WELCOME to issue 10 of What Must Be Done, the publically-available organising bulletin of Nations without States. NwS supporters are asked to read – and more importantly – act upon the instructions detailed below:

BLOGS & TWITTER. We’ve recently had a lot of success networking with other Self-Determinists via Twitter. We want to build on this success. Therefore, we need all NwS supporters who read Self-Determinist blogs or are in touch with Self-Determinists with Twitter accounts to send details of these blogs and/or Twitter accounts. In particular we’re interested in the Twitter accounts of any journalist who has written in support of Self-Determination. Simply e-mail the name of the blog/Twitter account to nationswstates@aol.com

FACEBOOK. All those who support Self-Determination are urged to check out the Nations without States Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/
groups/184919468292372/ Our Facebook page is particularly important for those who are arranging meetings, pickets, demonstrations and leafletting. Let us know if you’re holding such activities so that we can help support it in terms of both publicity and a physical presence.
.
• NATION. Issue 3 of Nation – the Newsletter of Nations without States – will be out soon. It will be available later this month in both pdf and hardcopy formats.
.
It is vital that it’s distributed to as many Self-Determinists as quickly as possible – particularly those within the London area. This is because the lead article features Upkar Singh Rai, who is a candidate in the forthcoming London elections. Upkar is a well-known Self-Determinist, Human Rights advocate and campaigner for free speech.
He is standing for the National Liberal Party – NLP. The NLP is Britain’s only political party for which self-determination is its raison d’être.

The main thrust of his campaign will obviously focus on social and economic problems. However, he’s promised that – if elected – he’ll use his position to promote self-determination. Talking to Nation, Upkar said:

‘I will make sure that all of those who seek self-determination will have their voice heard at the highest levels. This will include Tamils, Tibetans and of course my fellow Sikhs. It will also include the English who want their own parliament.’

Therefore, if Upkar is successful, his calls for self-determination stand to gain national and international recognition, coverage and attraction! This is too good an opportunity for London-based Self-Determinists to miss! Therefore, issue 3 of Nation lists different ways of supporting his election campaign.

With this in mind, NwS is calling for as many people as possible to register their interest in helping with the physical distribution of Nation. To do so e-mail nationswstates@aol.com today or post a message on our Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/groups/184919468292372/

As soon as it’s available, we’ll be in touch with details on how to get hold of issue 3 of Nation. In the meantime, please help spread the word to fellow Self-Determinists – via social media – about Upkar’s campaign and his bid to get elected in London!

From The Liberty Wall – English Green – English Green Asks Why Do We Kill Each Other Over Oil?
.
,
ENGLISH GREEN has just produced another powerful e-poster.  As can be seen, it lists a number of natural and renewable energy forms and then asks a simple question – Why Do We Kill Each Other Over Oil?

When it was posted up on the English Green Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?fbid=1077378312322106&set=g.167522623276444&type=1&theater – the general feeling seems to be that governments are in the pockets of the oil companies, banks and agri-industry and they are all addicted to fossil fuels.”

Given that all governments seem to favour unlimited growth – and don’t seem to have any interest in living in harmony with nature – it would appear that those of us who love nature have a real fight on our hands.  We need to both win the hearts and minds of our people – the voters – and the politicians and convince them of the absolute importance of honouring the planet.

As English Green points out:

How we co-exist with the flora and fauna and how we conduct ourselves in an ecologically healthy manner and how we achieve a spiritual and material well-being are of particular interest.”

This e-poster joins a small but growing list produced by English Green.  You can view them all here:

From The Liberty Wall – English Green Debate (4) – How Do We Persuade People To Live In Harmony With The Environment?

THE END of November saw another interesting and thought-provoking English Green debate. The introduction to the debate briefly outlined the dominance of extreme materialism and rampant consumerism” (with special emphasis on Black Friday) and asked how it was possible to persuade people to live in harmony with nature.

This debate is being conducted via English Green’s Facebook page –
https://www.facebook.com/groups/167522623276444/?ref=br_tf – and is proving to be of the usual high standard.

