English Voice 2 Coming Soon!

ISSUE 2 of English Voice – the voice of the National Liberal Party in England – should be out towards the end of the month.

This issue will describe the NLPs vision of England – one based on pride and a positive love for our people and nation.  We do not hate others.  Neither do we regard ourselves as superior to others.” This England will not “be involved in the internal affairs of other nations.” It isn’t interested in dominating others and has “no imperialist wishes or desires.”

From this it’s clear that EV2 puts clear blue water between our vision (of England and the English) and that of others who’re basically right-wing Tories. Our sense of England and the English is based on identity, culture, history and heritage – not the outcome of the 1966 World Cup Final!

It also calls for the establishment of an English parliament.  This means that England can be placed on a level footing with Scotland, Ulster and Wales (who all have national assemblies or local parliaments.)  EV2 feels that once England is liberated from Westminster’s absolute rule” it can start to tackle the very serious national, social and economic problems that it faces.

The ruling body of the National Liberal Party is the National Council composed of four members.

Glen Maney

A professional comedian, film maker and scriptwriter based in Scotland. A one-time Liberal Democrat member and activist he defected to the NLP over Nick Clegg’s treachery over student fees. He is the party’s National Secretary and lead member of its Policy Committee. He says he found his political home in the National Liberals who combined his liberal beliefs in individual liberty and social justice, with love of country

He says he is determined to help other disaffected and patriotic Liberals also find a safe haven in the party. He is particularly interested in the UK obtaining a referendum on EU membership, renewable energy and the minimum wage.

Jagdeesh Singh

A legal advisor, born in the UK, of Panjaabi-Sikh background and social-cultural upbringing. One of the founders of the Nations with States pressure group and Chairman of the 1984 Genocide Coalition. He has an idealistic and ethical approach to human life and world-affairs. He draws this principally from the inspiring, activistic Sikh philosophy and history coupled with wider global idealism and histories of struggle for justice. He has been involved in justice campaigns since the age of 13-years, in 1984 – the year when he was gripped by the horrifying genocide against the Sikh people in the Indian state. He believes in global good and justice, through local action. He has been directly involved in frontline activism on a range of justice issues, including Panjaab, honour killings, animal rights, environmental protection, welfare of nature, global self-determination of nations, empowerment of small, grassroots communities and nations and the dismantling of super-states and super-structures.

Graham Williamson

A PR consultant and legal advisor based in London. He co-authored a seminal booklet entitled ‘Progressive Nationalism’ before helping found the NLP. He is presently editor of the party’s ideological magazine New Horizon and Chairman of the pressure group Nations without States. He is a director of the human rights group ACT NOW: Stop human rights abuses in Sri Lanka and Chairman of a community campaigning body known as the Adamsgate Action Group in his local area. His main political interests are self-determination, liberal trade unionism and support for Swiss-style referendums and initiatives

Upkar Singh Rai

An IT Manager working in the City of London and for 30 years as human rights activist and now with the Sikh liberal campaigning group Kesri Lehar (Wave of Justice). Has served many times as an Executive trustee for one of the top five Sikh Gurdwaras in Britain “Singh Sabha London East”. National Liberal Debate 10 – How Do We Treat Women Equally? Have Your Say!

THE MANY problems faced by Britain – whether economic or social – are not going to be solved by screaming and shouting. Thus, the National Liberal Party is not interested in ‘hitting the headlines’ using the tired formula of macho–posturing and gesture politics. These problems will only be overcome by a combination of careful thought and action.

This means that we favour informed and reasoned debate. Here we concentrate on arguments, points of view and facts. We are not interested in personalities, prejudice or promoting self-interest.

The National Liberal Party seeks to build an organisation that encourages free speech and debate. To do this, we also attempt to take into consideration as many views as is possible in open debate. Thus, members and supporters are always encouraged to have their say.

We’re also interested in encouraging people to develop their debating skills. That’s why the NLP has introduced a new series of articles called Have Your Say! Whilst each subject will be announced on this web-site, they’ll be conducted in full on the National Liberals Facebook site, which can be found here: http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/groups/52739504313/?fref=ts

Before we start this debate we’d like to remind folks of our ground rules:

  • First of all, say what you think – but think what you say.

  • Secondly, just debate the issue(s) raised. There should be no personal attacks.

  • As previously noted, we’re simply not interested in personalities.

  • Please note that we may ask selected members and supporters to play ‘devil’s advocate’. Hopefully, this’ll help sharpen the debating skills of all involved!

  • Finally, it should be remembered that all of the views expressed in Have Your Say! are personal and should not be taken to be the official view of the NLP itself.

Our latest question relates to the position of women in society. Another International Women’s Day has come and gone – check this link out for further details: http://www.internationalwomensday.com/ – but are women any closer to really being treated as equals?

As National Liberals we realise that there are differences between the sexes, but we also long for a just society. For us, the latter part of the slogan For National Frredom and Social Justice is not just empty rhetoric. So how just do we achieve Social Justice for women? Is it fair to set ‘targets’ and percentages for female representation? Should we really rely on ‘positive’ discrimination? Let us know your views – simply check out the debate at Facebook/National Liberals today!

Check Out Facebook/National Liberals
EAGLE-EYED visitors to the National Liberal Party’s web-site will have noticed a new addition to its Home Page. Just under the masthead we have a bar that used to provide five different messages for a total of five seconds each before it scrolled on to the next message. Now we have added a very important sixth message.

This new message includes a link to the National Liberal facebook page – https://www.facebook.com/groups/52739504313/ – with the words For all the latest local, national and international news stories and debates, check out National Liberals on Facebook.

The reason for this is that Facebook is the medium almost exclusively used by National Liberal Party members and supporters to post up ordinary news items – and to comment on them. It’s also used to host many debates.

Our article Vote Social Media!http://nationalliberal.org/vote-social-mediaof 26/02/2014 noted the importance of Facebook (one of the most well-known forms of Social Media) when it noted that When Barack Obama became American President in 2008 it was said that he was the first politician to use Social Media to achieve major success in a political campaign” and that “Social Media has also revolutionised the face of the marketing industry. Facebook and Twitter have become the number one marketing tool for companies worldwide, and it’s free to use!”

Given the importance of Facebook, we’d encourage all of our readers to check out the following:

UNITY IN DIVERSITY!

Vote ‘Self-determination for all!’

NLP candidates for the London Region of the European elections met last weekend to make their final preparations before launching their election campaign.
The slogan will be ‘Self-determination for all!’ to reflect their belief that, despite its international recognition, is resisted by all countries and establishment politicians. This might be a reluctance to offer referendums on EU membership, for the right of ‘nations without states’ to choose independence or autonomy, and even the poor old English to have a Parliament (like every other nation in the UK)!
All eight candidates therefore represent different national communities, all of whom seek self-determination. A draft manifesto was discussed as well as the contents of the election leaflet to be delivered across London.
The party list will be novel in a number of ways. It will be the first time that Diaspora’s from self-determinist communities have worked together in such a systematic and significant way, that members of the UK’s ethnic minorities are mobilising their communities electorally and that the principle itself is put to a vote.
If in London, why not help their campaign (e-mail natliberal@aol.com)? Don’t just observe history help make it!
