AN ENGLISH PARLIAMENT ‘IS A NECESSITY’
.
The NLP believes that, following Westminster’s promise to devolve more powers to the Scottish Parliament (Holyrood), now is the time to move the country into a Devo-Max aka Federal UK.
.
Whilst more power will require transferring to national Parliaments so that, ideally, Westminster will be trimmed down in size to handle its area of responsibility i.e. Defence, Foreign Affairs, Foreign Affairs, and Finance, the missing link is England. Establishment politicians have promoted the idea that devolution for England would be via councils rather than an English Parliament.
.
Many disagree. Party member and councillor Graham Williamson also had a letter published in the Local Government Association’s magazine explaining why this is a mistake http://www.local.gov.uk/web/guest/first-letters/-/journal_content/56/10180/6839611/NEWS. Whilst we support greater decentralisation to councils (after PM Thatcher first began the process of taking powers away) throughout the whole of the UK, under the principle of Subsidiarity (responsibility being exercised at the most practical lowest level), an English Parliament is a necessity.

Another Economy Is Possible!

One man makes it very clear what he would do to Bankers. The National Liberal Party believes that the whole banking system has to change.

THE NATIONAL LIBERAL PARTY would like to see a stable, sustainable yet properous economy. We’d like to see our people in apprenticeships or full employment – and not schemes designed to rig the unemployment figures. There should also be a living wage for everyone.

We’d also like to see affordable and decent housing for all. The National Health Service should be regarded as a system of healthcare accesable to everyone – regardless of their economic circumstances. The NHS should be a public service and not for private profit.

In addition, there should be generous provision for disability, maternity leave and retirement. We also believe in free access to public education at all levels – from nursery school to university. Those with special educational needs should also be well catered for.

All of this is great in theory but how will we achieve it? It will require money – and lots of it. However, according to all of the establishment parties and politicians, there’s no money.

Or is there?

Let’s be honest about it, how many members of the establishment parties (or even individual politicians) know how money is created? Indeed, do any of them even care? How many of them have spoken out against the current criminal banking system? They all seem reasonably happy enough to continue surrendering sovereign powers and let the private banks to conjure money out of nothing and then charge interest on it.

However, to ensure real prosperity we need a system that benefits people – as opposed to one that robs them blind. Thus we need a system of Monetary Reform whereby publicly-created, debt-free money is the norm as distinct from privately-created, debt-based money.

An in-depth description of how money is created – and what changes are needed – can be found on the thought-provoking blog My Manifesto – Because Politics Isn’t Working.

For in an article Beyond left and right: Real money is vital for our freedom and prosperity the blog notes:

“We need to get beyond issues of left and right, capitalism versus socialism, in order to acknowledge that at the heart of our malaise is actually the nature of money itself.

Namely, who creates our money and who controls it.

Modern-day banks have been given licence to loan money into existence, without needing a saver with a corresponding deposit on the other side of the ledger. Contrary to popular belief – and the myth that is perpetuated in classrooms across the land – in order to lend £100, banks no longer need someone else to save £100 with them. They simply create the money by typing the numbers into a computer.

This is not only morally outrageous, it has proven to be economically disastrous, causing bubbles in stocks and housing along with huge misallocations of capital away from productive industry and towards non-productive investment in things that already exist, such as houses, from which a rent can be extracted.

For the good of our economy, this legalised form of money forgery has to stop. What is referred to as fractional reserve banking – where a bank lends out more money than it really has – must be brought to an end and full reserve banking must become the norm.

As banks have been allowed to lend at will, governments have been allowed to borrow at will. Again, they are borrowing money that did not exist until it was created out of thin air as a burdensome liability to the taxpayers of future generations.

This is an indirect tax on today’s savers, robbing them of the value of the money they have earned through work in the past and saved to enjoy later on. The interest that is charged to taxpayers on this fraudulently created currency is also a direct tax on the future earnings of workers, and can only serve as a drag on our nation’s economic vibrancy and prosperity until the debt is either repaid or written off.

So the government’s creation of money as debt also must stop, preferably before our currency collapses as the world wakes up to the fact that what we owe as a nation we are unable to repay.

The cure for this abuse of money by banks and governments is to directly link the value of our currency to something that cannot be printed, or created at the touch of a computer button without so much as a bead of sweat falling from a worker’s brow.