National Liberals will be interested to note that the debate has noted that Switzerland is very pro-active when it comes to environmental measures. For instance, whilst motorways exist, the Swiss prefer freight to be sent by piggy back train through base tunnels under the Alps between countries to the North and South of Switzerland.”

As well as the current debate, readers can also check out previous English Green debates here:

English Green Debate (4) – How Do We Persuade People To Live In Harmony With The Environment?
.

Scenes from Black Friday 2014 in Britain. This year wasn’t as manic as many shoppers ordered online and stores introduced ‘ticketing’ systems and extra security. But how do we convince shoppers to turn their backs on materialism and consumerism and live in harmony with the environment instead?

IT’S PROBABLY FAIR to say that supporters of English Green are not the greatest fans of gigantic cities and towns. We feel that they simply generate more and more noise and pollution. We also feel that much urban sprawl is downright ugly! Instead we prefer a more natural rural way of life.

.
English Green is appalled at the way the ugly nature of city life is reflected in so many people. Today, many folks just seem to be interested in themselves and have next to no time for their family, community or their environment.
.
They also seem to be wedded to extreme materialism and rampant consumerism. A case in point is the scenes at the Black Friday sales held mainly in the United States – but now seemingly exported everywhere.
.
For those who don’t know, Black Friday is the day following Thanksgiving Day in the US on the fourth Thursday of November. Since at least the 1930s, it has been regarded as the beginning of the Christmas shopping season in the US, and most major retailers open very early (and more recently during overnight hours) and offer promotional sales.
.
For English Green it’s possibly the most crass expression of consumerism and materialism that exists. We’re not opposed to shoppers enjoying bargains, but Black Friday is much, much more. It seems to exert an almost religious fervour on people – whereby they completely loose all sense of self-control. Indeed, last year we were treated to the sight of riots at some shops in England where shoppers traded punches to get hold of some pre-Christmas bargains.
.
This year the scenes weren’t so bad. Some shops didn’t bother with the event – due to trouble last year. Others employed a ‘ticketing’ system and extra security. Many folks also did their Black Friday shopping online. (English Green has also noticed that far from being a one-day event, Black Friday now includes Saturday and Sunday as well!)
.
Faced with such a background – narcissism combined with rampant and powerful materialism and consumerism – how do we ever persuade our folk that we need to largely reject urban living? Indeed, how do we persuade them of the need to return to a more sustainable and organic way of life? A way of life that honours all of England’s flora and fauna not just we humans!

We’re not too sure if anyone really wants to destroy the environment – so how do we persuade people that we must live in harmony with it?

New Addition To The Liberty Wall!
NATIONAL LIBERALS will be familiar with the new Facebook site Free Speech: How Do We Protect It?

Formed earlier this year – to mark the 800th Anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta – it aims to promote, protect and preserve civil and religious liberties for all. Of particular interest to the group is when “elements of the State try to restrict freedom of speech and assembly.”

Despite only being formed in May, the group have already produced the first issue of their publication, Free Speech. They have also indicated that they intend to produce other promotional and educational outreach material in due course.

As a party that advocates free speech, the National Liberal Party is helping to distribute Free Speech. With this in mind, to get hold of your FREE pdf copy of issue 1 of Free Speech, simply e-mail natliberal@aol.com

We can also now announce that the group has just been added to the Liberty Wall.

The Liberty Wall is where we provide details of pressure groups and publications that promote ideas we can broadly support. In this way the NLP can help promote those groups whilst showcasing to our viewers some of the concepts that underpin our beliefs.

Check out the Free Speech: How Do We Protect It? entry on the Liberty Wall here: http://nationalliberal.org/liberty-wall-3/free-speech-how-do-we-protect-it

From The Liberty Wall – St. George’s Committee Debate (4) – Can English Culture Survive Under Westminster Rule?
.

Edward Elgar (top left), William Shakespeare (top right), Morris Dancers (bottom left) and Harold Godwinson (bottom right) the last Anglo-Saxon king of England. Many English Advocates argue that it’s impossible for English culture to survive under Westminster rule. What do you think?

