From The Liberty Wall – Nations without States – Calling All Aborigines …

.

NATIONS WITHOUT STATES – NwS – is a pressure group which seeks to highlight the plight of peoples who aspire to nationhood. Its raison d’être can be summed up in one simple slogan: Self-Determination For All!

Those who seek nationhood may be peoples or tribes based within a state or even across borders that may or may not have been independently organised in the past. They might have a linguistic or historical separateness from their neighbours or fellow citizens. All will aspire to recognition, autonomy or independence.

.

As self-determinists, Nations without States supports the right of all such peoples to determine their future whatever they wish that to be.

.

This includes for example the English, Flemish, Kurds, Sikhs and Tamils. A genuine self-determinist supports the right of self-determination globally where it is based upon a sound and just position and is supported by the majority of its ‘national’ community. The slogan ‘what is right for me is right for you’ simplifies why genuine nationalism is actually an inter-nationalist creed, quite separate to chauvinism which seeks advantage for one nation at the expense of others.

.

For many years now, NwS has sought to unite various groups – some who would have previously operated in isolation from each other – in order to strengthen their claim to self-determination. As we noted in issue 1 of Nation – the Newsletter of Nations without States – ‘the only way forward is for self-determinists to unite and fight. We need to follow a strategy which will be conducted both on the streets and in the corridors of power.’

The call to operate ‘on the streets and in the corridors of power’ was followed up in issue 2 of Nation. It detailed several areas where NwS intended to build ‘counter power’ – a parallel system ‘that belongs to self-determinists and not our oppressors.’ This counter power would involve the following:

.

• Build the infrastructure of an alternative mass media of news and entertainment. We’ve made a couple of small steps in the right direction here with the publication of Nation and our street paper Freedom, and the establishment of our Facebook site.

.

• Build both a cultural and counter-cultural movement that’ll provide positive alternatives – especially for our youth – to globalism and modern consumer culture, which is designed to reduce everybody to the lowest common level by abolishing all inherited cultures and identities.

.

• Build a social support network that can provide help, solidarity and humanitarian aid for our peoples both here and abroad.

.

• Build a political movement that engages with various self-determinists with the aim of creating a whole new voting demographic.

.
NwS intends to look at – and expand upon – all of these ideas in due course. But for the time being we’d like to concentrate on the idea of building a new voting demographic.

The reason for this is that later our friends & comrades from the National Liberal Party – NLP – will be standing candidates for the Greater London Assembly elections, scheduled for 7th May 2020 (1). The NLP will be standing under the slogan of Self-Determination For All!

.

The NLP can field a total of 25 candidates. As of a couple of weeks ago nine candidates had been confirmed (2). Initially, the NLP would like to reflect the widespread number self-determinist communities living in the UK (and who would like to be represented, if elected, at the highest level in London).

With the above in mind, Nations without States would like to help the NLP locate potential candidates from the various diaspora communities living in London. We kick off with the Aborigines, the various indigenous peoples of the Australian mainland and many of its islands (excluding the Torres Strait Islands).

.

We appreciate that it’s hard to know if there are any Aboriginal folks living in London. As far as we’re aware, the vast majority still live in Australia – indeed, almost two thirds of Aboriginal people live in urban areas of Australia’s eastern states (3). However, given that Greater London has an estimated population of 8.17 Million (4) it’s not inconceivable that some younger Aboriginal folks – particularly those from an artistic or sporting background – are living in the capital.

.

Even if there are none, both ourselves and the NLP would be interested in making contact with any activists who know about – and support – the Aboriginal Australians.

.

We’re particularly interested in what forms of self-determination are being mooted – such as greater recognition, autonomy or independence – as well as cultural issues. Nations without States are also very interested in bringing these issues to the attention of fellow activists (who’re interested in self-determination) via our Facebook site: https://www.facebook.com/groups/184919468292372/

.

However, with the May Greater London Assembly elections in mind, it’s vitally important that anyone who generally supports the cause of self-determination (and, if possible, the Aboriginal Australian cause) gets in touch with the National Liberal Party as soon as possible.

.

As we noted earlier, the NLP wants to use this opportunity to bring the unique idea of Self-Determination For All! to the attention of London’s electorate. If you fit the bill, please contact natliberal@aol.com as soon as possible!

From The Liberty Wall – National Liberal Trade Unionists – Liberal Worker Debate (2) – How Should Trade Unionists View Open Borders & Mass Immigration?

WELCOME TO the second debate hosted by Liberal Worker – the voice of National Liberal Trade Unionists.  As with our first debate held towards the middle of September – http://nationalliberal.org/from-the-liberty-wall-–-national-liberal-trade-unionists-liberal-worker-debate-1-–-how-should-workers-view-stop-search – this one also looks at an article originally produced by the Independent Working Class Association – IWCA.

Liberal Worker wouldn’t agree with everything the IWCA says.  For instance, it’s reasonably well-known that we’re not particularly ‘into’ restrictive class definitions.  However it’s refreshing to see an organisation of the ‘Left’ so in tune with the thinking of ordinary working folks.  This is particularly so with this untitled article (which was produced at the beginning of this month) which looks at the emotive issue of immigration.

