I came to the UK to escape the atrocities committed against my people, the Matabele, by Mugabe in Zimbabwe. Our independence was stolen by Britain in 1893. Unfortunately, they didn’t restore our rights when Zimbabwe was created with British help in 1980. .
There was a similar story all over Africa where departing Colonial powers simply handed over territory containing different people and nations to the largest. This has led to countless ‘civil wars’, massacres, and discrimination e.g. against Biafra, Ogaden, Azawad or Southern Cameroon.
