NATIONAL COUNCIL STATEMENT: GLA/MAYORAL STATEMENT
.

PROTECT LONDON’S QUALITY OF LIFE

.
All the main prospective candidates running for Mayor are focusing on housing. Given that house values have rocketed over the last few years and priced out most first time buyers it is understandable. However, rather than address that issue, they just talk about building more and more. By and large such properties would not be much cheaper to buy or rent because, under present policies, if Corporations keep buying and not renting properties and demand keeps on growing, due to a projected mushrooming of population (largely through immigration), we shall see prices keep rising for many years to come.
.
PROTECT OUR GREEN SPACES
.
The problem of simply building more properties rather than better population control in London, including ensuring jobs and housing is available outside the Capital to accommodate people, is a recipe for disaster. Valuable Green spaces are being built upon, sufficient parking spaces are being ignored by the Mayor, and services are under strain as no-one really wants to pay for the necessary infrastructure.
.
Rather, we need a Mayor who will focus on protecting our existing Quality of Life instead of letting it all slide away in a fit of mass house building.
.
Furthermore, the two candidates representing the Labour and Conservative parties are career politicians. Who will represent the ordinary Londoner?
.
In the course of promoting our prospective Mayoral candidate, Upkar Singh Rai, we found that only one other candidate stood out as an non-establishment/anti-elitist figure, Mr Kane Khan of the newly formed Friends Party.
.

KANE KHAN 4 MAYOR!

Kane Khan

Euro-sceptic and opposed to career politicians, Kane Khan is appealing to the Capital’s voters to back the ‘outsider’. He will be adopting our slogan of ‘Protecting the Quality of Life of Londoners’. The NLP has therefore decided to withdraw our Mayoral candidate in support of Kane Khan. We shall throw our weight behind his campaign to be elected Mayor of London and report on his policies and activities in due course.

.
The NLP will however be standing Upkar Singh Rai for the GLA constituency of Ealing & Hillingdon. We are presently leafleting the area. We need your help to raise the funds to stand, print flyers and place adverts. Can you help?
.
If you can leaflet please contact natliberal@aol.com.
.
If you can donate to Upkar’s campaign this can be made via http://nationalliberal.org/the-party-organisation/donate, transfer to the Bank of Scotland, NLP, 12-11-03, 06186181, cheques to the NLP mailed to the National Liberal Party, PO Box 4217, Hornchurch, Essex RM12 4PJ, or you by pledge (£100 plus) to the Sponsorship Fund by e-mailing natliberal@aol.com.
.

UPKAR SINGH RAI FOR THE GLA!

Upkar Singh Rai

Upkar will be the Quality of Life candidate for Ealing & Hillingdon. He is presently running a campaign In support of local shopkeepers and the self-employed in the area. He will be expanding his campaign to Clean & Secure the streets by providing public toilets, more cleaners, and better local policing and surveillance to counter anti-social behaviour.

Parties come together to campaign for a ‘positive’ leave vote
.
.
The Free Markets Free Nations group’s campaign is a collaboration of free market political parties and other organisations focused on highlighting the positives of ending the UK’s membership of the European Union. Whilst many groups are focused on many of the negative effects of being part of the EU, as proponents of the Free Market, our view is focused on the opportunities that would exist after a leave vote as well as a belief that the UK would be much better served by a return to the Free Trade agreements that made up the origins of the body that has become the European Union.
.
VOTE LEAVE!
.
The positive reasons for leaving the EU include, being free to create additional free trade areas such as a commonwealth free trade area or an Anglophone free trade area, having the freedom to remove VAT from products that are deemed essentials, and the ability to create environments where businesses are free to focus on serving customer needs rather than worrying about every more intrusive supranational legislation.
.
CONSENSUS
.
Initially, this is a collaboration of the Libertarian Party, National Liberal Party and the Friend’s Party. You can join the FB group just set up to debate and promote
https://www.facebook.com/freemarketsfreenations/ If any other groups wish to join please e-mail to natliberal@aol.com or FMFN@adamgbrown.com.

Sign The Petition – Defend The NHS!

Left: Junior doctors strike to save the NHS. Right: Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt wants to destroy the NHS.

DAVID CAMERON likes to pretend that the Tories have a social conscience. His propaganda line is that the Conservatives are compassionate – that they feel our pain and suffering. Sadly, some folks have swallowed this tale hook, line and sinker. Indeed, many repeat the Tory austerity lie that ‘there’s no money’ and that ‘we’re all in this together’.

However, the Tory ‘social conscience’ mask slips when it comes to the National Health Service. For some bizarre reason, they can’t stand the NHS. And as this report – http://www.mirror.co.uk/news/uk-news/

3-top-tories-call-for-nhs-413096 – which goes back to 2009 notes, they’ve wanted to do away with if for a long time now.

