MEDIA RELEASE: 35 Afghan Sikh Arrivals in UK Are Victims of Jihadi Persecution – Not Human Trafficking
The shocking discovery of 35 Sikhs in a container at Tilbury docks highlights the on-going persecution that religious and ethnic minorities are suffering within parts of the Islamic world. Given this incident and the recent threat to others in Iraq, Sikh activist and NLP National Council member Jagdeesh Singh reflects upon this persecution and the lack of self-determination for ‘stateless’ peoples, in a press release which we reproduce.

35 AFGHAN SIKH ARRIVALS IN UK ARE VICTIMS OF JIHADI PERSECUTION
Calls for Direct British Government Intervention
.
British Sikh campaigners say, the arrival of Sikh Afghan civilians at the UK’s Tilbury Docks in a container (east side of London); represents a potent example of continuing and chronic jihadi persecution of minority communities in Afghanistan.

British Sikh campaigners are urging British Prime Minister to match his rhetoric on fighting jihadism, by directly intervening on the case of these 35 Sikhs – one of whom has died in the process of the agonising struggle to get to the safety of the UK.
.
“Sikhs, along-with Hindu and Buddhist, have been direct and whole-scale victims of the horrifying Taliban Jihad warfare on non-Muslim minorities and communities in Afghanistan.” Tens of thousands of Afghan Sikhs have fled to the UK and other parts of Europe, over the course of the last 15- years.
.
Campaigners say there is a grave danger of the 35 Sikhs being treated purely as illegal immigrants linked to ‘human trafficking’, rather than as genuine victims of persecution. Jagdeesh Singh of SCAN says, “If the persecution is ignored, this will be damning injustice.”
.
Jagdeesh Singh says, “Early media reports keep using the phrase ‘human trafficking’, but fail to contextualise and grasp the situation of Sikhs in Afghanistan.” He stresses, “It will be highly negligent and dubious, if the UK authorities fail to consider the overwhelming persecution and ethnic cleansing factor.”
.
Over the last 15-years, with the gruesome onset of Taliban rule and an unsuppressable Talibanistic presence across much of Afghanistan; Sikh be-headings, kidnappings, destruction of Sikh homes and gurdwaras has become a routine experience.
.
Despite officially opposing the Taliban menace, the official Afghan government has abjectly failed to protect mainstream Afghan civilians and long-settled communities like the Sikhs. Afghanistan is a social disorder and a failed state. The long-established Sikh population have now been ethnically cleansed wholescale from Afghanistan.
.
Campaigners say, “These arrivals represent the last desperate remnants of an already heavily terrorised and fleeing Sikh population. They deserve the same support and protection as the Yazidi and Christians of Iraq.” British and US military and political policy in Afghanistan has completely failed to establish law and order, justice and human rights.
.
The Sikh community have over centuries in their home country of Panjaab, been direct victims of Islamic jihadism. The Sikhs have risen as a community during the 15-18th century, as a frontline resistance to jihadi invasions and impositions across northern India and surrounding regions of South Asia.
.
“We have had a vicious and genocidal experience of jhadism down the centuries. We can speak as first-hand victims of mass jihadism across our home country. We were the most resolute and determined opposition to jihadism under Mughal rule and from Afghanistan. We became famous for our robust and heroic fight against jihadism including defeat of Afghan-Pathaan fanatics, and our emergence as an independent people and state from such a gruelling liberation struggle. “ Says Jagdeesh Singh of SCAN. “We have a lot to teach and share with the world about jihadi persecution.”

