One of our principles is (Political) Self-Determination i.e. the right of a people to determine their own political future. This could involve electoral reform e.g. Proportional Representation that ensures legislators reflect the country’s political views and Recall (re-election) when representatives don’t!

Ultimately we believe that the people’s views must ultimately prevail over an elite and unrepresentative political class. The EU vote over two years ago highlighted just how at odds the majority of our Parliament is with the majority of the people.

Referendums

In Switzerland however they do not suffer from this disconnect due to their political system i.e. PR, a consensus National Council etc.*2 More importantly they are guaranteed a public vote (referendum) on Constitutional changes and on anything sufficient numbers of citizens want (Citizen Initiatives).

The National Liberal Party wants to see that introduced into the UK!
