European Elections – Self-Determination For All!

Hands Up To Self-Determination for All!

AS NATIONAL LIBERALS we believe in the right of self-determination – the right for the people to decide who and how they rule themselves.  This can range from fighting to stop Government interference in our civil liberties down to a minimum, pushing for a Swiss-style system of referendum and recall, and supporting the concept of the nation-state.

Many people, for example, bemoan the EU’s interference in the country’s affairs and the UK’s constitutional deficit e.g. no devolution for England.  We agree.  However, our view is global and based on the phrase ‘what is right for me is right for you’.  Thus, there are many nations throughout the world that are oppressed, struggling to maintain their identity, let alone achieving independence.

Whilst many may view those struggles as in lands ‘far away’, in reality they are being fought on our shores too.  There are hundreds of thousands of ‘national’ Diasporas in the UK, who have escaped from oppressive regimes that deny them even the simple right to fly their flag or discuss their identity.  The more activist amongst them are continuing their campaign here but largely in isolation and invisible.  We need to change all that!

ONE-OFF OPPORTUNITY!

Next years European elections will provide us with a unique opportunity to bring these many Independence causes, and our support for Self-Determination and the right for referendums on the EU and the Union, to the attention of a massive audience.  By standing in London we can reach out to 7 million residents via a freepost election address and no doubt media coverage way beyond.

To do so we need around £20,000 (for a deposit and leaflets).  Given that it would normally cost well over £1m to just post out the leaflets, not standing would be a terrible wasted opportunity.

The campaign would involve standing 8 candidates on the party list, each one representing a national community – including the English – seeking self-determination.  They would be making a direct appeal to their respective Diasporas to raise their voice by voting.  Whilst we would be standing to boost the cause, given that we believe there is up to 3/4million ‘national’ Diasporas in London, we cannot rule out garnering a significant vote too and 120,000 votes would elect one MEP and that would open up many doors for everyone!

HELP US

We need your help in raising this money.  Ideally we need very large donations – the deposit alone is £5000 but every penny will push us towards our target.  If you want to see the cause of Self-determination hit the big time please send us (or pledge a donation of £500+) something now!  This can done via the website http://nationalliberal.org/the-party-organisation/donate by post to NLP, PO Box 4217, Hornchurch RM12 4PX,  or a pledge via e-mail to natliberal@aol.com

Let Us Stand for Smaller Nations

Our resident poet Jason has been busy of late. He recently addressed a widows conference in Parliament with one of his poems on the massacre of his Tamil kith n’ kin in Sri Lanka (2009) and is busy preparing for a launch of his book of poems, some of which have been featured on this site.
Despite it all he has produced a new poem – ‘Let us stand for Smaller Nations’ – in support of the NLP’s desire to stand in next years European elections on the slogan ‘Self-determination for all!’ by mobilising the numerous national Diasporas exiled in the UK. If you want to support this project please donate by going to http://nationalliberal.org/the-party-organisation/donate and noting your reason.

Let Us Stand for Smaller Nations

The road to democracy
painted with blood of the brave:
rebels, radicals, poets, liberals, – all crave’
And put forth their lives for ascendancy
Of an ideal – freedom – which today we’re proud to proclaim.
Friends, the world yet to summon courage
To release the energy of smaller nations;
So they may exploit to the full, the suffrage
They’ve rightfully gained through valiant actions
Driven by dreams for freedom and liberty.
The practise of politics today a bewilderment,
As it often offends freedom to the discontent
Of smaller communities – who aspire to be free
And god, don’t they struggle, at costs many we
Would dare to dream ourselves involved in.
The birth of an order at the end of forties (UN) –
Legitimised enslavement of states wide and afar
To the gleeful permutations of larger nations;
Hence the struggle of smaller communities to steer
A struggle which we must give our voice to.
Giving voice to the aspiring smaller nations –
A cause worth standing for amid tribulations;
As our freedom was similarly paid for
By the blood of our forefathers – so
Let us raise our hands in unison to
Stand for ideals – liberty and freedom – we dearly love!
Jason

How many dreams will be broken due to education fees?

HERE’S another of the National Liberal Party’s increasingly popular e-posters.  It looks at the subject of education fees.

The NLP is keen for its members, supporters and the general public to provide ideas for further e-posters – generally known as ‘visual sound bites.’ We’re open to all ideas, but we’re particularly interested in those relating to social and economic topics.  We’re also interested in ways that we can portray National Liberalism as an alternative that goes way beyond both the left and right and capitalism and Marxism.

Send your e-poster ideas to natliberal@aol.com or simply place a comment on our National Liberals Facebook site (check it out here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/52739504313/ ) when this article is posted up on it.

New ‘Shop Local’ leaflets and posters out now!

THE National Liberal Party’s new Shop Local leaflets and posters. Demand will be high, so order yours today!

THE END of our five day countdown signals the start of the second phase in our Shop Local campaign!

For the National Liberal Party has just taken delivery of thousands of highly distinctive full-colour glossy leaflets and posters. Over the coming few weeks, we intend to distribute these up and down the country.

As well as being extremely eye-catching, our educational and outreach material carries a dual message:

• The first message is that we need to keep supporting local shops, small businesses and the self-employed.

• The second message draws attention – in very simple and basic terms – as to how the banks rip us off by creating ‘credit’ out of nothing and then charging interest on it (1). The new NLP leaflet notes that “Years ago Highwaymen robbed you – today the banks do it instead!” To further reinforce this message, our literature features a picture of a highwayman with the slogan Stand And Deliver!

We feel that our new leaflets and posters will be very popular. With this in mind, we’d encourage as many NLP members and supporters as possible to place their orders as soon as possible. To do this, simply send graham Williamson a PM via the National Liberal Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/groups/52739504313/) or e-mail natliberal@aol.com

Future Days of Action in support of our local shops are planned, so order your leaflets and posters as soon as possible!

The National Liberal Party is Britain’s ‘Swiss’ Party! (2)
AT THE very end of August we featured a new National Liberal Party e-poster which explained – very briefly – how the NLP could be regarded as Britain’s ‘Swiss’ party. Here we noted that the NLP was in support of:

• Referendums and Citizens’ Initiatives
• Armed Neutrality
• A Federal Britain

This striking and unique nature of this e-poster has attracted much attention – indeed, it was greeted very enthusiastically by members and supporters alike. From our feedback it also seems to have struck a chord with the general public as well.

Given the progressive nature of much of Swiss society, we’d like to develop the theme of the NLP being Britain’s ‘Swiss’ party. One member has already produced a version on this theme as a new e-poster version, which we feature here – see above. It calls for a system of direct democracy, Home Rule for all of our nations, strictly defensive armed forces and a fairer Britain.

If you’ve any more ideas how further e-posters can portray the NLP as Britain’s ‘Swiss’ party, simply e-mail natliberal@aol.com or just leave feedback on the National Liberals Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/52739504313/ once this article has been posted up.
