, sent to infamy?
Is this the call of Gods or craze of disturbed beings?
Sad though these times are to the moral soul,
When evil descends to the depths of hell,
Hope there too for humanity to unravel
A spirited move to prevail over this terror spell
When gun blazing mob trample into humanity,
And stamp to the ground its morality and dignity;
For it to long for an end to this untenable insanity
Has a moral force, to the detriment of men of depravity.
Between reason and hate, the grey line
Seem so thin, hence hate outside the knowledge
Of ordinary minds! As the slaying clan blind
To the reason, let the response represent image
Of justice and reason, not be same as a crazed few.
Jason

Act Now to save Jobs!

THINGS have gone from bad to worse for the retail trade. Towards the end of 2012 two well-known retail giants – Comet and JJB Sport – went to the wall.

Now, just a matter of weeks into this year, the trade has taken a couple of really devastating hits.

First it was the turn of Jessops, probably Britain’s most famous High Street camera and photographic supplies retailer. Founded in Leicester in 1935, on January 11 it was forced to close nearly 200 stores in the UK – with a loss of nearly 2,000 jobs.

Then on January 15 came the news that Music and DVD chain HMV was going into administration. For the time being the administrators – Deloitte – will keep HMV’s 239 stores in the UK and Eire open while it assesses the prospects for the business and looks for potential buyers.

The only light at the end of the tunnel is that most commentators are confident that a buyer will be found for HMV. However, at the moment, it’s not clear if all of HMVs staff (around 4,500 people) will keep their jobs.

A day later the news broke about DVD rental firm Blockbuster, who went into administration after struggling against online competitors (1). Blockbuster has 528 stores and employs 4,190 staff. At the time of writing their future is unknown.

So what should be our response to the continual loss of thousands of jobs, the closure of shops and the collapse of well-known UK High Street firms?

First of all, let’s say what we don’t want to see.

The National Liberal Party is completely opposed to Cameron and Clegg’s world of casino capitalism, where market forces (in other words ‘dog-eat-dog’) will sort everything out!

We’re also opposed to state capitalism – socialism. One of its worst economic features were the massive state dinosaur industries which used to be an all too common feature of Communist Eastern Europe.

Instead, we favour a system known as Distributism. Advocates of Distributistism support the widespread ownership of property – and where the means of production should be spread as widely as possible among the British people.

So what would this mean in practical terms?

For starters, any large concern that went into administration should be initially taken into public ownership. This would be purely a short-term measure designed to stabilise the situation – jobs would be saved and shops kept open. We cannot see any sense in throwing skilled tradesmen and workers onto the scrapheap just to rot on the dole. Neither do we see any sense in having empty High Streets.

As soon as trading conditions stabilised we would favour these businesses being handed over to the workforce. They can then be run as co-operatives. Here, workers will own and owners will work. Debt-free loans will be made so that these new co-operatives can both modernise and innovate.

As we’ve noted many times, when the likes of the Royal Bank of Scotland got into difficulties, the government stepped in to bail it out (using our money!) We feel that if Cameron and Clegg can support the capitalist system then they should also support ordinary working families.

They should act now to save jobs!

1. According to People Management Magazine Online www.peoplemanagement.co.uk “Increased competition from online rivals such as LoveFilm and Netflix, and a general shift towards digital streaming of movies and games, saw the chain lose around £1 million a month in 2012.”

From The Liberty Wall – Nations without States
WHAT MUST BE DONE: The Organising Committee of Nations without States – Jagdeesh Singh, Graham Williamson and Sockalingam Yogalingam – are determined that 2013 will see NwS move up a couple of gears!  They will be organising meetings, talks, publications, demonstrations and much, much more.

In order to start the ball rolling, What Must Be Done will be issued on a regular basis and will take the form of an organising bulletin.   They ask that NwS supporters read – and more importantly – act upon the instructions detailed below.

CONTACT LIST: We need to build a contact list for all supporters of NwS.  Could everyone e-mail Graham Williamson at nationswstates@aol.co.uk – or send him a Private Message via Facebook – giving your name, address and telephone number(s).  We also need to know if you have experience in the following areas: finance, research, writing and distribution.  We particularly need to know if you are a graphic artist, a user of photoshop, or have a Blog, Facebook, Twitter or You Tube account.

This contact list will help NwS organise and co-ordinate demonstrations, days of action, literature distribution and door-to-door leafleting.

DEMONSTRATIONS: If anyone is planning any sort of demonstration in relation to Self-Determination, please post details up on the NwS Facebook page.  The more people who can attend these demos the more impact they will have on both the general public and the ‘powers that be’.

The aim of NwS is to build a broad-front alliance which consists of patriots/self-determinists from the British Isles and the various Diaspora living here.  This is reflected in our slogan Self-Determination for all of our Nations! Advertising your demo via the NwS Facebook page will allow other national and ethnic groups to support it.

FACEBOOK: We would also like to attract more supporters via our Facebook page.  At the moment we have just over 300.  The next step is to build it up to 500.  However, this must be 500 people dedicated to the ideal of Self-Determination and Freedom i.e. quality rather than quantity.  We would therefore ask NwS supporters to invite other activists as well as friends, relatives and workmates to join us.

The development of our Facebook page is vital to the development of NwS.  It will serve to improve communication and co-operation between the different groups already represented within NwS.  It will also provide a platform for smaller – relatively unknown groups – to showcase their cause.  Thus, we need as many people from as many nations as possible to join our facebook page.

Get those invites out today!

From The Liberty wall – English Green – Moving Up A Gear!

ENGLISH GREEN is the brainchild of novelist and musician, Tim Bragg.  He founded the group following the publication – in January 2005 – of A Declaration and Philosophy of Progressive Nationalism, which he co-authored with Graham Williamson.

Tim is also the spokesman for English Green – he describes its mission as “world ecology through small nations”and the moderator of its lively Facebook site.  Here, he ensures that any debate is fair, open, accurate and honest.

To date, English Green has largely used Facebook to perform an educational role.  In doing so it has attracted nearly 100 high-calibre supporters, all of whom have a long-standing interest in issues concerning the environment and animal welfare.

However, English Green doesn’t see itself as a mere talking shop, preaching to the converted.  It aims to move up a gear and turn its well-educated supporters into activists as well.  Therefore, it is initially considering the possibility of publishing an on-line publication aimed at raising public consciousness.  We hope to provide an update on this in the near future.

In the meantime one thing is very clear.  English Green is a truly unique environmental group. For instance it is neither left nor right wing – indeed it transcends these out-of-date political positions.

Additionally, it is willing to raise questions that some environmentalist and animal welfare groups – not forgetting the uber-Politically Correct Green Party – would run a mile from.  These include the effect mass immigration has on the environment and highlighting the horror of ritual slaughter.  (For the record, we only support sustainable growth – and that includes population growth – and we oppose all forms of animal cruelty.)

If you want to find out more about English Green, check out its Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=540647461#!/groups/167522623276444/
