NATIONAL LIBERALS SAY GIVE SCOTLAND A THIRD CHOICE!

As the Scottish Government ponders what questions and how many should be on the forthcoming ‘Independence’ Referendum, the National Liberal Party has launched a campaign to get a third option onto the ballot paper.
This option, popularly known as ‘Devo-Max’, would if voted for give Scotland full fiscal powers but stop short of outright Independence. The NLP believes that Devo-Max “is an important option that many people would prefer.” *
REFERENDUM NOT DEMOCRATIC UNLESS DEVO-MAX INCLUDED
Renfrew based Campaign Manager and Lib Dem defector, Glen Maney, says “This referendum would not be fully democratic unless it includes the option of voting for Devo-Max. Opinion polls show that a majority of voters presently oppose independence but would still like the Scottish Government to have more powers, especially financial. Devo-Max would be a popular option and the people must therefore be given the chance to vote either for independence, the union or Devo-Max.”
Activists are to distribute a new leaflet asking Scots to tell Scotland’s First Minister Alex Salmond via e-mail (alex.Salmond.msp@scottish.parliament.uk) and the Scottish Government via their website, that they want Devo-Max on the ballot paper!
BACK TO RECLAIM VOTERS
The National Liberal Party is hoping to reclaim the support its’ predecessor, the Liberal National Party once had. The party, a breakaway from the Liberals from the 1930’s over tariffs, had a number of MPs in the UK but was particularly strong in Scotland. Obtaining an average of 5% for the 20 years it was in existence it had MPs across Scotland from Edinburgh to Inverness to the Western Isles. They see themselves as a patriotic alternative to the Liberal Democrats.
The National Liberal Party will be producing more educational and outreach material concerning the Scottish Constitutional Referendum in due course. If members of the press would like to interview the Campaign Manager Glen Maney please contact him on 07545821414.

* The party explains why it supports Devo-Max as a constitutional choice at http://nationalliberal.org/?p=3645 and why it envisages Devo-Max for all nations of the UK at http://nationalliberal.org/?p=3340

National Liberal Press Statement: Liberal Democrat defector launches video celebrating Magna Carta Day!

Ex-Lib Dem man launches video in support of rival party

(National Liberal) in run up to MAGNA CARTA Day (June 15th)!

New National Secretary of the National Liberal Party, Glen Maney (professional comedian, actor and ex-Liberal Democrat activist), has launched a video (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Rro5tuax8k) explaining why our liberties are under threat, why our way of life is worth preserving and his support for a ‘Green’ future. He is asking viewers to join or donate to his new party.

Dubbed a Moneybomb (in homage to Ron Paul’s supporters in the USA) it will be launched on the 15th June – Magna Carta* Day, which is a symbolic day of liberty.

TAKING LIBERTIES…….

Glen Maney, an recent defector from the LDs because of their ‘sell-out’ on policy, believes there is an ever increasing encroachment upon our civil liberties and individual freedoms. The phrase an ‘Englishman’s home is his castle’ is more than just a quaint phrase. It reflects an historic view that a Government’s writ largely remained outside our ‘ramparts’ and did not extend to personal affairs. In reality this has broken down with increasing attempts to intrude into our ‘private lives’ or ‘private views’ (should they not conform to the PC of the day).

Technology, whilst a ‘liberating’ force for many, is also being used to monitor us all. CCTV, DNA, Tracking devices, and communication eavesdropping and monitoring, are just a sample of the developments that will make it increasingly easier for any future Government to turn 1984 into a reality. National Liberals would like to see the creation of a Civil Liberties Minister who would act as a watchdog on state and private activity

The National Liberal Party under the leadership of Glen Maney will continue to expose the steady encroachment of our individual freedoms, civil liberties and way of life. Whilst the main political topics of the day; the economy, immigration, Europe and education presently hold the attention of political parties and the media we believe that concern over loss of civil liberties will one day hold everyone’s attention.

* This is the first recorded document where a King, previously ruling under a ‘Divine Right’, accepted that his ‘subjects’ had rights, including the right not to be gaoled without trial.

People’s Alliance (UK) Press Release

CROSS YOUR FINGERS AND VOTE AV!

The members of the new political campaigning group – The People’s Alliance (UK) – are launching their first public campaign on the 14th December.

The campaign entitled ‘CROSS YOUR FINGERS’ is calling upon the British electorate to vote YES to the forthcoming referendum (May 2011) on introducing the Alternative Vote (AV) at future Parliamentary elections.

Both of the two founding political parties – The National Liberal Party & the United People’s Party – would have preferred a vote on introducing genuine electoral reform such as Proportional Representation (PR) where all shades of opinion are represented in the Chamber. They say however that if the NO vote against any change wins, those supporting the present system (including the First Past the Post) will say “You’ve had your referendum, the matter is now settled for the next 100 years!” .

They are therefore calling upon the public to ‘cross their fingers’ and vote YES and hope this will lead onto further reform including the introduction of a form of PR.

A leaflet (bespoke versions by both parties) entitled ‘HavE YOUR SAY’ is being released on the day and will be distributed up to the vote.

The launch date of the 14th December has been chosen to coincide with the 1918 General Election which was based on the Representation of the People’s Act of that year that extended the vote to the majority of men and for the first time included (some) women. A YES vote will also result in voting reform.

National Liberal Party (NLP) www.nationalliberal.org

The National Liberals are a (national) Liberal party in the UK that believes that the personal liberty of a nation’s citizens is paramount whilst accepting that this freedom is best preserved within the framework of a democratic nation state. A National Liberal therefore views democracy and patriotism as two sides of the same coin. They call this ‘National Liberalism’. It presently believes that personal liberties are under threat from a Big Brother state and Independence by interfering bureaucracies like the EU.