This article exposes the disconnect between much of the modern ‘Left’ (including the Labour Party and some unions) who support open borders and many workers who bitterly oppose mass immigration.  It also proposes a ‘logical circuit breaker’ that – in part – ‘stands where the class stands on immigration.’  With the above in mind, we invite all Trade Unionists to read the article (below) and post any comments up once it appears on the National Liberal Trade Unionist Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/groups/277840098977231/

..

“The question is whether we want to be a middle-class party. The middle class has no problem with [immigration]. They don’t really come across it, but the working class live with it. The left hasn’t wanted to look at this problem for decades, so working class people have moved to the extreme right.”

These were the words of Emmanuel Macron, President of France, two weeks ago.

President Emmanuel Macron (left) has shafted ordinary French working folks with his support for capitalism and immigration. Will Jeremy Corbyn (right) do the same here? Liberal Worker - the voice of National Liberal Trade Unionists - is opposed to mass immigration as we feel that it’s an exploitative event caused by capitalism. However, despite the NLTUs opposition to mass immigration we’ve nothing against individual immigrants simply because they wear a completely different style of clothing or pray to another God. In Britain, mass immigration began in earnest in the years following WWII. Here, Afro-Caribbean, Asian and Eastern European folks have been used to plug holes in the British workforce. With Globalisation now in full swing, capitalism has responded and has imported huge numbers of people from the other side of the world to prop up its flagging economies. Whilst the capitalists may be happy with this, ordinary working folks are not. Massive population shifts have made existing economic & social problems much worse. Many areas suffer from great poverty – from the brutal Austerity policies of PIP and Universal Credit (which are destroying the welfare safety net) through to sink council estates that attract anti-social behaviour.

The same question currently faces Labour, and last week’s conference passed a motion in favour of freedom of movement which included giving the vote to all migrants, rejecting any immigration system based on quotas, caps, or targets, and giving all migrants free access to the NHS. Labour’s direction of travel indicates they fully intend to become a middle class first party centred on open borders, identity politics, Islamophilia, and post-capitalism. In this sense, far from being a break with the Blairite project, Corbynism and whatever follows will complete it. In doing so, it will shift into high gear the cycle identified not just by Macron, but by Anti Fascist Action 25 years ago.

Macron is an instinctive neo-liberal, so an open immigration policy is what comes naturally to him. “The arrival of refugees is an economic opportunity, and too bad if it isn’t popular” he declared in 2015. The presence of Marine Le Pen and the concomitant demise of the French Socialist Party, along with forty six consecutive weekends of violent confrontation with the gilet jaunes, have undoubtedly served to concentrate the mind. It likewise cannot have escaped Macron’s notice that one of the few places bucking the trend is Denmark, where the Social Democrats have taken an unequivocal – and unsubtle – stand against hyperimmigration.

If it is the case that ‘not wanting to address the problem for decades’ has resulted in ‘working class people moving to the extreme right’ (or more accurately, the right adjusting to occupy the space deserted by the left), then how is the serious anti-fascist obliged to respond? It cannot be overstated that allowing human labour to be treated as just another commodity to be bought and sold in the marketplace, which the open borders position amounts to under extant conditions, is the polar opposite of what the socialist project was meant to envisage.

None of this will be new to followers of this page. So the question is, what happens next? What happens when Labour becomes a fully-fledged middle class party, as the composition of their membership dictates they eventually must?

The dynamic described by Macron is evident across Europe. What hasn’t been attempted is the only logical circuit breaker: a working class first political formation that stands where the class stands on immigration, while out-flanking the liberal left in terms of orientation and out-radicalising the populist right on questions of economics. It is increasingly clear that Labour are unwilling and unable to perform this task, and so a fate similar to their counterparts in France and Germany is what ultimately awaits them.

From The Liberty Wall – National Liberal Trade Unionists – Liberal Worker Debate (1) – How Should Workers View Stop & Search?

WELCOME TO the first debate hosted by Liberal Worker – the voice of National Liberal Trade Unionists. As many readers may know, supporters of the NLTU are different from many of our fellow trade unionists in that we’re not socialists (or capitalists). Neither are we particularly ‘into’ class definitions. We feel that class distinction has become increasingly blurred. Also to simply define someone by the class is very restrictive: living, breathing human beings are purely described in economic terms and everything else – say, their character or natural talents – count for nothing. Despite this, as trade unionists, we’re naturally very interested in the lives and well-being of ordinary working folks.

With the above in mind, a comrade has brought our attention to the following untitled article which was published way back in July by the Independent Working Class Association. According to the IWCA, it was established ‘to promote and celebrate the political independence of the working class, and to pursue the political and economic interests of that class with no consideration for, and regardless of, the consequences to the existing political and economic structures.’

The IWCA seem to be more in tune with ordinary working folks and aren’t afraid to talk about real social issues like immigration, anti-social behaviour and drugs. They are miles away from the trendy, metropolitan ‘middle-class champagne socialists’ who seemed to have taken over the Labour Party. These are just a couple of reasons why we’re happy to reproduce an article from their Facebook page which effectively looks at black knife crime in London knife crime, and the left’s insane Politically Correct reaction to it. This article will also be posted up on the National Liberal Trade Unionist Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/groups/277840098977231/– and we’d invite our readers to post any comments up once they it.

