NLP Statement concerning a new People’s Alliance

The following is a statement released by the NLP National Executive:

PEOPLES ALLIANCE (UK)

We have been approached by a number of groups who wish to co-operate in a campaigning and electoral ‘Alliance’.

We believe that no small party can ‘take power’ against an entrenched establishment with money to burn. We don’t even believe that one party can appeal to all sections of society. We do believe however that if groups co-operate in favour of matters of mutual concern e.g. electoral reform, referenda, free speech, national Independence etc then we all benefit.

Ultimately we believe only an ‘Alliance of the Good’ can get down to the business of influencing/changing our lives for the better. We have stated as (national) Liberals our support for co-operative bodies and electoral coalitions on a number of occasions.

We have therefore supported the formation of a Steering Committee of the PEOPLES ALLIANCE (UK) (based on the successful localised group formed in Havering). Details will be announced in the near future but It will be publicly launched with a campaigning leaflet endorsed by the PA.

Tamils face: A choice of two warmongers

headerBackground

Sri Lankans went to the polls on Tuesday to vote at the end of a hard-fought election campaign to decide whether President Mahinda Rajapaksa or his former army chief General Sarath Fonseka should lead the nation.

Both men led the bloody war that last year ended in defeat for Tamil Tiger Nationalists fighting for independence in the north of the Sri Lankan State.

Mr Rajapaksa has now turned on his own commander, accusing Gen Fonseka of wanting to lead the country into a “military dictatorship.”

Though there have been no reliable polls, both candidates appear to command strong Sinhalese followings and the votes of Tamils may, ironically, prove decisive.

This weekend the 30th and 31st January there is a referendum organised by the Tamil National Council being held for the Tamil Diaspora in the U.K. Similar votes have already taken place in France, Norway, Switzerland, Holland, Germany and Canada

The referendum is based on the Vaddukoddail Resolution of 1976 which mandated Tamil politicians to seek independence from Sri Lanka. The question on the ballot paper is:

“The Tamil speaking people have confirmed that the Tamils in Sri Lanka have the right to self governance based on the Vaddukoddai Resolution 1976. This fundamental and essential right includes the right to the independent sovereignty of Eelam; a democratic state, fully embracing the principles of liberalism, equality, and a capitalistic mixed economy, while actively engaging in the global community.”

All Tamils and spouses or descendants who were born in Sri Lanka (with ID) are being asked to cast a yes or no vote. There are about 50 polling stations around the U.K. Stations inside London will be voting on the Saturday from between 9.00 am to 8 pm and Sunday 10 am – 6 pm. Those outside London will only be voting on Saturday. Please check out the sites by visiting http://www.vkr1976.org.uk/pollstations.html.

Magna Carta Moneybomb June 15

Magna Carta moneybomb

Most of us take our liberties for granted. We count ourselves blessed to be born in a country that, however imperfect, has a universal franchise to elect most legislatures, practices Habeas Corpus, grants trial by jury, says someone is innocent until proven guilty and lauds free speech.

Today however these rights are under threat from a BIG BROTHER state (and by external agencies such as the European Union) that want to control our lives.

In the UK the State is attacking our fundamental freedoms by:-

  • Trying to force everyone to carry an ID CARD.
  • Littering our Cities, towns and villages with surveillance, including speed, cameras to raise money whilst spying on us.
  • Gathering personal information including DNA on all citizens.
  • Monitoring personal communications.
  • Increasing  the use of  detention without trial.
  • Signing up to EU laws allowing foreign agencies access to personal information.
  • Institutionalising Political Correctness that has frightened many citizens from voicing their opinion on a whole host of subjects.

In the 13th Century England the monarchy was the enemy of freedom and liberty. In 1215 on June 15th, King John was forced to sign the MAGNA CARTA which set out the limits of the King’s powers and forced him to accept that his subjects had rights.

