The Banks Own You!
THE BANKS own you and your money!  That’s effectively the claim of many individuals and groups who are promoting the idea of a fair and sane banking system.

For instance, did you know that whenever your employer pays your wage into your bank account, your money actually becomes the legal property of the bank!  It doesn’t matter whether you’re a blue or white collar worker, as soon as your wage goes into the bank, it’s theirs!  Not only that, but the bank can do whatever it likes with your money!

For more information on this aspect of the banks, we would recommend Positive Money’s (1) video course, which is quite illuminating: http://www.positivemoney.org/how-banks-create-money/banking-101-video-course/

With this in mind, is it any wonder that many people want a root and branch reform of the whole banking system?

(1) Positive Money is a not-for-profit research and campaign group.  It works “to raise awarness of the connections between our current monetary and banking system and some of the biggest social, economic and environmental challenges that we face today.”

From The Liberty Wall – Nations without States – Issue 1 of Nation Coming Soon!
ANYONE who has read the Nations without States Activists Leaflet (1) will know that NwS recognises that it doesn’t yet have the resources to fight – on an equal footing – those governments who are opposed to self-determination. Therefore, NwS has to “conduct a political guerilla war based on a strategy of building different forms of counter-power. Basically we’re going to have to create a parallel system that belongs to the people and not our oppressors.”

The first act of this “political guerilla war” relates to educating both activists and the public and winning the Public Relations war. To do this, NwS intends to build the infrastructure of an alternative mass media of news and entertainment. We cannot rely on the establishment media to help us promote self-determination – so we’ll have to do it ourselves!”

NwS has made a small start in the right direction. It has a growing and very active and informative Facebook page (2). And it has produced a Activists Leaflet (mentioned above), What Must Be Done, a publically-available organising bulletin (3 – 5) as well as both a printed and pdf version of issue 1 of Freedom – ‘the Street Paper of Nations without States’.

As we noted in a previous article (6) Freedom was designed to appeal to those who read the ‘Red Tops’ like the Sun, Star and Mirror.

However, as part of our overall strategy of building an alternative media, NwS recognises that it also has to ‘reach out’ to those who read middle-market papers like the Daily Mail and Daily Express and those who read the quality ‘Broadsheets’ like the Times, Telegraph and Guardian.

With this in mind, NwS is now working on producing issue 1 of Nation, which will be written to a Daily Mail and Daily Express level.

We understand that this issue of Nation will feature around 30 flags of oppressed nations and highlight the need for all self-determinists to unite. A policy of ‘Unity Through Diversity’ will help self-determinists co-ordinate campaigns, share ideas, experiences and tactics. It will also provide the framework for self-determinists to systematically build the foundations of a movement, capable of mounting a sustained campaign over many years, against those who would deny the various nations and peoples around the world their freedom.

We understand that NwS will be releasing more exciting news concerning this forthcoming issue of Nation in the very near future. As soon as we know anything we will let you know!

In the meantime, we would direct readers to the artwork on this page, which prominently features a black flag. This black flag represents those activists and innocent civilians who have been – and who still are being – killed, ‘disappeared’ or tortured by various oppressive regimes around the world. (Indeed, at the very end of last month, NwS activists supported a demonstration in Central London, calling for freedom for Balochistan, merged with Pakistan in 1948, and for an end to Pakistani death squads and disappearances of Balochs and persecution in Iran.) NwS has produced this artwork as a mark of respect to both honour their memory and mourn their loss.

no2bedroomtax campaign

Alan Wyllie is a spokesperson for the ‘no2bedroomtax campaign’ and is helping organise their demonstration in Scotland on the 30th March (if in Glasgow area see http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/events/369488576491663/). He explains why he is opposing this ‘tax’ (actually a benefit cut) and why he urges everyone to support the campaign.

The under-occupancy element of the welfare reform bill 2012: The ‘Bedroom Tax’

Let’s be clear. The bedroom tax is NOT a tax. It is a benefit cut. This CUT will affect the most vulnerable in our society. It will affect over 600,000 people in the UK. It will affect 100,000 Scots and most cruelly, it will affect over 400,000 disabled people.

The Government claims that the bedroom tax will save money and improve our housing system. But that doesn’t tell the full story.

My local council estimates that it will lose £1.8 million in lost income due to the bedroom tax alone. That is money that should be spend on people and services in Renfrewshire that is now lost.

The eviction process is expensive to both the Taxpayer and the local authority/housing association. Shelter estimate that an eviction cost the taxpayers £26,000 and the housing association £6,000. That is money that you and I will have to pay. That is money that could be spend on our roads, our schools…

The Government’s own impact statement states clearly that there are not enough one bedroom flats for people to move into. It really is as simple as that. There are not enough homes for the ‘bedroom tax’ to improve mobility in social housing. That will mean that people will be moved out of social housing and into PRIVATE housing. Private Housing is more expensive that Social Housing. In England the average private rent is £163 while the average social housing rent was £83. And who will pay the extra…the taxpayer.

