WITH CHRISTMAS just a few days away, the National Liberal Party is calling its members and supporters to undertake some local community action.

We want folks to print out just ten of our Christmas 2015 – Support Your Local Shops! leaflets and simply distribute them to their family, friends, workmates, neighbours and local shopkeepers.

Distributing just ten leaflets will take a matter of minutes – but it will alert many, many people to our campaign in support of local shops, small businesses and the self-employed.

Christmas 2015 – Support Your Local Shops!
.

.
YES it’s that time of year again – Christmas is coming! But in your haste to do the shopping, don’t forget the local shops and businesses in your area. Give them an early Christmas present by shopping locally today.

The National Liberal Party knows that times are hard and price considerations are obviously very important, but many small shops depend on their Christmas trade to see them through much of the following year. At present, many shopkeepers are still feeling the effects of the recession which was brought on by ‘casino capitalism’ – a mixture of greed and mistakes made by the politicians, bankers, ‘fat cats’ and speculators.

Shopkeepers are also hit hard by the rise high interest rates and the criminal bank debt-system. In addition to this they also have to compete with the growth of internet shopping, giant shopping centres and multiple chain stores.

The shopkeeper, as a self-employed businessman or woman, plays a vital role in the local economy. (And don’t forget that these small shops collectively employ hundreds of thousands of workers throughout the length and breadth of Britain). Local shops are not only important for the elderly and young mothers, but are part of the glue that helps to maintain community spirit – a place to bump into friends, neighbours and relatives.

If we don’t support our local shops and businesses today, we may loose them forever. Then people will have no other choice to travel directly into the nearest city or town centre for the smallest of items. This may be ok if you have your own transport and are fit and healthy. However, the elderly or young mothers wouldn’t really look forward to beating a path through the massive Saturday shopping crowds found in our large towns and cities.

The message is clear. For the community spirit to survive and prosper, we must give local shops as much trade as possible. The National Liberal Party says support your local shops, shopkeepers and shop workers. Shop locally this Christmas!

PROSPECTIVE MAYORAL CANDIDATE SAYS SHOP LOCAL THIS SATURDAY!

.

.

UPKAR SINGH RAI is asking all Londoners to shop local this Saturday!
.
Upkar is the National Liberal Party’s (NLP) prospective candidate for 2016 London Mayor. The NLP is the only political party in Britain for which self-determination is its raison d’etra. This includes economic self-determination.
.
Mr. Rai is standing on a Quality of Life ticket – and central to this campaign is his support for local shops, small businesses and the self-employed.
.
Saturday December 5 is Small Business Saturday, a national campaign based on an initiative to promote and support small and independent businesses in communities across the country by encouraging consumers to shop locally.
.
Mr. Rai is an IT Consultant and Uber driver working in the city and lives in Ilford, Essex (see fuller biography). He is also a well-known self-determinist, human rights activist and a member of the NLP’s ruling National Council.
.
He said:
.
“With the growth of internet shopping, giant shopping centres and multiple chain stores, a wide variety of independent shops and retailers across London make a positive contribution to the local economy of each borough.
.
“They not only provide a welcome range of choice, quality and good value, but also help give our shopping centres and parades their unique identities and character.
.
“What better way to start off Christmas shopping than Shop Local Saturday!”
.
The campaign is calling upon shoppers to get involved by tweeting pictures of what they’re doing on the day and pledging support.

Upkar Says … If You Live In If You Live In The London Boroughs of Lambeth, Lewisham, Merton and Newham … SHOP LOCAL!
.

.
THE NATIONAL LIBERAL PARTY has just produced the latest in its series of e-posters aimed at promoting local shopping in London. They represent just one part of our campaign to support Upkar Singh Rai, the NLPs prospective candidate for 2016 London Mayor.

Upkar is standing on a Quality of Life ticket – and central to this campaign is his support for local shops, small businesses and the self-employed.

Just imagine what it’d be like if all of our local shops went to the wall – wiped out by a combination of exorbitant local business rates, the growth of out-of-town superstores and the immoral banking system, whereby the banks create credit out of nothing and then charge interest on it!

If this happened we’d all end up as slaves to the multi-nationals!

With this in mind – and the fact that Christmas is just around the corner – we’d urge all members and supporters to carefully read the article that follows.  We’ll be repeating it again nearer Christmas, however, the NLP feels that it’s absolutely vital that we promote the concept of localism.  For localism supports the local production and consumption of goods and it puts the local economy, community and environment first!

YES – it’s that time of year again – Christmas is coming!

Liberal Future – Beyond Left & Right
.
LIBERAL FUTURE is the youth wing of the National Liberal Party. Our Facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/
groups/706779429376233/ – acts as a political forum for those under 30 who want to get their voice heard.  Here, liberal young adults discuss issues such as self determination and liberty.
.
One thing that Liberal Future (LF) is passionate about is letting other young adults know that it’s neither a ‘left’ nor ‘right’ wing organisation. Indeed, letting them know that there is another political way available to them.
.
Indeed, we don’t actually like – or particularly agree with – the terms ‘left’ and ‘right’ wing.  LF feels that these descriptions are very restrictive and completely out of date.  Yet elements of the media use them virtually on a daily basis.  It’s almost like they want young people to believe that there’s no alternative to the ‘left’ and ‘right’!
.
Liberal Future feels that it’s not very helpful – indeed, it’s very lazy journalism – to try to pigeon hole any particular group.  We’re very worried at the ability of elements of the media to give such an easy categorisation to various political groups.  And we’re even more worried that many people accept this categorisation at face value!
.
We feel that simply labelling an idea, person or group as ‘left’ or ‘right’ stifles political debate.  This is because people believe they know everything about the subject matter simply because of the way that it’s been labelled.  This is particularly so when the media gives an idea, person or group a negatively loaded label or description.
.
LF feels that these political labels of ‘left’ and ‘right’ are way too restrictive.  Indeed, they’re increasingly meaningless – especially when followers of Tony Blair are referred to as being on the ‘right wing’ of the Labour Party and socially conscious Conservatives as being on the ‘left wing’ of the Tory Party!
.
To further illustrate this point, LF offers this challenge – can anyone really tell the difference between Tony Blair and David Cameron?  (The only differences that spring to mind are that the ‘socialist’ Blair is possibly wealthier than Cameron and that he’s a better showman?)
.
With this in mind we feel that we must move beyond the pigeon holes elements of the media like to put us in.  That’s why LF transcends the traditional ‘left’ and ‘right’.  That’s why Liberal Future promotes an ideal that goes way beyond ‘left’ and ‘right’!

• WE LIVE in a world dominated by the millisecond media.  Therefore, the artwork that accompanies this article represents Liberal Future’s first e-poster – a ‘visual sound bite.’  We would like to hear your suggestions for further e-posters.  Should LF produce e-posters on current issues or should they be more idealistic in tone?  Let us know simply by leaving comments here https://www.facebook.com/groups/706779429376233/ as soon as you see this article posted up.