FURTHER INFORMATION
.
1. British Sikh campaigners, stress that, “jihadism remains a poisonous modern fire which has resurged and shown its powerful spread across the Middle-East, Afghanistan, Pakistan and is beginning to make dangerous noises in India aswell. Jihadism poses a major threat to global affairs and is third force, alongside the unethical and greedy scheming and territorial carve ups which define western-imperialistic foreign policy. Communities like the Kurds, Sikhs, Tamils, Kashmiris, Baluchi, Sindi, Palestinian, are all direct victims of this global disarray caused by the wealing and dealing of British, French, Russian, US, Chinese, Indian, Saudi Arabia and other collaborating governments.
.
2. British Sikh campaigners are due to hold a series of public dialogues on the present and future dangers posed by Jihadism – both globally and in the UK, coupled with the equally damaging messy foreign policy strategies of major governments including the British. “This horrifying mix of selfish gain, militarism, commercial greed and profit, has caused multiple wars, genocide, persecution, creation of artificial countries, division and ethnic cleansing of natural nations like the Kurds, Pathaans, Panjaabis, Bengalis, Palestinians, and more.” Says Jagdeesh Singh. “The world must unite against this enduring poisonous manipulation and collusion, as big governments carve up the world and its riches and devastate and destroy small, natural communities in the process. This has happened throughout history, including World War 1.”
.
3. The US and British governments actively and incessantly armed the Afghan resistance to the Russian occupation during the 1980s, for their purely strategic interest in pushing back the Russian presence. The very same Afghan muhjahdeen, immediately afterwards became the foes of the west, sprouting into the barbaric, totalitarian ‘Taliban’ in Aghanistan. This is the nature of uncontrolled, incoherent, contradictory global foreign policy and opportunistic pacts and alliances – concerned solely with short-term, selfish geo-political interests.
.
4. British Sikh campaigners are expressing their concerns about the engulfing fire of jihadism, which is currently manifest in the Middle-East. Modern-day jihadism like the Pope’s vicious, genocidal crusades of previous centuries, is a devastating plague on the world scene, which is directly targeting non-Muslim peoples across the globe – Iraq, Syria, Kurdistan, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Indonesia. In past centuries, it had devastated the various peoples of South Asia.
.
5. “The west should speak to the Sikhs to learn the profound and indelible lessons of jihadism. We have suffered it’s gruesome and genocidal affects for hundreds of years.” Says Jagdeesh Singh of SCAN. “The current and enduring British government panic about the seemingly unstoppable giant of jihadism, and its ominous incursions into British territory, are very telling; as too are its abject failure to engage with the Sikhs who have been a prime historic resistance against jihadism.”
.
6. The multiple experiences of the Sikh people across the globe, as a stateless people, demonstrates to them and similarly stateless people like the Kurds, the dire effects and gross vulnerable of having no government, no state and no safe territory. Sikhs have been forced to flee time and time again, in the 1947 partition of their home country, in the Uganda expulsion of the early 1970s, the 9-11 global hate backlash and currently the Aghanistan experience. “The Sikhs are like a ship without a place to anchor.” Says Jagdeesh Singh of the Sikh Community Action Network. “History and modern global experience has shown that we will remain exposed and unsafe, until we have our own free state, again.”

National Liberal Debate 12 – What’s Our Take On UKIP? Have Your Say!

UKIPs Nigel Farage. Serious politician, clown or would-be Führer?

THE MANY problems faced by Britain – whether economic or social – are not going to be solved by screaming and shouting. Thus, the National Liberal Party is not interested in ‘hitting the headlines’ using the tired formula of macho–posturing and gesture politics. These problems will only be overcome by a combination of careful thought and action.

This means that we favour informed and reasoned debate. Here we concentrate on arguments, points of view and facts. We are not interested in personalities, prejudice or promoting self-interest.

The National Liberal Party seeks to build an organisation that encourages free speech and debate. To do this, we also attempt to take into consideration as many views as is possible in open debate. Thus, members and supporters are always encouraged to have their say.

We’re also interested in encouraging people to develop their debating skills. That’s why the NLP has introduced a new series of articles called Have Your Say! Whilst each subject will be announced on this web-site, they’ll be conducted in full on the National Liberals Facebook site, which can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/groups/52739504313/?fref=ts

Before we start this debate we’d like to remind folks of our ground rules:

  • First of all, say what you think – but think what you say.

  • Secondly, just debate the issue(s) raised. There should be no personal attacks.

  • As previously noted, we’re simply not interested in personalities.

  • Please note that we may ask selected members and supporters to play ‘devil’s advocate’. Hopefully, this’ll help sharpen the debating skills of all involved!

  • Finally, it should be remembered that all of the views expressed in Have Your Say! are personal and should not be taken to be the official view of the NLP itself.

Our latest question relates to the United Kingdom Independence Party (UKIP.) Now that the dust has settled on the European Elections – and all of the hullabaloo is over – how should we view UKIP?

There’s no denying that UKIP were the big winners of last month’s elections. They scooped 27.5% of the vote (+11% from the 2009 Euro-Elections) which gave them 23 MEPs. That’s a gain of 10 MEPs.

Yet they went into the Elections without a Manifesto! And it’s probably fair to say that the vast majority of voters have absolutely no idea what UKIP actually stand for – apart from their stance on the EU and immigration.

So what about UKIP? Are they racists and xenophobes as their detractors would say? Or are they simply articulating the genuine concerns of the British public?

In addition to this, we’d be interested to know how both the establishment and both the extreme left and right will react to the rise of UKIP. Will the Tories try to ape UKIP and talk ‘tough’ about the EU and immigration? Will the extreme left simply revert to type and launch a series of violent attacks on Nigle Farage and Co? Will the extreme right become more extreme to try and put clear water between themselves and UKIP?

Let us know your views – simply check out the debate at Facebook/National Liberals today!

Celebrate Magna Carta Day!
.
SUNDAY 15th June sees the 799th Anniversary of the signing of the Magna Carta.