Alan Wyllie, speaking at the public meeting held at Unison Glasgow

The bedroom tax will not save money and it will not solve our housing crisis. What is needed is massive investment to build new houses. You can not solve a housing crisis by manipulating the benefits system.

The bedroom tax will cause, HUNGER, HYPOTHERMIA and HOMELESSNESS.

People will pay the extra rent. But will not have enough money to heat or feed themselves OR People will NOT pay the extra and face eviction proceeding.

There are shops in my area that sell single eggs as that is all the customers can afford. That is how hard the poorest have been hit. Families, both in work and out of work, are struggling to feed their families. The ‘bedroom tax’ will be the proverbial straw that broke the camel’s back.

I don’t view the bedroom tax as a political argument. To be honest I think party politics is detrimental to our democracy. I am extremely disillusioned with mainstream political parties. But I view this, as others do, as a matter of what is right and what is wrong. And it is WRONG.

It is WRONG that the most vulnerable are the hardest hit.
It is WRONG that fuel, food prices, profits are rising but wages are going down
It is WRONG that that on the same week as this Government implements the bedroom tax it will also give a tax cut to the most rich in the country.

I am a political reformist. I believe that we need radical reform of our political system, our monetary system and our economic system. I also believe that the large political parties only care for the party itself and the views of the voters are an afterthought. I hope that the no2bedroomtax campaign will awaken the people of the UK and return some of the political power that has been stolen from us.

It is vitally important that local communities unite and protect the defenceless in their area. That is the only way for this country to change for better. Communities that are united are strong. Speak to you neighbour, family and friends about the bedroom tax. Set up a local meeting. Arrange a demo or a march. That is the ONLY way we can win.

If they won’t give us PR give us ‘None of the Above’
After the recent Eastleigh by-election the media focused on the Liberal Democrats success in holding onto the seat and the second place achievement of UKIP. Both are significant in their own way. The LD’s have been sliding down the polls for some time so their victory (although they still lost votes) is a testament to the strength of their local ‘machine’ (although subsequent polls still show a steady national decline). UKIP successfully captured the populist and right-wing protest vote. After previously seeing their Coalition partners take all the hits to come third in one of their target seats must have come as a shock to the Conservatives and doesn’t bode well for a majority in 2015.
One statistic that went however largely unnoticed, was that only half the voters turned out, despite a massive assault on resident’s letter boxes and doorsteps. If anyone wanted to vote there was plenty of choice on offer but for many they couldn’t bring themselves to legitimise a flawed system. Even if we accept that there is an apathetic 20% this still leaves nearly a third of the electorate who stay at home because they are disillusioned with our political system. This disenchantment grows regardless of politicians efforts. For example, an astonishingly high third of the turnout were from postal voters (susceptible to fraud and arm-twisting).
There are growing number of voters who say ‘a plague on all your houses’ and don’t believe voting will ever change things. National Liberals believe that votes count more in referendums (as the majority view ‘wins’) and if cast for legislatures under a Proportional Representation system (to reflect all national opinion). This would help increase voter turnouts and thus legitimacy. In the alternative we believe that voters need to be offered the opportunity to protest at the system and the parties by including a None of the Above on ballot papers.
To quote from the Total Democracy group (the cross-party organisation that the NLP supports) ‘Anything that shocks the system, such as in Eastleigh is good, but despite all the parties fighting the election throwing the ‘kitchen sink’ at it, only half the voters were prepared to vote. The largest protest vote stayed at home! It is time to allow the disillusioned section of the electorate the chance to cast vote by putting ‘None of the Above’ on the ballot paper. Join the None of the Above campaign http://www.facebook.com/pages/None-of-The-Above/118826561613295?fref=ts. If our political ‘masters’ won’t give us more referendums or PR then give us this!

From The Liberty Wall – Nations without States

Demo held outside the French Embassy, Knightsbridge, (in South West London) in support of the Tuareg people and Azawad independence. Held on February 16, it was was attended by Kurds, Baluchis, Sabah, Sarawak, Tamil, Tuareg, Rif, Matabele, English and Scots and representatives from the Sultanate of Sulu.

WHAT MUST BE DONE – Issue 3: The Organising Committee of Nations without States – Jagdeesh Singh, Graham Williamson and Sockalingam Yogalingam – are determined that 2013 will see NwS move up a couple of gears! They will be organising meetings, talks, publications, demonstrations and much, much more.

What Must Be Done will be issued on a regular basis and will take the form of a publically-available organising bulletin. All NwS supporters are asked to read – and more importantly – act upon the instructions detailed below.