Although Cameron has a majority in Westminster he knows that he can’t just dump the NHS. That really would cause a stir! That’s why the Tories prefer to kill off the NHS one small bit at a time.

The job of dismantling the NHS has fallen to  Jeremy Richard Streynsham Hunt. Hunt – who was educated at Charterhouse public school and Oxford – is the Tory MP for South West Surrey.

Since late September 2012 he’s been Health Secretary. According to his web-site – https://www.conservatives.com/OurTeam/Members_of_Parliament/Hunt_Jeremy – this means that ‘he has overall responsibility for public health, the NHS and social care in England’.

The National Liberal Party would query Hunt’s definition of ‘responsibility’ towards the NHS.

Indeed, we believe that he is a key privatiser in the Tory party. His agenda would see the NHS re-structured along U.S. lines where only those with the funds to buy insurance would receive health care. This is the beginning of the ‘Hunger Games’ society of uncaring Tory promoted capitalism.

This is not just our view. Listen to this female junior doctor – https://www.facebook.com/LBC/videos/10153741907721558/?pnref=storywho notes that Hunt’s current attacks on junior doctors is part of a “wider political picture” and that people should “take into account the socio-political climate.”

With her warning about the current “socio-political climate” in mind, we’re asking all National Liberals to sign – and importantly to share – this petition created by Dr Christopher Erswell:

https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/121010

It notes that because the NHS is such an important institution in the UK, that before any further measures are legislated to privatise it, outsource it and introduce a for-profit, private insurance-based system, a referendum should be held on the question.

If 10,000 people sign it the government will respond to the petition. And if 100,000 people sign it will be considered for debate in Parliament

We’re also asking all National Liberals to help us expose Cameron and Hunt’s health agenda. We believe that the NHS is a vital public asset – it shouldn’t be for private profit. Indeed, only a Tory could think of making money out of the misery and suffering of ordinary folks.

* WE BELIVE that the Tory attack on the NHS goes way beyond their attack on junior doctors. However, please take two minutes out to watch this animation – https://www.facebook.com/dothejbox/videos/10101397847639533/?pnref=story which exposes government lies and explains why against the junior doctors have been forced into taking strike action.

Self-Determination For All!

THE DISCONNECT between professional politicians and the people has never been greater. The decisions taken by the former are more often viewed as self-serving in the eyes of the latter.

Professional politicians, often labelled as so-called ‘elites’, are largely divorced from the everyday experiences of the great mass of people.  Thus, we should not be surprised that they are often seen to take political positions and decisions at odds with most people.

The answer to this gulf between the present day ‘rulers’ and ‘ruled’ is found in the principle of Self-Determination; i.e. Putting decision making into the hands of the individual rather than ‘others’.

PRINCIPLE OF SELF-DETERMINATION

This principle can be applied largely in three areas; National, Political and Economic.

National Self-Determination seeks to ensure decisions affecting the collective future of a nation are taken by ALL the people via referendum.  This may be ‘External’, for example: the creation or maintenance of a nation-state, or ‘Internal’ framing/updating a constitution to reflect how a people should rule themselves.  (We favour independent nations and liberal, democratic, states).

Political Self-Determination seeks to ensure that the collective will of the people as well as the variety of political opinion is reflected in decision making.  Thus, for example, we favour greater use of referendums to meet the former, and PR to reflect the latter (we favour a system close to the Swiss model of Direct Democracy).

Economic Self-Determination seeks to distribute ownership as widely as possible and as close to the individual as practical by favouring home ownership, self-employment, small businesses, cooperatives and employee shareholdings.  (We believe that ownership is the key to economic and social health: where workers obtain a just reward for their labours and gain a feeling of well-being through their having a genuine personal stake in society).

The above principles underpin many National Liberal policies but others are rooted in common sense and usually aim to strike a balance between conflicting opinions, as befits a centrist party.

Issue 4 Of English Voice Is Now Available!
.
THE LATEST issue of English Voice – The Voice Of The National Liberal Party – has been produced.
.
Issue 4 reiterates the claims (made in the first three issues) that England is discriminated against.  This is because it’s the only nation in the UK that doesn’t have anything approaching Home Rule in the form of an assembly or parliament.
.
It also notes that issue 3 declared that the NLP would start following a twin track approach in respect of English self-determination.
This means both campaigning for an English parliament & also planning what form it should take.
.
The first (and probably the easiest) option would be to have a carbon copy of what Scotland, Ulster & Wales have.  The second option would be an English version of Westminster – with an upper & lower chamber.  The third option would be to have something radically different.
.
Whilst all options are on the table, English Voice notes that one thing is for sure:
.
‘We believe that any future English parliament should be based on – and established – via the following forms of direct democracy:
.
  • The introduction of a ‘None Of The Above’ (NOTA) option in respect of elections to the English parliament.
.
  •  The introduction of a system of popular rule. Here, major national decisions will be decided by referendums or preferendums.
.
  • The introduction of Proportional Representation (PR). This will mean the abolition of the undemocratic ‘First Past The Post’ method of voting.
.
  • The introduction of a system of Voter Recall. Here, voters will be able to remove any representatives who’re not up to the job.’
.
Future issues of English Voice intend to develop these ideas.
.
However, the next issue will be a special one and will be produced just prior to the EU referendum.  Like many people we’re thinking that this’ll be some time towards the middle of the year – with June appearing to be the favourite.