United Peoples Party (UPP) www.unitedpeoplesparty.org.uk

The United People’s Party is a political party in the UK that works to combine the ideals of nationalism with those of equality and tolerance, fighting for the freedoms of the individual and promoting national unity. This is a party for all the people of Britain, regardless of faith, colour, sexuality, disability or origin. Together, united under one banner, we will change this country for the better.

NLP Press Release: LIB DEMS SLATED FOR MAKING THE WRONG CHOICES!

The National Liberal Party has criticised the Liberal Democrats for selling out on Proportional Representation (PR) and supporting Government cuts in all the ‘wrong places’. In particular they suggest that they could have got PR from a Lib-Lab coalition (or the Conservatives at the death) and could have avoided many of the pending cuts if they hadn’t agreed with the Government’s ‘ring-fencing’ of the International Aid and, in particular, Military Expenditure budgets.
They accuse the infamous ’20’ (the number of LD Ministers) of selling out their principles for a share of the ‘status’ of power without actually being able to deliver very much.

NLP Press Release: Liberal Democrats out of touch

LIB DEM’S OUT OF TOUCH

…AGAIN!

The National Liberals (NLP) – a patriotic Liberal party – have criticised Lib Dem leader Nick Clegg’s proposed amnesty of illegal immigrants in the UK.
The policy came under scrutiny after being discussed in the the final ‘Leaders TV Debate’.  The Liberal Democrat policy would allow any English speaking illegal immigrant who could prove UK residency for 10 years would have the right to earn citizenship after a period of community service. It has been suggested this could ultimately result in 1.2 million new citizens*

The National Liberal (NLP) candidate in Eastleigh, Keith Low said “After the LD’s about-turn on an EU Constitutional referendum this latest policy to reward those who have sneaked into Britain with all the benefits the state bestows on its citizens is another slap in the face of the average Liberal supporter and a sign that they are still out of touch with voters .” **
He added “Most of us have voted Liberal/Lib Dem in the past for policies such as a smaller government, devolution and a protection of civil liberties but did not want or expect to support plans to surrender our national sovereignty or our citizenship to the highest bidder! There has always been two ‘liberals’ in this country – one which is comfortable with protecting our national identity and another which is embarrassed by it! Voters of Eastleigh are the first to be offered a choice of Liberal!”

The NLP are putting up Keith Low as a candidate in the UKs forthcoming General Election with the specific aim of removing the Liberal Democratic MP Chris Huhne. The latter helped prevent the UK having a referendum on the EU Constitution (Lisbon Treaty) despite promising one to voters. Keith Low’s campaign team has produced an election video*** to raise donations and an election address to all households in Eastleigh.

* Tory leader David Cameron claimed the “amnesty” could apply to 600,000 people who would also be able to bring a family member to Britain.
** A You Gov poll of more than 2,000 adults found that 54% were opposed (37% strongly) to the LD plan. Among Lib Dem supporters, 57% were opposed (36% strongly). The survey asked: “It has been suggested that migrants who have been living illegally in the UK for 10 years with a ‘clean record’ since they’ve been here should be granted full citizenship, subject to civic and language tests. Would you support or oppose this proposal?”

*** The short video (see http://www.nationalliberal.orgexplains why the NLP are standing against Chris Huhne. It also highlights the National Liberals of old who would be appalled by the Liberal Democrats policies on Europe. The accompanying music begins with ‘Ode to Joy’ – Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony and the EU’s ‘National’ (sic) anthem. Later this changes to David Garrick’s patriotic ‘Hearts of Oak’.

National Liberal Press Release: Punish Chris Huhne at the polls!
Keith Low in Eastleigh 20.4

Keith Low (right) campaigning in Eastleigh today with the NLP National Secretary (David Durant)

“PUNISH CHRIS HUHNE!”

Nominations closed today (20th April) in the Parliamentary seat of Eastleigh, Hampshire (and elsewhere). Apart from the usual suspects the National Liberal Party (NLP) is standing a candidate (Keith Low) with the express aim of unseating Chris Huhne!

Keith Low launched his campaign in Eastleigh Town Centre at the same time by greeting shoppers while supporters delivered thousands of leaflets in nearby streets explaining why the NLP were standing and in particular the betrayal of Liberal voters over Europe by Chris Huhne.

Keith Low said “Liberals, in contrast to Labour and Conservatives, like to portray their principles as honest. Chris Huhne amongst other Liberal Democrats (LD) betrayed that honesty by reneging on his party’s promise to support a referendum on the EU Constitution (Lisbon Treaty). We aim to punish Chris Huhne by helping unseat him as an MP.

He added “Unfortunately the LDs no longer value British Independence. It wasn’t always that way of course and there are many Liberals of old who would turn in their graves to see their party behave in this way. This campaign is just the first of many by the National Liberals to ‘reclaim Liberalism’ and bring it back to its patriotic roots!”

The NLP will be delivering an election address to every household in Eastleigh asking voters to turn their back on Chris Huhne by, at best, voting for Keith Low in protest or, at worst, by staying at home. Copies will be sent out to interested parties soon.

Notes for Editors

Keith Low lives in Essex and is a retired postal worker (61). He says he is upset with the Government actions that force postal workers to do extra deliveries for no extra pay, labelling it ‘modernisation’.

He is presently a carer but is also a volunteer charity worker for Dr Bernardo’s and campaigns on human rights issues, lately on behalf of Tamils in Sri Lanka. He is also a writer of music and an amateur musician but would like to turn professional.