The Magna Carta was signed by King John in 1215 at Runnymede, Surrey. For those who know, it’s one of the most important documents ever signed – and is revered by active freedom-lovers the world over. However, it’s a fair bet that not many ordinary’ folks in Britain will have ever heard of it, let alone celebrate it.

This is both sad and a national scandal.

The importance of the Magna Carta is explained by one web-site (1) which seeks to explain the importance of the publication:

Its lasting iconic value as the foundation of so many world democracies lies in the power of an idea – a principle, which states that nobody, including the King, is above the law of the land.”

The National Liberal Party is passionate about maintaining and enhancing our traditional freedoms. Indeed, Liberty is cited as as one of our core principles (2). Some time ago, we established a web-site http://www.15thjunemagnacarta.org/ dedicated to promoting the Magna Carta. It notes:

“In 13th Century England the Monarchy represented the State, only the powerful had any rights. In 1215, at a turning point of History, King John was forced to sign the Magna Carta document. This was the first time that the people were recognised as having rights!!”

The NLP feels that the freedoms established by the Magna Carta are needed like never before. Although Britain is far from perfect, at least we are allowed to vote and can openly criticise the government of the day. Unlike some nations, we are allowed a trial by jury and are presumed innocent until proven guilty. With this in mind, it’s probably no wonder that so many genuine political refugees head here.

To emphasise the importance of safeguarding our liberties and freedoms, the National Liberal Party (in publications such as Caledonian Voice, English Voice and Liberty & Nation) warns against:

Politically Correct busy bodies who seem to want to dictate to everyone how they should think and act. Despite their self-proclaimed ‘liberalism’, in reality they’re dogmatic, undemocratic and totalitarian in nature.”

With this in mind, we’d ask readers to consider supporting the Free Speech NOW! campaign (3) launched by Spiked on-line magazine (4).

But the fight for liberty and freedom is not just limited to Britain. Another group worthy of support is the American Civil Liberties Union – ACLU (5). Their mission is “to defend and preserve the individual rights and liberties guaranteed to every person in this country by the Constitution and laws of the United States.”

Magna Carta Day should – in particular – be celebrated by folks who are non-conformist, open-minded, non-judgemental, libertarian and free-thinking. We should use the day to reflect how lucky we are. But we should also use it as a spur to action – to see that all of our traditional freedoms are enshrined in a written constitution. And these freedoms should apply to everyone, no matter their background or status.

Review of Caledonian Voice (Issue 2)
ISSUE 2 of Caledonian Voice – the Voice of the National Liberal Party – was produced in February. The main article (For A Free Scotland In A Free Europe!) examined the European Union and found much wanting. As our article of the time http://nationalliberal.org/for-a-free-scotland-in-a-free-europe noted, Caledonian Voice found the EU increasingly totalitarian.” It also felt that the EU was a bureaucratic regime” that employed a form of central planning “very similar to that employed by the old Soviet Union.”

This review of Caledonian Voice has been written by Liam Clarke. As with all of his articles and reviews, this is full of passion, sincerity and is highly personal. If you wish to have your say regarding Liam’s review, simply check out https://www.facebook.com/groups/52739504313/?fref=nf and look for the link to this article.

To get hold of your FREE pdf copy of issue 2 of Caledonain Voice, simply e-mail: natliberal@aol.com

THERE IS LITTLE that I need to say about the latest issue of Caledonian Voice. Is it because it is so bad? Not at all! I don’t need to say much because Caledonian VoiceCV – says everything that, as a National Liberal, I would want to say myself.

I am not a Scot, but as an Englishman, and a brother of the Scots, it is my belief that they should not stand idly by and accept complete destruction by the bureaucrats in Brussels. The European Union (and note how the language used in describing the EU is now identical to that of the former Communist institution), is comprised of many different political classes and ideologies. Yet, it seems that the one political POV the EU will not accept in its chambers is true nationalism, or more specifically, national pride.

Across the globe Scotland has a reputation as one of the proudest nations on earth. Yet like many other proud states under the jackboot of Brussels, it seems the national issues of Scotland are being drowned beneath a sea of contempt for independent Nations.

But what is more sublime about this edition of CV is that, unlike the fascist rhetoric of the far right, it recognises the needs of those in Eastern Europe. They are not to blame for seeking out a life that’s much better than the one they are being offered in their home countries. (Ironically, countries like Poland have been destroyed by totalitarianism before – firstly by the Third Reich, then the USSR and now by the very institution allegedly set up for the purpose of preventing that type of dictatorship!)

CV also points out that money-loving (and dare I say ‘evil capitalists’) have tempted underprivileged Europeans to foreign lands with the promise of a better life. Consequently they are to blame for the disintegration of economies Europe-wide. As it notes the EU (and the political elites) exist to benefit big business and not ordinary working families and communities.”