Linking the value of our currency to gold and silver, for example, which are limited in supply and have intrinsic value – unlike a piece of paper masquerading as money – would rest power over the creation and control of money from those who have shown themselves to be least capable of exercising it responsibly. Bankers and politicians.

The fact that such reform would negatively affect the power of those two groups of people is, one suspects, exactly why it has not happened. Although as sure as night follows day, reform will be forced upon them both.”

The message is clear then. Another economy is possible. However, in order to provide decent jobs, housing and schools, we first need to take on – and completely reform – the existing banking system.

Issue 156 of Fourth World Review On Its Way!
.
THE JOINT EDITORS of Fourth World Review – Wayne John Sturgeon and Graham Williamson – hope to produce issue 156 in the very near future.

Fourth World Review4WR – has been in production for over 50 years and John Papworth (4WRs founder, former Editor and now Editorial Board member) has dedicated his life to fighting ‘gigantism’ everywhere!  The magazine still remains true to his ideals – and promotes a worldview that values the individual amongst the mass, the ‘little man’ against the big machines, and the small business against Corporate greed.

Indeed, John Papworth has stated that 4WRs purpose is to promote the “argument first put forward by Professor Leopold Kohr over half a century ago in his epochal Breakdown of Nations, later popularised in Fritz Schumacher’s Small Is Beautiful. They were simply arguing that the origins of the modern crisis lay in the fact that governments and institutions (including industries), had become so large as to be uncontrollable under any political label, and that the genuine democratic target lay in making them smaller so people could control them”.

This aim is reflected in the magazine’s long-standing slogan: ‘For Small Nations, Small Communities, Small Farms, Small Industries, Small Banks, Small Fisheries and the Inalienable Sovereignty of the Human Spirit.’

Issue 156 will contain another article on Nations without States, interviews, reviews and a look at the life of economic and monetary reformer James Gibb Stuart who sadly died late late last year.  Mr Gibb Stuart is probably best known for his book, The Money Bomb.

Open Up Your Eyes … And Say NO To The Transatlantic Trade & Investment Partnership!
.
.
THE NATIONAL LIBERAL PARTY has just issued its latest Open Your Eyes e-poster.  This ad-hoc series of e-posters has been on the go since the start of last year and are normally self explanatory.  For instance, we’ve produced posters in support of press freedom opposing the privatisation of the Post Office and so on.

This latest e-poster is different as it concerns the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership – TTIP.  But why is it so different?  The main reason is its subject matter.  Let’s be honest, how many readers have even heard of the TTIP?  Another reason is the dangers posed by TTIP to the peoples and nations of Europe and the US.

However, frst things first.  The TTIP (also known as the Transatlantic Free Trade Area – TAFTA) is a proposed free trade agreement between the European Union (EU) and the United States of America.

Its supporters claim that it will stimulate economic growth leaving everyone better off.  However, the NLP is not so sure.  We believe that the only winner here will be capitalism.  In our view TTIP will only strengthen the powers of trans-national corporations, big business individuals and the banksters.

We feel that the introduction of TTIP will – in particular – see the final nail in the coffin of public services in this country.  We think that it’ll open up the doors for multinational corporations to take over the NHS as well as any remaining public services.  Indeed, the Tories (in particular) seem to view the likes of the NHS as a mere business commodity, where ‘unprofitable’ sections are done away with – whilst the rest is sold off to the highest bidder.  If this happens, ordinary working folks will be in danger of losing their hard earned rights and conditions.

We also suspect that TTIP will make it more difficult for sovereign governments to regulate markets for public benefit.  This will tip the balance of power (between the interests of the nation and people against that of capitalism) wholly in favour of unelected and undemocratic international corporations.

Instead of leaving eveyone better off, the capitalist system will find it even easier – and more profitable – to switch their resources and operations around the globe in order to avoid paying taxes. This’ll ensure that the distribution of weath – both in individual nations and across the globe – will become even more pronounced.  The gap between the obscenely rich elite and the rest of us will become even more visable.

You have been warned!

Introducing Yes England

A new pro-English organisation – Yes England – has added its voice to the call for an English Parliament. Yes England (YE) joins various diverse pressure groups and political parties such as the Campaign for an English Parliament, English Commonwealth and the National Liberal Party, in calling for self-determination for the English nation.