DEMO: Nations without States and the Imouhagh Organisation International for Justice & Equality recently held a demonstration at the French Embassy (in South West London) in support of the Tuareg people and Azawad independence. The demo was attended by Kurds, Baluchis, Sabah, Sarawak, Tamil, Tuareg, Rif, Matabele, English and Scots and representatives from the Sultanate of Sulu. The demo was filmed by Al Jazeera News.

We are keen to support as many self-determinist demonstrations as possible. If you are planning – or know of – a march, demo or picket, please contact Graham Williamson at nationswstates@aol.co.uk or send him a Private Message via Facebook as soon as possible.

ENGLISH VOICE. ISSUE 1 – PDF COPY. Supporters of Nations without States may be interested in getting hold of issue 1 of English Voice. Although not an official NwS publication – it is the ‘Voice of the National Liberal Party in England’ – it would be of particular interest to English folks and the various Diaspora living in England.

English Voice shows how England is discriminated against by Westminster, as it’s the only ‘Home Nation’ that doesn’t have its own parliament. The English are also discriminated against via the ‘West Lothian’ Question and Barnet Formula.

To get hold of your copy, simply e-mail Graham Williamson at nationswstates@aol.co.uk or send him a Private Message via Facebook – and ask for your FREE pdf copy of English Voice.

MEDIA (1): Representatives of Nations without States have given an interview with Thembani Dube – from Matebeleland – who hosts the Agenda4Action programme on uMthwakazi Review.com (1) and have also been interviewed by Dinesh Kumar of Global Tamil Vision (GTV). Here Graham Williamson provided an overview of the work of NwS, whilst Doris and Primrose put forward the case for Sabah, Sarawak and Matebeleland (2 – 7).

All self-determinists who wish to promote their national cause – via an interview on GTV – should get in touch with Nations without States as soon as possible.

MEDIA (2): Supporters of Nations without States are asked to send in details of their local media – both from the ‘Home Nations’ and the various Diaspora. This should include newspapers, magzines, TV and radio. If you are in touch with individual journalists please send details. We want to start sending out regular Press Releases so that we can focus media on the various struggles for self-determination and freedom.

We also need the details of as many web-sites, blogs and twitter that promote self-determination.

MODERN WARS
Our resident poet, Jason, reflects on the nature of ‘modern wars’, be it the impact of new technology or ‘ideological’ armies. The UK has chosen to be a protagonist at the behest of the US, rather than be neutral like Switzerland (our ideal country). Reflect upon the misery visited across the world.
Dear Friends
In modern wars, 90% of victims are found to be civilians according to the BBC.
We see new weapons (drones, computer directed missiles), and new crude actors (state forces, Taliban, Jihadists, rebels who pay not the slightest heed to humanitarian concerns).

The bombing of hospitals and blockades of food to hospitals and shelters (in one instance, 35 attempts were made and prevented o deliver food/water and medicine to a remote refugee camp). Such were the experiences of Tamils in the Vanni, Sri Lanka.
Multiple armed groups in a single conflict (Syria, Libya, Sri Lanka at one time), and new crude actors (Taliban, terror outfits) all contribute to make modern wars a killing field for innocent civilians.
Combatants hardened to suffering, such as of some pilots or drone controllers on bombing missions treating it as if were a video game, without realising the human toll at the end of it.
So all of this compiled in a poem titled “Modern Wars”.
Though only an idealist as me could imagine a war-less world, yet there is no harm in dreaming.
MODERN WARS
Utter not: War as legal,
Speak not too, killing as moral.
For millenniums, the breath
Of millions got robbed; delivering death
Got spoken of as means for birth
Or maintenance of ideals in this earth
Void of love. Mass cullings licensed
As war, and its twisted use pronounced
With pride to the glee of ruling elites,
And to the delight of battle field profiteers’!
Moral and just wars, the world heard enough!
What moral in a war? Butchery and plunder!
To maim and torch! To fire drones to blunder
The lives of innocent civilians; or endless buff
Of chemical, biological and crude weapons
Into densely populated cities; while morons
In cockpits gleefully target persons on the ground
Like target shooting played on video games!
Wars have sunk man to his ultimate shame!
Rebels, radicals, conservatives, dictators,
Socialists, jihadists, liberals, democrats:
To wage war and to form alliance for a kill,
Be they of any shade of politics, they’re all evil.
The kings’ wars fought in isolated battle fields,
While modern wars delivered on concrete mazes
Of homes, refugee camps, shelters and hospitals.
From them, in shivering fear, rolling tears, eyes gases
At onrushing death fast on to them. That last
Moments of death, if imposed on those
Who initiate wars, perhaps an end to wars
Could be found! So dreams an idealist.
Jason
