EARLIER this month we announced that – as part of our strategy of building the infrastructure of an alternative mass media of news, views and entertainment – we’d be developing our local media.
The way we’d do this would be to ‘to produce a series of e-posters highlighting issues that relate to different areas. We will then viral out these e-posters via social media. In effect we’ll be spreading our educational and outreach seeds everywhere and from what sprouts we’ll pick our quality recruits from it.’
We’ve now produced our first new e-poster on behalf of Essex Voice. As can be seen, it highlights two of the NLPs core principles – Localism and Distributism.
For us, Localism is a policy which the local production, distribution and consumption of goods and services. It puts the local community, economy and environment first. Forms of local autonomy, decentralisation, small communities, self-sufficiency, small economies, and a sense of rootedness, identity and ‘local patriotism’ are cornerstones of localism.
For us Distributism is the alternative to capitalism and socialism. It provides a way of opposing both the tyranny of the marketplace (capitalism) and the tyranny of the state (socialism) by promoting a society of owners. Capitalism allows the concentration of ownership in the hands of a few. Socialism tries to deny any form of private ownership. Distributism aims to create a community of free men and women.