“We, the St. George’s Committee are a national network of English patriots, some in informal community groups, who are now working together to promote English values and customs.

Welcoming of all, we want to promote our great heritage, culture and Identity, develop local community groups and activities. Operating as an independent cultural group, we are non-political.”

THE WHOLE raison d’être of the St. George’s Committee is to preserve, protect and promote English history, heritage, traditions, identity and culture. And as our preamble (above) notes we are a strictly non-political organisation.

However, many English Advocates are now beginning to wonder if it’s possible to promote Ango-centric ideas whilst England is wedded to Westminster. Indeed, some wonder if it’s possible for England – and the English – to survive whilst being ruled by Westminster.

The reasoning of such English Advocates is simple:

First of all, there’s a clear distinction between the English nation and the British state. Many English folks tend to think that Britian equals England but it’s clear that they are not the same. Following on from this, it’s easy to see that Westminster is not an English Parliament.

Whilst Westminster is situated in the heart of London it simply doesn’t represent ordinary English working folks. Indeed, English Advocates view Westminster (and the politicians who inhabit it) as merely the plaything of the local representatives of Globalism – the super-rich British elite.

Secondly, English Advocates state that the members of the super-rich British elite have no real interest or loyality to England or the English. They are only interested in consumerism and materialism. Their loyalty is to their profit margins and subsequent bank balance.

If Westminster is the plaything of Globalism it would have absolutely no interest in any attempts to ‘preserve, protect and promote English history, heritage, traditions, identity and culture’.

The St. George’s Committee feels that these English Advocates have made some valid points here. Therefore, we’d like to pose the following question: Can English Culture Survive Under Westminster Rule?

From The Liberty Wall – 4WR – The Importance Of Free Speech
FREEDOM OF SPEECH is a subject close to the heart of every National Liberal. We regard it as a fundamental right for everyone. In many respects it puts National Liberalism on a completely different ideological level from both ‘left’ and ‘right’ which (at heart) are dogmatic, undemocratic and totalitarian in nature.

With this in mind, it should come as no surprise that the National Liberal Party has been helping to promote issue 1 of Free Speech. This has been produced by a new Facebook group called Free Speech: How do we protect it?

However, we’re not the only supporters of the concept of ‘Civil & Religious Liberties For All’. The following review of Free Speech recently appeared on the Facebook page of Fourth World Review – 4WR. We understand that it will also appear in next issue (issue 156) of 4WR. In the meantime check out their Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/groups/288486767860011/

The Importance Of Free Speech

If you are a free thinker and non-conformist you’ll love reading Fourth World Review - 4WR - and Free Speech. To get hold of your FREE pdf copy of issue 155 of 4WR, simply e-mail papworthjohn@yahoo.co.uk To get hold of your FREE pdf copy of issue 1 of Free Speech, simply e-mail natliberal@aol.com

4WR is a passionate supporter of total free speech. It’s an essential element of our ideology – encapsulated in our slogan Small is Beautiful! We’ve also supported the right to free speech in practical terms as well. We’ve interviewed folks from right across the political spectrum. Some we agree with – some we disagree with. However, we’re prepared to let everyone have their say. Indeed, 4WR feels that debate is a vital element of true democracy. Indeed, how else are we going to come to rational decisions?

With this in mind we were intrigued to hear of a new Facebook group called Free Speech: How do we protect it? https://www.facebook.com/groups/ 1607711629485795/1660336304223327/ which exists to “promote, protect and preserve civil and religious liberties for all”.

Formed earlier this year to mark the 800th Anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta on June 15, the group have just produced issue 1 of their broadsheet, Free Speech. The lead article appears to take its cue from Mick Hume’s new book Trigger Warning: Is the Fear of Being Offensive Killing Free Speech?