Personally, I don’t particularly care whether I am in a workplace where there are people called Pavel or Vladimir. Nor do I care whether my children shall be attending a school with people who have surnames that contain about 20 vowels. The issue for me (with people moving across Europe) is not the one being spurted out by UKIP or the BNP, but simply one of compassion.

There are three reasons why it is dangerous to allow people to move freely throughout EU states:

1. It puts an incredible strain on the infrastructure of the host nation. Areas like the health service, education and employment are all effected.

2. The EU (in its current format) has destroyed countries in Eastern Europe. The answer isn’t simply to ‘Send Them Back Home!’ or ‘Close Our borders!’ We need to recognise the problems in these countries and the other areas of Europe that are in crisis. Only a reformed Europe can address and fix these problems.

3. I believe that immigration has benefited many countries in the past, present and will do so in the future. Has any country in this world has grown economically without some form of immigration? Immigration brings fresh insights, new technology and a fresh perspective. It is nothing new and indeed it is not harmful or dangerous – unless you are one of those idiots who feels that being of a particular race means that you are ‘superior’ to others.

My point here is that thinking on purely racial or cultural terms is more damaging than immigration ever will be. I have spent so much time in this review talking about this issue because I feel that we’re in real danger from the reactionary nature of the BNP and UKIP. To me, Caledonian Voice has addressed this issue very successfully, while at the same time maintaining its pride in Scotland. This is how any future campaigning (especially for the European elections) should be done, with pride, integrity and compassion.

CAST OUT CASTE!
.
India it seems has experienced an outbreak of rape and other forms of violence especially against its Dalit (once known as ‘untouchables’) community. Whilst the Caste system has blighted India for centuries this recent upsurge has coincided with the election of the Hindu nationalist party the BJP and there is concern that ‘upper-caste’ supporters of the party may be protected from prosecution.
.
Whilst we might think the problem is restricted to a country thousands of miles away, there is a worry that the discrimination of caste has been introduced and practiced in the UK by some in the Indian community. Recognising this the Government accepted that Caste should be treated as an aspect of racial discrimination and acknowledged it in the Equalities Act in 2010. However the Government held back from implementing this aspect of the legislation after coming under pressure from India and ‘high-caste’ Indians.

The UK is a very liberal civic society. The practice of Caste, like FGM, has no place within it and fear of upsetting cultural sensibilities or even foreign governments should not be allowed to prevent us doing what is right. Various anti-caste/Dalit organisations recently held a demonstration outside the Indian High Commission concerning the anti-Dalit violence and presented a statement to the UK Government calling for it to implement the anti-Caste discrimination within the Equalities Act. The National Liberal Party and Nations without States supported both initiatives.

Issue 2 Of Liberal Worker Is Out Today!
.
ISSUE 2 of LIBERAL WORKER is out today!  And there’s a noticeable difference between it and issue 1, which came out towards the end of last year.
.
Whilst issue 1 was slightly agitational in content and tone, issue 2 is more educational and reflective.  This is because the NLTU has recognised that – in the minds of many people – trade unionism is always equated with communism and/or socialism.
.
We know that some trade union leaders & members have been (and are still) either communists or socialists.  However, it’s vital to acknowledge the liberal tradition within trade unionism.  We cannot afford for this tendency to be lost to history.
.
EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMME
.
Therefore, the NLTU has decided that – from a strategic point of view – a long-term educational programme is needed.  This educational programme will be initially conducted via Liberal Worker.
.
The saying ‘context is everything’ is very well-known.  It notes the importance of understanding the circumstances and/or background in which something occurs.  These circumstances can completely change the meaning or interpretation of an action, statement, or idea.  In short, without proper context, information can easily be misunderstood or taken out of proportion.
.
Thus, to promote our vision of a non-socialist trade unionism, we need to provide much needed vital context.
.
OPPOSITION TO CAPITALISM
.
It’s important to stress that our liberal form of trade unionism is completely opposed to capitalism.  However, the NLTU has absolutely no intention of replacing capitalism with communism or socialism.
.
As issue 2 of Liberal Worker notes, the economic ideas that we’re interested in ‘all stand in opposition to capitalism – where property & assets are in the hands of a few – and socialism and communism – where property & assets are in the hands of the state (and party bosses).’
.
Our long-term educational programme will therefore look at various alternative and sometimes non-conformist economic ideas.  These will include the co-operative movement, distributism, guild socialism (sometimes called Christian socialism), social credit, sovereign money and syndicalism.
.
NLTU PROGRAMME
.
Another phase of the NLTU programme will look at some of those people who advocated the above ideas (such as Hilaire Belloc, G. K. Chesterton, G. D. H. Cole, Major C.H. Douglas, John Hargrave and Robert Owen).
.
Hopefully, this strategy will help to attract individual trade unionists who’ll support both the principles of liberty (the protection of all individual employees) and patriotism (the defence of workers from globalization).  In advancing these principles they’ll help promote a national liberal trade union agenda.
.