YE was formed in the wake of – and was seemingly inspired by – September’s Scottish Referendum. Here, Scots were asked if they wanted to become an independent nation. Yes England is slightly less ambitious! It just has one aim – the establishment of an English Parliament. Nevertheless this simple demand is likely to add to Westminster’s woes over the constitutional future of the UK.

Despite YE being just over a month old, it boasts an attractive web-site and Facebook page. The latter is particularly interesting in that it relies heavily on striking artwork to get its message across.

So what is YE? And how does it intend to promote the concept of English self-determination?

First of all, and according to its Facebook page, YE is “a grassroots campaign for an English Parliament. We have one aim and that is to achieve an English Parliament that will benefit all the people of England.

Yes England welcomes anyone supportive of an English Parliament and asks for everyone to respect other people’s views.”

With its sole aim of establishing an English Parliament and welcoming anyone who supports this idea, YE seems to have neatly side-stepped the traditional ‘left/right’ political divide. Indeed, it calls it supporters to “fight for an English Parliament and a better country for all based on Equality, Freedom and Justice.”

The method YE seems to have adopted to campaign for an English Parliamnt is to build “a mass movement of the people, one that welcomes all and fights for a single aim.” And the building blocks of this mass movement will national organisations sponsoring Yes England and individuals supporting YE via social media.

The National Liberal Party wishes YE well in its fight for self-determination. We too would like to see an English Parliament for the English people – in the same way that Scotland, Ulster and Wales have institutions to represent their respective peoples.

At the moment the English are subject to a democratic defecit in that they have no truly national representation. How long can Westminster justify the disenfranchisement of millions of English folk?

HANDS OFF DORIS!
Doris Jones is a member of the NLP’s National Executive. She was originally born in Sabah, North Borneo. Although she has lived in the UK for many years she is still concerned with, and campaigns under the banner of the Sabah Sarawak Union (SSU), for the rights of her compatriots in Sabah and next door Sarawak, presently under Malaysian (read Malayan) rule. Due in part to her and others call for Independence for those two countries, there has been an upsurge in Sabah and Sarawakan nationalism, often expressed in the flying of their national flag(s).

So concerned are the Malaysian authorities that they are now threatening to arrest activists under their notorious Sedition Act that originated in colonial times. The act criminalises speech with what is called a “seditious tendency”, for example that which would “bring into hatred or contempt or to excite disaffection against” the government.

In a modern democracy free speech is sacrosanct. Beyond inciting violence, orators can call for opposition to a government, its policies and even its right to govern parts of its territory. Alex Salmond and the SNP have never been arrested for calling for independence but it seems citizens within ‘Malaysia’ are. Below we reprint Doris’s response to the threat.

.

I was born in Sabah, North Borneo. I used to work for an Accountant and for an Australian Judge.

Life was and is more miserable in Borneo due to the Internal Security Act as orchestrated by the Federation of Malaysia Govt. In response I started to take a role as a moderator of SSKM- Sabah Sarawak Keluar Malaysia (‘Sabah Sarawak Leave Malaysia’) Facebook group for the purpose of running a campaign of awareness and education for the people of North Borneo.

After 3 years, I and my co-partner decided to register the group by the name of Sabah Sarawak Union (UK), under the United Kingdom’s Jurisdiction. Our campaign has grown in the last 4 years and more of our younger generations are rising up for our Nation. The senior citizens are only just beginning to stir and we hope more will too when they realise the truth about the status of North Borneo; hidden by Federal Govt of Malaysia for 51 years.

I, personally, do not agree with the Internal Security Act (Malaysia) and Seditious Act (Malaysia) which is a violation of Human Rights. I trust many of my Borneo Nation will agree with me.

In reaction to this campaign for awareness, against injustice and human rights violations, the Malaysian Government has decided to put my name onto the list of those falling under (committing an offence of) the Seditious Act. I am also disappointed that the High Commissioner of Police in Sabah has come out with a false statement that his team had tried to make contact to me for an investigation but had received no response? That was a lie. No ONE has contacted me in person or by any other means.

In this regard, I insist the Sabah Police High Commissioner, Datuk Jallaluddin or the representatives of the Malaysia Government e.g. the Malaysian Home Office Minister and Prime Minister, presents the alleged evidence and I will stand up in a United Kingdom court to challenge his and the Malaysia Government’s accusations. We should not be afraid of the truth and JUSTICE SHOULD NOT BE DENIED.

Doris Jones