MASS DONATION FOR LIBERTY ON JUNE 15TH!
It’s time we had a new Magna Carta to protect our rights! Once upon a time an ‘Englishman’s home was his castle’. Today it seems his door is wide open!
Help us fight back by donating to liberty on Magna Carta Day on JUNE 15TH. We have produced a Liberty Video explaining how the liberties we take for granted are under attack. Please get as many people as possible to see the video.
Help the National Liberal Party to campaign against a ‘Big-Brother’ state by exposing its growth and making LIBERTY an issue at future elections. Make this the largest mass donation for a political cause in the UK. Let’s make history!

Good result for National Liberals in local poll 24/08/2007

The results of the Squirrels Heath ward by-election August 23rd were as follows:

National Liberal Party 170 (6.4%)

Labour 210 (7.9%)

UKIP 134 (5.1%)

Havering Residents Ass. 310 (11.7%)

Conservative 1828 (68.9%)

Once again the NLP defeated UKIP (as in the St. Andrews by-election). Given that UKIP are stronger in Tory areas this was a worrying result for that Party The overall result was as expected being a Tory stronghold coupled with their very professional populist campaign.

Postal votes accounted for over 800 votes and very few were for the NLP (such votes are organised by Party machines and are often cast before a campaign can influence or convert). We estimate that over 8% of votes cast on the day were for the NLP.

Some valuable lessons were learned not least the need to canvass (even if just among known supporters), to obtain postal votes and to run a harder campaign in the last week (UKIP, RA’s and the Conservatives all put out a leaflet on the eve of the poll). Obviously resources are an issue but as we build this should fall into place. There is a long way to go but the NLP’s is showing that a Liberal Nationalism is attractive amongst sections of the electorate.

National Liberals Poised to make advances 21/08/2007

The National Liberal Party (NLP) campaign in the Squirrels Heath by-election received a boost from calls from ex-Liberal Democrat voters offering their support for the NLP candidate Greg Campbell.

After wining support from locals concerned about the loss of Hare Lodge in Gidea Park and residents of Westmorland Avenue fearful of another out of character development, the defection of LD voters to the NLP bodes well for the vote on August 23rd.

Election Agent David Durant said “It is becoming clear that in Havering the NLP are beginning to be seen as the natural alternative in traditional Conservative seats. It is not an accident that the Conservatives have been copying some of our policies locally as they fear losing votes. We are very pleased with the liberal voters who having been denied a voice for years. They are rallying behind us and as one stated recently the NLP represents Liberalism as it should be!”.

Flying the Flag for liberalism (the patriotic version)17/08/2007

The new National Liberal Party (NLP), has been busily campaigning on the stump in the Squirrels Heath (Havering BC) By-Election. Fighting only its second election, polling day is August 23rd.

The main platform of the NLP has been opposition to over-development. The candidate is the leader of a local Action Group that successfully halted the loss of a fine period building to flats. Crime has also featured in the campaign as local residents list it high on their concerns. A number of leaflets have been distributed and supporters canvassed. Although voters have never had the opportunity to vote NLP before the candidate did stand as an Independent in 2006 so the Party hopes to build on that.

Apart from the Conservatives there are Labour, RA’s and UKIP candidates. All of the latter three have put in poor, lacklustre campaigns so far.

The seat is solidly Tory – they obtained two-thirds of the vote in 2006. It falls within the Romford Constituency whose MP is a hard working right-wing populist. This has been reflected in a strong campaign including canvassing and three leaflets so far. Some of the leaflets have been customised to reflect different local areas (Havering seats are quite large and often contain more than one ‘community’). However there is a whiff of plagiarism about them considering crime has become one of their main issues sometime after an NLP ‘survey’. Even our candidates opposition to a particular over-development is now being supported (despite the plans being backed by one Tory councillors). Anything for votes I suppose!

To cap it all one of their main leaflets tries to convince the voter that their main opponent in the election is Labour i.e. scare the Conservative voter into voting (who said those tactics were abandoned under Cameron?). They even produce an opinion poll which suggests that Labour are only 12% behind them on 37% even though they only got 12% last time! Despite the fact that all the figures add up to 102% (even the Albanians only claimed 100%!) The NLP are apparantly running at 0%! We shall see whose figures are more accurate on polling day!