Building Kent Voice

THE NATIONAL LIBERAL PARTY is building the infrastructure of an alternative mass media of news, information and entertainment. To date, we’ve produced various different issues of Liberty & Nation, Caledonian Voice, English Voice, Cuffley, Courier, Kent Voice, the Isle of Wight Voice and St. Andrews Voice. And in the very near future, we hope to produce Harrow Voice and Ulster Voice.

The reason why we put so much effort into building our alternative media is because we believe that it’s unhealthy to have the mainstream media concentrated in the hands of so few. In any industry this means that a very small number of people become very powerful figures.

In respect of the British media, this small number of powerful people includes the likes of Like Rupert Murdoch, Lord Rothermere and Richard Desmond. All are part of the super-rich global elite.

This isn’t good for democracy or freedom of speech. No wonder many journalists – with mortgages and families to support – have to toe the editorial line. Therefore, it’s our intention to produce an alternative media that is fair and honest – and one which reflects the thinking of ordinary working families. This is why we produce publications like Kent Voice.

With this in mind, here we reproduce the main article from issue 1 of Kent Voice – KV – which was produced way back in February 2013. As far as we’re aware, there’s only been one review – http://nationalliberal.org/review-of-kent-voice-issue-1 – of this issue. Therefore, we’d like to hear from anyone who’d be willing to produce another review of it or who’d be able to produce articles for future articles. Indeed, we understand that issue 2 will be out fairly soon.

Last August KV produced its first e-poster, noting that mass immigration was a capitalist con-trick: http://nationalliberal.org/is-mass-immigration-a-capitalist-con-trick-kent-voice

If anyone can suggest subjects for future KV e-posters, simply e-mail natliberal@aol.com or look out for this article on the National Liberals facebook site https://www.facebook.com/groups/52739504313/?ref=br_tf and have your say in the comments section.

Oppose Animal Cruelty!

Issue 1 of Kent Voice is still available. To get hold of your FRR pdf copy, simply e-mail natliberal@aol.com today!

JOHN BOTTING – the National Liberal Party’s Kent Representative and National Coordinator of the National Liberal Supporters Club – has always been interested in animal welfare.

In the past he has opposed the practice of Beagles being forced to inhale cigarette smoke. This sick practice was exposed way back in 1975 by journalist Mary Beith of The People who worked undercover in an ICI animal-testing laboratory in Macclesfield, Cheshire.

Later he opposed the cosmetics company Revlon having their products tested on rabbits – using the notorious Draize test. This test involves putting a substance in the eye or on the skin of an immobilised rabbit (in this case) and then observing and recording the results. Animals are subsequently either reused or “euthanized” (killed!).

ANIMAL CRUELTY

John is still opposed to all forms of animal cruelty. Speaking exclusively to Kent Voice he said:

“To me there are four main types of animal cruelty – testing on animals, ritual slaughter, factory farming and the disgusting practice of exporting live animals.”

As we’ve already noted, John has long opposed testing on animals. On the subject of ritual slaughter, he supports the view of Marianne Thieme, head of the Dutch Animal Rights Party, who has noted:

“This way of killing causes unnecessary pain to animals. Religious freedom cannot be unlimited. For us religious freedom stops where human or animal suffering begins.”

In 2011 her party successfully proposed that livestock must be stunned before being slaughtered, contrary to the Muslim halal and Jewish kosher laws that require animals to be fully conscious. (However, in July of last year the Dutch upper house, the Senate, rejected a ban on ritual slaughter).

BATTERY FARMING

The NLP man also slated modern intensive farming methods – especially battery farming.

“This system tries to produce the most eggs as quickly and cheaply as possible and in the least amount of space. This barbaric system means that hens are caged for around a year before slaughter. They have no sunlight, fresh air and – in many cases – can’t even turn around.”

He also spoke about “the cruel and unnecessary trade” of exporting animals for slaughter. Here calves and sheep are transported for miles to the port of Ramsgate in Kent before being shipped to ports on the continent and farther destinations.

“I just don’t understand this. Like many people I’m a meat eater. However, I feel that the animals should be slaughtered as humanely as possible and as close to their farm of origin as possible. But there doesn’t seem to be any concern for the suffering of the animals here. They’re just abused for their monetary value.”

Kent Voice echoes John’s view and calls upon all of its readers to oppose all forms of animal cruelty!
