The Price of Freedom ….Death!

In the light of the terrible school massacre in Connecticut our resident poet Jasan reflects upon the hypocracy of the US stand on the right to bear arms but its demand that other countries cannot arm themselves (with missles, nukes etc).

The Price of Freedom ….Death!

To the earth’s greatest nation’s shame,
It’s being held to a shameful ransom
On 2nd amendment by blinded some!
Does it sink in how silly this’ve become
As often as regularly changing seasons,
Walk in gun slinging youth ‘nd men
Into schools ‘nd colleges to gun down
Lives – infants, adults- in violent termination!
As often to the world, from a high ground,
This nation preaches rights and obligations
And yet it won’t right the flows of its constitution –
Smacking the conscience of the world to question
Its self proclaimed position as a moral bastion
Though admirable the stance on freedom,
The gun lobby’s misplaced ‘nd blinded pride
Seem a travesty to a nation’s preaching stride;
And rings death bell to it’s inflated global wisdom.

If freedom to hold a gun so sacrosanct,
To own a nuke too, a nation’s sovereign right –
Would argue a cynic; both in the hands
Of the unbalanced mind would kill humans.
Right to life of those get gunned down,
And the loved ones grieving for life times
Deserve better constitutional solution,
Than what’s on offer at present times.

News from the Liberty Wall – Nations without States

Self-Determination for all!

The self-determinist group Nations without States was launched its own public event on World Human Rights Day (10th) and the 54th anniversary of the UNIVERSAL DECLARATION OF HUMAN RIGHTS. A document entitled A Declaration for Self-Determination (SD) was handed into the EU London office (and forwarded to the UN and No. 10) calling upon the International Community (IC) to recognise SD as a human right.

The document highlighted how various international bodies have supported the concept since the League of Nations through to the UN in its founding articles and subsequent declarations. Download it HERE.

Despite the aforesaid Declarations and Charters, across the globe numerous small nations continue suffer brutal persecution, repression and genocide, by large, imperious super-states. In particular, the process of decolonisation was flawed in that the Colonial Administrative ‘units’ were composed of various nations and were left in situ when the colonial powers departed. This left a mess, largely resulting in the larger nation imposing its will on the smaller nation(s).

This has left many countless millions of people suffering discrimination and worse and attempts to find a way out through a process of self-determination is met with violence. Many countries Constitutions even make any calls for self-determination illegal.

NwS are calling upon the IC to reflect upon the injustice done to ‘small people in general and Self-determinist activists in particular. The document recommends:

1. A special meeting with the UN Secretary-General, and the European Commission, to discuss and establish a democratic dialogue on the burning issue of unfulfilled justice and freedom for small nations.

2. The establishment of a specific UN forum on small, stateless nations, and their rights under the various UN declarations aforementioned.

3. The UN should review all existing states of the world to identify, where applicable, separate nations and thereafter evaluate the demands of their representatives whether for integration, autonomy or independence. If such representatives call for greater devolution or separation, the UN should offer, promote, and organise wherever possible self-determination referendums within existing states amongst the peoples of such nation(s).

4. We request a consultative NGO status in various international bodies for the NATIONS WITHOUT STATES, as a collective campaign voice for these small nations, together with a voice for groups campaigning and representing the various individual small nations (similar to the Transnational Italian Radical Party).

Although various institutions can help, NwS believes the European Union can play a large part in implementing, or influencing other bodies including the UN, the calls listed above and should take a view that states that make it illegal for their citizens to call for the right to self-determination are not fundamentally democratic and therefore must forfeit certain diplomatic and economic privileges vis a vis the EU (or from individual states that support this initiative).

After handing in the Declaration delegates, representing various SD groups worldwide, leafleted Sikhs attending a meeting to discuss the genocide of their people with some NwS literature. A similar meeting of Tamils on the same subject were addressed by a number of the delegates, some of whom detailed the problems self-determinists suffer in their own homelands.

NwS exists primarily to promote the concept of self-determination (supported by the IC in principle but no longer in practice) and facilitate cooperation between the various SD Diasporas in the UK (the first of its kind). A new initiative in that regard will be launched in the New Year. Until then anyone wishing to support NwS should, for now, join the facebook group Nations without States.

Free speech: A small victory for commonsense
In a small victory for commonsense, the House of Lords voted to remove the so-called offence of ‘insulting’ from Section 5 of the Public Order Act (1986). There has of late been a mushrooming of convictions against individuals commenting on twitter or facebook. Much of this revolves around someone been ‘offended’ by their comments (which would just about mean any comment anyone makes!). Whilst this part of the act hasn’t been removed the latest vote is a small chink in the armour of the PC brigade intent in creating their version of Orwellian (lack of) free speech.

Well done to the Reform 5 campaigners!

Dear RS5 supporter,

Victory in the House of Lords

Good news!

Last night the House of Lords voted in favour of reforming Section 5 of the Public Order Act 1986.

Despite a Conservative and Labour whip, peers voted by 150 to 54 in favour of Lord Dear’s amendment to remove the word ‘insulting’ from Section 5.

This is a great victory for free speech.

Thank you for your support. Now for the House of Commons.

Inflation versus wage increases: the shocking erosion of living standards in Con-Dem Britain

David Cameron and Nick Clegg. In Con-Dem Britain the cost of living has shot up.