The choice of author and book is probably not surprising. For Mick Hume is a well-known advocate of total free speech. He is also Editor-At-Large of Spiked – check out his articles here: http://www.spiked-online.com/newsite/author/Mick%20Hume Spiked also has a Facebook site here https://www.facebook.com/spikedonline/?fref=ts and a Twitter feed here https://twitter.com/spikedonline

Here Liam Clarke reviews issue 1 of Free Speech for 4WR.

I HAVE to say that I am thoroughly impressed with a brand new publication called Free Speech. It strikes at the very heart of what I – as a true liberal – believe in: namely that you cannot pick and choose which forms of speech are acceptable and which are not. Unfortunately that includes some particularly vile messages. But for me the importance of free speech is far too great for it to be allowed to be put into some sort of ‘pick and mix’ stand. Hume is not saying anything that I would determine as radical or revolutionary. He’s merely echoing what true liberals have been saying for years.

I recently saw a video on Facebook of an ISIS terrorist beheading a prisoner. It sickened me so much that I intended to abandon my liberal principles in order to pursue a more ‘hard line’ approach to fundamentalism. I was beginning to feel that liberalism (which, for many people, is a ‘wishy washy” ideology) couldn’t deal with the increasing threats in our world. Essentially, I became convinced that liberalism was fine in a perfectly nice well functioning society. However, the world we live in is not that, and I felt that being a liberal merely meant that I was ‘absent’ from the real world. I was beginning to think that I lived in a sort of unreal utopia.

However, after more reflection I realised that the one thing that animals like ISIS despise the most is freedom of speech and thought. Indeed, I believe that it’s not just this band of barbarians that despise the idea of free speech – but every government, every ‘leftie’ and those on the far ‘right’. They loathe the idea of true liberalism because they object to being upset by total free speech! Ironically, they will be the first to defend the right to free speech of someone they agree with. However, they will be the first to complain when the likes of Jeremy Clarkson or Frankie Boyle says something that offends them.

This hypocrisy seems to bypass many people. I find it particularly fascinating what Hume says about students (I’m a student myself) and I can see very clearly that students “…often fight for freedom from speech”. Indeed recently Cardiff University was petitioned to prevent Germaine Greer speaking at the university due to her views on the transgender community. With this in mind I always recall Voltaire’s attitude – ‘I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it’. (And Greer is definitely in this category for me).

Years ago students – particularly during the Thatcher era – would have been fighting with all their might to get ‘controversial’ figures to speak at their university. Here they would held great debates about everything from politics to environmentalism and so on. How times have changed!

Today I’m subjected to fellow students handing out leaflets protesting against someone speaking at the university, or opposing what some politician has said. By doing this, I feel that they sacrifice the sanctity of free speech in favour of defending the ideal of human rights for some minority community. To me, whilst their intentions are sometimes good, they forget that the most basic human right is the freedom to offend (‘free speech’). Rather than debate they develop a pack mentality and vilify those who disagree with them. As a liberal this sickens me to the core. Indeed, it makes me even more militant in my desire to protect free speech – a fundamental human right.

The author and journalist Peter Hitchens echoes Hume’s idea of “Illiberal liberals” however the former calls them the “Liberal bigots.” Both of these terms aptly suit what I see in this so called ‘liberal’ society of ours. People with ‘far right’ opinions in particular are hounded and attacked purely because of them. As a true liberal I don’t condone ‘Illiberal liberalism’ or ‘liberal bigotry’ – indeed, I counter both with true liberalism. To me, defending everyone’s right to free speech is a fight which every liberal needs to join. We need to take up the flag and wave it proudly in every corner of the nation. Free speech for all isn’t a concept of promoting argument for arguments sake – it is what separates us from those who have an uncivilised and barbaric history.

The issue of free speech for all should be considered sacrosanct by all liberals and all true liberals should read Free Speech. It should also be read by those fake liberals who occupy powerful positions within the big three parties. They should pay heed to its message – as should every student and political activist throughout the country. This first issue of Free Speech should take pride of place among liberal literature as it serves to point out that the voice of true liberalism has not disappeared from the political arena – although I’m sure that many would think – and indeed hope – that it had.