Liberal Worker Debate (1) – How Should Workers View Stop & Search?

London’s Metropolitan Police have produced this graphic to address knife crime in the capital. Whilst the message is clear enough, Liberal Worker believes that the vast majority of ordinary working folk would support much tougher measures such as Stop & Search. What do you think?

SINCE 1 June there have been over 40 murder attempts in London ending in 12 fatalities. Yet if the figures are to be believed there has been a significant drop in knife crime since the re-introduction of stop and search. Yet the left continue to express their disgust at the use of the tactic. As an alternative they point to a supposedly more enlightened approach pioneered in Glasgow, but in deliberately ignoring one critical component, they again betray the minority ethnic communities they claim to cherish.

.

A week before the 2011 riots erupted, police went through 32 doors on the Pembury estate in Hackney in just one morning. Gang members were the target, the enormity of the operation illustrating both the scale of the problem and the surveillance and other resources required to combat it. And that was just one estate. A similar focus was required for many others across London. So in the run up to the shooting by police of Mark Duggan it was this focus that the gang leaders were increasingly unhappy with. Thus the killing became the catalyst for the gangs to hit back in a coordinated show of force. Coordinated in the sense that a truce was declared between the gangs that lasted for the duration of what the IWCA described at the time as a ‘lumpen rebellion’.

.

In the aftermath, the Government declared ‘war on the gangs’ while the IWCA analysis predicted the authorities had ‘learned their lesson’. And so it proved. According to the Times, stop and search “was all but abandoned after Theresa May, as home secretary, accepted findings that it was partly to blame for the riots”. Abandoned alongside the tactic were black working class communities, easy prey for the next generation of gangsters and killers (but then who speaks for them?). Inevitably, with the police disabled, the stabbings and shootings began to increase. A process which was further accelerated under new Mayor Sadiq Khan, who on the campaign trail had infamously promised to ‘do all in his power to further cut its use’.

.

But with stabbings quickly hitting record numbers, stop and search plus Section 60 notices (whereby police can stop and search without reasonable excuse across entire areas) were ushered back in. Since then, the use of the new powers has increased by 400 per cent, with a consequent 30 per cent reduction in killings and a 20 per cent fall in knife injuries to under-25s in the year to April.

Now, in a circular argument “fears have been raised of backlash over stop and search” according to a headline in the Times, suggesting the relative success of the policy may lead to further unrest. This is not only to confuse cause and effect, but also to muddle priorities. A condition Hackney Labour councillor Mete Coban represents in an effortless way. Tweeting from Stratford on June 16 he wrote: “Just came across 4 police officers at Stratford Station searching 2 young black boys for no reason. When I asked them [police], why are you searching them, one of them told me, ‘I have to stop these people getting stabbed’. This cannot be our response to knife crime. Disgusted.”

.
“Does Mete think that Section 60 orders are a more significant problem than gangland stabbings? Does he think stop and search is somehow the root cause of the knife crime problems?” inquires journalist Mary Wakefield. Yes, is the answer: because as it is already accepted in liberal circles that stop and search aligned with racial profiling was one of the root causes for the riots in 2011, it is not much of a stretch to seeing stop and search as the root cause for knife crime as well. Or as Katrina French of the monitoring group Stopwatch sees it: “Blanket Section 60 orders are an admission that you don’t know what is going on. It’s more about social control than crime prevention”. Of course when the idea of a police database was set up to allow them to know precisely ‘what is going on’, howls of “disproportionate” emanated from the same quarter. A similar puerility infers that as ‘social control’ is the authorities’ real objective, another gang orchestrated rampage which mainly involved looting, robbery, and arson would not only be justified but embraced as politically progressive.

.

If we challenge the Metes and Katrinas as to what they would consider a more proportionate response to the daily round of butchery, they will gleefully point to the Glasgow model where, according to liberal mythology, a cuddlier strategy has proven to be an overwhelming success. This is to close your eyes to one significant caveat. When the Violence Reduction Unit was set up in Glasgow in 2005, stop and search was regarded as paramount. By 2010 the tactic was being employed four times more than in England, and sentences for being caught in possession more than doubled to 5 years in jail.

.

Moreover, as recently released Scottish government figures demonstrate, it was when stop and search was at its most intense that serious assaults and attempted murders showed the most dramatic decline. In short, it was only after the habitual carriers had been jailed or otherwise dissuaded that the more holistic, community based approach had a chance to bed in. Naturally, the effective targeting of the habitual carrier is precisely what liberals are set against.

.

London has, of course, a number of aggravating factors (the sheer size of the place, sensitivity surrounding the ethnicity of victims and perpetrators alike, plus the mammoth profits from the drugs trade would all need to be factored in), but the adoption of the innovative hard line approach pioneered in Glasgow still looks like the most practical policy not only for the capital at present but for other English metropolitan areas as well. As for the madness assailing a left who blithely step over still warm bodies to shout ‘institutional racism’, there is however no legislative remedy.