FEW PEOPLE can have failed to notice the rise in the cost of living in recent years. Many households over the last few months have been receiving letters from their energy suppliers detailing sharp increases in how much it will cost just to heat and light their homes. No doubt pretty much everyone has also experienced that moment of disbelief at the supermarket checkout when the total for a weekly shopping has been rung-up.

A study published in The Times of 1 December 2012 provided some vital facts and figures illustrating just how far prices are rising ahead of wages. Entitled Consumers hit as prices outstrip pay by 10 times, it set out just how our standard of living is being eroded by inflation since the start of the current financial crisis. Heating costs have increased by 63% since the summer of 2008, (from an average of £819 to £1,334 per annum); potatoes are up by 50%, tomatoes by 23% and mince by 30%. Rents have gone up in price by 10%, (in England and Wales this has translated into an average rent increase of £60 per month since 2008). Over the same period, wages only grew by 6.8% and the overall effect of inflation has been to reduce the mean real household disposable income per capita of the working age population from £18,634 in July 2008 to £18,118 today. In plain English this means that rapid inflation and slow wage growth has left working people worse-off than they were in 2008!

So much for the economic figures, but what is their real-life impact on ordinary people in this country? Shockingly, The Times article cites research from The Centre for the Modern Family that found that one in eight people aged between 18 and 34 are sacrificing meals in order that their families eat well. The price comparison site uSwitch.com warns that nine out of ten people in this country are expecting to have to ration their fuel consumption during the winter. Overall, research by the newspaper has found that 78% of people are feeling that family life is harder today than it was five years ago and 20% are finding things a struggle financially. This is the reality of life in Con-Dem Britain.

Christmas 2012 – Support Your Local Shops!

YES it’s that time of year again – Christmas is coming! But in your haste to do the shopping, don’t forget the local shops and businesses in your area. Give them an early Christmas present by shopping locally today.

The National Liberal Party knows that times are hard and price considerations are obviously very important, but many small shops depend on their Christmas trade to see them through much of the following year. At present, many shopkeepers are hit hard by the recession – caused by the credit crunch – high interest rates and the criminal bank debt-system.

The shopkeeper, as a self-employed businessman or woman, plays a vital role in the local economy. (And don’t forget that these small shops collectively employ hundreds of thousands of workers throughout the length and breadth of Britain). Local shops are not only important for the elderly and young mothers, but are part of the glue that helps to maintain community spirit – a place to bump into friends, neighbours and relatives.

If we don’t support our local shops and businesses today, we may loose them forever. Then people will have no other choice to travel directly into the nearest city or town centre for the smallest of items. This may be ok if you have your own transport and are fit and healthy. However, the elderly or young mothers wouldn’t really look forward to beating a path through the massive Saturday shopping crowds found in our large towns and cities.

The message is clear. For the community spirit to survive and prosper, we must give local shops as much trade as possible. The National Liberal Party says support your local shops, shopkeepers and shop workers. Shop locally this Christmas!

From the Liberty Wall – St. George’s Committee – Working towards the ‘Big One!’

THE National Liberal Party believes that it is right that all people celebrate their heritage, history and culture. This is particularly so for the English, who are not even recognised as being a separate community. And this is also why we support independent cultural associations like the St. George’s Committee.

The St. George’s Committee is a national network of patriots, some in informal community groups, who are now working together to promote English values and customs.

Welcoming of all, the SGC wants to promote English heritage, culture and Identity, through the development of local cultural committees who organise local activities and events.

Operating as an independent cultural association, the SGC is non-political and just like any other community, we seek to celebrate our unique way of life, customs and traditions.”

This report from the St. George’s Committee is just in.

Welcoming of all, we want to promote our great heritage, culture and Identity, develop local community groups and activities.

Operating as an independent cultural group, we are none political.

AS ALL ENGLISH FOLKS should know, St. George’s Day (known as the ‘Big One!’) falls on 23rd April every year. Although the big day is still a few months away, the legend of St. George lives on in the hearts of all true Englishmen and women all year round.

And the work relating to St. George’s Day goes on all year round as well. This is especially true for the organisers of the West Bromwich Stone Cross Parade, which is the largest St. George’s Day parade in the world.

According to their web-site (which can be seen here http://stonecross-stgeorge.org/) the parade was started in 1999 when:

“Mark Cowles and a group of local residents of the Stone Cross area of West Bromwich wanted to display their appreciation and love for England, their country. They wanted to celebrate their heritage and acknowledge St George’s Day. They wanted to pay homage to our heroes and our glorious past. They had no political leanings or motives. This group called themselves the Stone Cross St George.”

Their dedication and hard work have paid off. The first St. George’s Day Parade attracted about 150 people – it now regularly features around 25,000 people. (Indeed, next year’s Stone Cross St. George’s Day Parade is already being planned and is scheduled to take place on Sunday 21 April 2013 from 10am – 5.30pm.)

However – and, as anyone who has put on an event of this size will know – such organisation requires money, and lots of it! In the case of Stone Cross, £10,000 has to be found.

Stone Cross St George were previously partially funded by Sandwell Council, however this funding has disgracefully been withdrawn. Therefore, the Committee relies on donations and sponsorship to raise money to promote St. George’s Day. To this end, we would ask any supporters of the St. Georges Committee to support them in any way possible.

Remember, St. George is for life – not just one day!
